WIN10 OS Forum

WIN10 is the next OS release coming from MS. We are sure there are many questions regarding the use of FSX, P3D, FSX-SE, X-Plane and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it. You can also post questions if you are having problems with WIN10.

Hi guys/gals I'm still on W7 64. Although I love it and swear by it I've heard good feedback on W10 64 - although none of it from a flightsim perspective. How many here have switched to W10, and if you have are there any incompatibilities with P3D/addons/hardware etc. thanks

I attempted to install Windows 10 on my computer. It took forever and would only work in safe mode. I was unable to convert back to Windows 7. I had to take my computer to a shop and they converted it back to Windows 7. I still don't know what the issue(s) was. Is theer compatibility issues with Windows 10 and Microsoft FSX-SE? Thanks, hocdaddy

I keep thinking about going to Windows 10 and have read various pros and cons. I respect the members of this forum and wonder what you think. The main reason is that my networked laptop has died and it's virtually impossible to get a Win 7 replacement. My main computer is Win 7-64 but the laptop is integrated with several add-ons running at the same time. To switch now or not?

I upgraded my OS to W10 from W7 Pro. Works fine but for one thing. From time to time (say by a weekly basis) I get a blue screen with the indication of the error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION I searched online but could not find a suitable fix for this problem. Does anyone has a suggestion on what can I do to get rid of this annoying situation? Thanks.

This is frustrating. It seems that you have no control like one did with previous OS's where you could control what you wanted to install. Most does not bother me, but when it wants to update my video drivers I get very upset. Anyone have a way to get updates without allowing the OS to update the video drivers? Thanks Bob

  8. Microsoft really really (REALLY) wants you to get windows 10 http://www.infoworld.com/article/3042155/microsoft-windows/windows-patch-kb-3139929-when-a-security-update-is-not-a-security-update.html

  9. I’ve just had a catastrophic graphics event that seemingly randomly causes a totally black screen (that sometimes switches to a weird pinkish) and the only way to get out of it is to hard reset the PC. As a result, I have totally uninstalled all FSX related software, purged and clean installed the latest NVIDIA driver and done a windows scan for missing or corrupt files. All to no avail, now even with just basic FSX installed flying the trike around Friday Harbour with the high settings for my machine, it still happens. SO… Maybe this is the push to go to Windows 10. A few questions: 1. Is it definitive that the RealityXP GNS430 will not work in FSX-BOXED in WIN10? 2. If…

I've gotten everything I want to run in WIN10: FS9, FSBuild, FSUIPC, Active Sky Evolution, iFly 737NG, USA Roads and SunSky PHL. The only thing i have not gotten to work is panning with the mouse in the virtual cockpit. It does not work in default FS9 nor with AC2004 (registered successfully). Any thoughts or ideas on how to get this to work? Thanks. Jim i7-4790 ASROCK Extreme6 Corsair Dominator 16GB EVGA GTX-960 4GB

Is there anything additional I have to install other than the DirectX End-User Runtime to get a Direct2D addon aircraft gauge working in Windows 10? I can confirm it's fully working in Win7, but it seems Win10 does not like D2D. Anyone facing / have faced a similar problem?

  12. So my new computer will be ready this week (i7-4790k, GTX 970, OS and FSX on SSDs) and I will be going with Windows 10. Prior to this I've been running FSX on a less than ideal laptop with Win 7 which I optimized as best as I could using just about every setup guide that could be found out there, including all the big ones. Unfortunately no such guides exist for optimizing Windows 10 for FSX. So what are some key points? I know some things remain the same, ie deactivating UAC, while others are quite different. For those of you with experience using Win 10 what are your best optimization and setup tips in order to maximize what I can get out of FSX, or just in gener…

  13. This is exactly why I did not want to upgrade to windows 10 from 7 pro. I just got tired of fighting MS sneak attacks sending updates hidden in other window software. I currently have a i7 4790 with 16 Gb of DDR 3 and a GTX 980. One 250 Gb ssd for the operating system and one 250 Gb ssd for FSX' No add-on programs. Only update has been to the newest Nvidia drivers. I had about one week of real nice flying since the Win 10 upgrade but the more I fly the more it crashes when changing airports, looking for aircraft details etc. I am not looking forward to removing/replacing either Widows 10 or FSX. I did not do a clean install of 10 only because I would loos…

Thanks for allowing me to join your ranks. I'm an old time user of FS and a former Air Force pilot. I started with FS 95, remember the square clouds? I've upgraded as the versions became available and finally settled on the 2004 version. It has been running perfect on XP on a six year old Dell. I bought FSX, Deluxe Edition, but the old Dell wasn't up to the task, poor graphics, so I continued to run 2004. Just got a new Dell computer three days ago. It came loaded with Windows 10. I installed FSX and that's when the problems started. The missions worked okay for a few minutes, maybe two or three then the screen would go black and I'd get a error message that said, "F…

Hi, Normally I am a believer of the saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" saying. However, I am constantly prompted to upgrade to Win 10 from my current Win 7 - 64bit system. What's more, now the message is that my system has been tested or evaluated and is ready for the upgrade. Should I make the move and will FSX run any better? Currently I am satisfactory with FSX performance but nothing spectacular, and would say my system is adequate for FSX with a medium grade system. Thanks. Tom

Today, I had 19 important and recommended updates. I have continuously hidden the updates that grooms W7 for W10 installation. It seems that even with every one being hidden in that session, Microsoft, is changing the KBxxxxxxxx update library number, to sneak it by. Now...there are two updates that will prepare your W7 for the W10 update. What I found I now need to do...is click on EACH update library number so as to see on the M.S. site what the update places/addresses on your system, if downloaded. Just a warning, that you now need to parse each update, before you allow it to download and install, unless you don't wish to keep your W7 integrity.

  20. Microsoft is stepping up its Windows 10 push by making the OS a 'recommended' -- though not required -- update for Windows 7 and 8.1 users, beginning February 1. Keep your eyes open and make sure you don't get switched over by accident! http://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-starts-pushing-windows-10-as-a-recommended-update/

Hello everyone. It seems that Microsoft is moving in lock, stock, and barrel with this whole windows 10 thing. I have dodged many bullets by hiding certain updates, to make sure I don't get it. I heard somewhere that the compatibility with windows 10 isn't as magical as with windows 7. SO I would like to know, if any of you P3D users are using windows 10, and if so, how is it different when simming on windows 7. Are all of your add-ons supported? Did you have any problems with the licenses you purchased? How was the transition? Will appreciate every little detail. Thank you all.

  22. Hey guys I woke up this morning to see my Windows 10 updated. I was greeted by "hello, we have updated your pc". And after the blue loading screen went away, I found microsoft edge my default PDF opener, CCleaner missing, and FSX giving me a message that registration failed! Can anyone help me?

  23. I just answered a topic by a member who awoke this morning to find that his PC was automatically upgraded to Windows 10 during the night. Not what he wanted and some things are now broken. Earlier in the week Microsoft changed the status of the Windows 10 upgrade to "Recommended". And almost every machine which has Windows Update set to automatic gets both the Important and the Recommended updates. I gotta say this one more time - IF YOU DON'T WANT YOUR MACHINE TO BE UPGRADED TO WINDOWS 10 YOU HAVE TO TURN OFF THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE OF ALL "RECOMMENDED" ITEMS. End of warning/speech/rant..... 24. I will be soon switching to Windows 10. Should I download and install the latest NVIDIA drivers that are compatible with WIN 10 before upgrading to Win 10 on my Windows 7 computer, or do that after the upgrade had taken place? I am way back on driver 311.06. Anyone have a recommendation about which Win 10 driver version to install from NVIDIA? What about the Windows 10 Saitek Pro drivers for my Pro Flight Yoke, throttle quadrants, and rudder pedals.Install first before upgrading or wait until after the upgrade is complete? Thanks Greg

Is this "tweak" still relevant in FSX-MS with all recent advancements in both hardware and software (DX10 Fixer, Win10)?
