WIN10 OS Forum
WIN10 is the next OS release coming from MS. We are sure there are many questions regarding the use of FSX, P3D, FSX-SE, X-Plane and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it. You can also post questions if you are having problems with WIN10.

The Mad dog works fine in Win 10, but the fonts display looks like a default windows font. I did an uninstall and reinstall of the MD with the same results. I went to the fonts directory of FSX. I tried a manual install of the MD fonts, but I get the error that it's not a ttf font or valid win font. I forget the exact error. Obviously, this is incorrect since it worked in Win 8.1. Did any of you using the MD have the same problem? There has to be some trick to get those fonts to display. I can live with it if not. It's a small glitch. It's the only problem I've had with my FSX in Win 10. Richard

Hi all, MS just released a new Windows 10 Build 10525 insider preview with; ''Memory Manager ImprovementsIn Windows 10, we have added a new concept in the Memory Manager called a compression store, which is an in-memory collection of compressed pages. This means that when Memory Manager feels memory pressure, it will compress unused pages instead of writing them to disk. This reduces the amount of memory used per process, allowing Windows 10 to maintain more applications in physical memory at a time. This also helps provide better responsiveness across Windows 10. The compression store lives in the System process’s working set. Since the system process holds the store i…

So apparently I am one of the only people having massive problems with Windows 10 and FSX. I will give the long version of what all has been happening. I have a completely stable version of FSX Box running on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I get my upgrade to Windows 10, so to make sure everything is clean and clear. I wipe my entire computer and reinstall Windows 7 from scratch. I install and update everything with Windows and my hardware drivers. I upgrade to Windows 10, update all my drivers (including video drivers) and start installing all my programs, including FSX. When I go to run FSX, the screen is flashing black when it is loading, and then I have to g…

Hello, I had been using EFB on W8.1 without any problems. Yesterday I saw that W10 had gone RTM so I figured it was really stable now. I did some research about the behavior of P3D and addons on W10 and it seemed to be all good so I upgraded. My SSD had filled up so I decided to do a clean install of W10 (Reset this PC option on Windows). I reinstalled the addons that I had and they all work fine except EFB. When you first set up the Data Provider I ecnountered this: I figured it was nothing and continued with the setup of the Display Unit only to find this: This weird letter spacing again. I knew something was wrong but I hoped that it wouldn't inter…

Good evening, I'm running Windows 10 on my laptop, and seem to have a certain adware program that keeps redirecting me to random websites. I have malwarebytes, but unfortunately it cannot detect it as malware. However, whenever I enter into avsim, the adware wants to run the most, making my experience on avsim very very slow. Oddly though, performance runs fine on other sites like YouTube, Google (in general). What malwarebytes does say is that it blocked an outbound process from the website: tr553.com from the chrome.exe... The files from tr553 cannot be found anywhere on my computer and am stuck wondering how to remove it. I have followed countless instructional ar…

I would like to start this thread to share peoples experience with the Win10 RTM build released to market today. Specifically for those using FSX and Directx9. Some posts from the latest beta releases over the past 2-3 weeks suggest that launching FSX was now resulting in the preview screen being black, with some reporting that the black screen persisted even when "fly now" was clicked. The goal of this thread is to establish if upgrading to the RTM Win10 from Win7 SP1 is causing any issues for FSX/Dx9 users. I hope there are none!

I don't use fullscreen mode, so this doesn't really affect me, but for those of you who do, check this out: http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/355.60/355.60-win10-win8-win7-winvista-desktop-release-notes.pdf Go to page 23 of the PDF. It looks like Nvidia might be aware of problems with FSX running in fullscreen mode. It says:

Hi Folks, Just wanted to ask if any of you good folks have got NI to work in Win 10? I ask as I have just done a clean install of Win 10 clean install FSX SE, it works fine but I cannot get NI to work with it at all so can not set 1/2 synch. It did say it needed .NET 3.5 so I down loaded and it still did not work. I am using the latest Nvidia Driver for my 970....but I am now at a total loss! as to why it will not work. Tried re install DX9 from within the sim but that did not work either. All the card seems to read is the main Nvidia Control panel setting and that is it! and adaptive 1/2 gives me waves on the screen. Would love to use this again and w…

Greetings, Just found this out last night...thought it was a fluke. Tried to install new scenery into FS9, and received the following error: You do not have permission to install new files on this computer. Please have an administrator log on to complete the scenery installation. I have full Administrative rights, UAC turned off, and made another account that is Admin, and performed a full takeown in cmd.exe. Has anybody experienced this problem??? This is a bad thing, and I'm ready to go back to Windows 7 in a heartbeat...don't need the hastle from Microsoft. Dealt with them for too many years, and just to think everything was working so well. Good thing to find out now…

Well today I did the update. Love Win 10 but FSX would not load right. Slow loading time and then freezing before getting into a flight. I did the recommended Nvidia driver, delete shader folder and cfg tried different compatibility modes but no luck. Back to Win 7 and everthing loads fast and back to normal. Too bad I really wanted this work. I guess my next step would be to do a clean install of Win 10 and fsx and the many addons I have (Orbx trees and global ftx PNW and Northern Rockies, ASN, Opus, dx10 fixer, pmdg 737, 777, q400, precptitfx and fs2crew for the addons). Like I said I tried and will probably try again down the road if I read about someone …

Hey, So I upgraded to windows 10 and I usually get ~55FPS. I have a i7-4790K @4.6, GTX 970, as well as 16GB Ram. I start off around ~55FPS and then when I click on another program in my second monitor (I.e. efb, pfpx..) and then my frames drop to 17-19. Sometimes it recovers after a minute to 60, but usually it stays that low. My CPU is around 30% and GPU around 40% when this happens, so my system is not under full load. I've tried setting the application to high priority and real time, as well as set affinity to all cores however this makes 0 difference. Any ideas?

Not really pleased with Win10. I'm having performance problems in both dx9 and 10 after a clean install. FPS have decreased by 3-5 since, my other games that I have installed so far run at least as good as with Win7, if not better. Another issue is that I can no longer use sweetfx with dx10 because the checkbox in FSX will disappear when I install sfx. Anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong here??

Someone in the FSX facebook group brought up, what is to me, an interesting question. With the coming of Windows 10, what does that mean for us. Better compatibility than windows 8.1? He went on to say that he has the windows 10 technical preview and has FSX running on it. Also, for those of us who have Steam edition, will it run since SE is optimized for Windows 8.1? Thoughts?

I don't know why it won't run in Windows 10. It ran fine in Windows 7 with no problems. When I startup it takes a long time to get to the Free Flight and then when launching "Fly Now" it doesn't do anything. What am I doing wrong? Help.

Does anyone know early on if Windows 10 will have any conflicts with FS9. You know any issues that will make it not usable? They are going to offer it to those like me who are using Windows 7 and I certianly dont want to switch an then be without my FS9 and FS10. Thanks

I have spent two full days trying to protect the honestly meager time I have invested in a migration from a Windows 7 HD to a reliable Windows 10 system. I have fought a myriad of small and subjective issues in doing so, but despite the failings of Microsoft and Saitek, I navigated, with a handful of work arounds, to to a seemingly usable Win 10 and FSX system. My ability with Seagate (Acronis provided) Disc Wizard to clone a reliably boot-able reserve hard disk to fall back on to protect the countless hours I have invested in the installations and configurations pertaining to flight simulation has been crucial. It is paramount to my maintenance of my system. Period…

Hi All, Need some wise advice...I'm in the middle of a brand new build...it's been a very long, drawn out affair as my free time is extremely limited. I've got Win 8.1 running very nicely now (first and only OS installed), a few other apps, and that's it. I've just been tweaking the system and still installing everything into the case. I have a new copy of FSX that I haven't even installed yet; also Saitek X55, and expect to use PMDG products. Should I move to Win 10 first? Upgrade or fresh install? (can you do a fresh install if you're only upgrading?). I haven't seen any comments about a new install of FSX on a Win 10 machine and whether or not there are activa…
