WIN10 OS Forum
WIN10 is the next OS release coming from MS. We are sure there are many questions regarding the use of FSX, P3D, FSX-SE, X-Plane and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it. You can also post questions if you are having problems with WIN10.

Question for the technical savvy... I am considering doing a clean install of Windows 10 to upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit and was wondering if I will lose my FSX/FS9 installations that I have on a secondary hard drive? In other words, I have flight sim installed on my D: drive while my system boots from the C: drive. Thanks.

Built a new Flight Simulator over the weekend, dedicated, with Windows 10. Installed my FSX-SE, P3dv3 and Xplane all, then started trying to add all my Saitek Units to the system-.....tried. None of them would install correctly, and even though some of them would get "recognized" occasionally, most of them would not. I tried using USB 2.0 ports, 3.0 ports, straight to the motherboard, through a USB hub (always powered), still nothing. I have NO freakin idea what to do anymore, but I'm more than frustrated, and losing time on my flying plans. Can ANYONE offer any solution(s)? I'm tired of just "trying" stuff, I need for these things to work. I have the Saitek …

I’ve been trying to setup a dual boot system with Windows7 & Windows10, with separate SSDs, but having a problem… Win7 was already installed to SSD. I then installed Win10 via UEFI USB drive to another SSD. I expected to then be presented with the Win10 boot option menu, but the system will only boot into Win10, unless I disconnect that SSD. Is there a way to do this, or am I wasting my time?

I have been reading the forums and have only stumbled across a few topics having to do with Windows 10 Anniversary update. My computer downloaded the VERY LENGTHY Win 10 updates and installed which is what took like an eternity after it finally completed. And I have a fast rig that used to load complex software in just seconds, but thanks to this Anniversary update, not any more. Windows asked me to reboot just as before in prior Win 10 updates, but this update changed a ton of things in very big ways it seems. I read bad reviews about what MS did for this update and I read some good things, unfortunately I read the reviews after the update not knowing the update …

I am have a brand new system with Windows 10 installed by the PC manufacture. FSX was installed and I am having a lot of Microsoft Errors during flight which causes FSX to close. Please see the reports from AppCrashView and Windows viewer. Have tried moving the fsx.cfg file and restarting but it still gave the same error. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I can see that this issue has been widely discussed, but given that I am not at all tech savvy, I am hoping to get practical advice on my question. That is, whether FSX acceleration (boxed), can be relatively easily installed and set-up to run stably on Windows 10? I run a i5 2500k (overclocked), GTX 1060 (3 gb), 8 GB ram along with a large suite of Saitek controls and instruments -- all of which work well in Win 7. However, I am contemplating trying out Prepar3d v 3,4, which Lockheed "strongly recommends" operate on a Win 10, 64 bit platform. This differs from their recommendation for earlier generations, which they state operate satisfactorily on Win 7. If …

Have an Acer Aspire SW5-012 with 30 GB on board. Win 10 Home Ed. 32-bit. 1607 with latest updates as of yesterday. For almost two months now my C: drive fills up for no apparent reason. I can run CCleaner to rid the excess stuff and it usually makes the machine useable again but it quickly fills back up again. Normally I have 1.2 GB free but it has often gone as low as 28 MB!?!?! free space! Don't know if I've been hacked, bugged, flimflammed or what! Windows Defender can't find anything, nor Avira, and I'm at a loss. Any ideas? ps Even while typing this post it has gone from 1.02 GB down to 223 MB and locks things to the point where even the taskbar won't show all the …

I have 64 bit Win 10 Pro upgraded from Win 7 Pro. I have had no problems using my registered ver of Flight Sim X Gold Edition in Win 7 and after I upgraded to Win 10 at the end of July. With Win 10 Pro, I was able to delay the install of the Anniversary update for a while but it finally caught up with me a couple weeks ago. The update fried my boot record so the drive/registry I was using was useless for booting, But everything on the HD was still accessible. So the Geeks installed a new HD with Win 10 Anniversary update installed. I could now access my old HD but obviously Flight Sim would not start up. I tried reinstalling Flight Sim over the top of the existing as…

After changing to an iMac I created a Bootcamp partition into which I installed Windows 10 (64 bit) as the base for FSX. Having bought a Logitech mk220 keyboard I find that the "@" key is unresponsive. I'm unlikely to use it with FSX but I'll still need it to write email addresses when required. If this keyboard is not designed for Windows 10 is there a way around the problem? Help would be appreciated. Cliff

Hi All, I have a Saitek X52 setup and am running on Windows 10. About a month and a half ago, I had the BETA driver installed and all was working perfectly - no issues whatsoever. However, I was away from my PC for two weeks and in that time, something changed - the joystick and throttle light up but they don't function. I have uninstalled the drivers and software, cleaned up the registry to make sure there aren't any traces, have deleted the relevant folders (and the temp folders), unplugged the joystick, and have gone through the installation process again. When I run the driver installation however, and plug the controller in, it doesn't recognise th…

I hope this topic doesn't get bumped because it's a question about Windows. The point is that those of us who are significant users of FS9 are leery of adopting an OS that doesn't support our many addons. So please, this question is for FS9 users only. I am not asking for opinions about Windows 10 - but user experiences. Have any of you taken the plunge and updated to Windows 10 and if so, were there problems with FS9? Cheers Ian

I began having this issue and knew right away it was something that users were not going to be happy about. A quick search showed that the storm was already building. http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2447177/updategate-windows-10-is-resetting-default-apps-back-to-microsoft-stock https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/458821/an_app_default_was_reset_what_is_this_bs/

After installing Win 10 Anniversary edition my PC seized up and would only function in safe mode. Never mind, I thought, I have everything backed up. I'll do a Windows Reset. Even though a reset trashes your apps, I thought that's no problem. The reset worked fine. BUT.... Trying to reinstall FS-X, my DVD wouldn't work. Actually the PC didn't seem to see my drive... After some work with MS support I have got to the following position.... I know its not the drive - I put another (USB) drive on and couldn't install from that. I know it's not the FS-X DVD disk. I tried starting the install on another PC using the same DVD and the same (USB) drive and that…

Hi! In a few days I will graduate from the university and my windows license expires! I had windows 8.1 pro! Now I'm planning to purchase windows 10. But before that I had some questions! 1) Because I will change product key, must I uninstall my FSX before changing windows or only a format? 2) Is FSX compatible with windows 10, because I read many blogs on internet, some for good performance and some other for many problems and errors. Thank you in advance!!

I have never had a problem on this scale with Windows up until now. This only happens with X-Plane, no other game or sim and I have spent most of the past week trying to figure out just what is the cause of this issue. I have un-installed, reinstalled, updated, changed settings etc - but still to no avail. This is my last resort. What I get is random screen flashes, the primary colour is yellow and it happens for a split second every 5 minutes or so sometimes longer but it is noticeable. What I have noticed is that it only ever happens in the IXEG 737, I have contacted Laminar about this as well as the developer themselves, neither have come across this issue before. …

I have installed Windows 10 as an update over my Windows 7 installation. Everything is fine (Norton, Firefox, ...), but nvidia inspector (1.9.7.3) does not work anymore / the nvidia inspector window is completely empty and does not show any data P3D is starting normally, but is only showing a black screen and no menu navigation. Did someone experience the same problem? Any idea how to solve the problem? Arndt

Hi, I am having problems with my FSX box edition. Upon start, it takes forever to get to the main screen, where I click on any of the buttons, the sim just freezes and crashes. When I select fly now, it just goes to a black screen. A couple of times it has managed to get into the simulator, but has only 2 fps. This has only happened since upgrading to windows 10. Any ideas? Thanks DcoltGaming

Tip one. You probably have them, and don't even know it... What is that? Corrupted Protected System Files! Use this page info to repair the situation. Most people have some System DLL's corrupted from their upgrade from W7, or outright W10 clean installation. Use the information on this page, and follow the instructions, exactly...and see if you do. In my case...I was surprised to see the report at the end of the Window Command cycle, that I in fact DID have some corrupted Protected System Files that were indeed repaired by the files back-up cache that W10 keeps for this purpose. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833 ------------------…

I couldn't work out what was happening. After this "automatic" update yesterday P3D froze on the splash screen with no further activity - disc or cpu. I tried everything I could think of - rebootng, turning off Defender, running as admin (which I do anyway), re-installing v3.4 client, googling the problem - you name it, I tried it. Again and again. So in desperation I uninstalled the Windows update. Problem solved - for now. It's working as before. Has anyone else had this problem? Cheers Chris

Hi everyone, Long-term flight simmer here. Following a leave of absence I am back with a vengeance. I'm just wondering whether, whilst Windows 10 is clearly supported by P3D and there are folks using it, it is recommended from a performance point of view. To ask a more specific question; would I notice any difference in performance between Windows 8.1 and Windows 10? I'm just concerned that one doesn't have as much control over the environment in Windows 10 - i.e. automatic upgrades etc. and I wonder if this has a performance impact in general? But, then again, I notice that Rob A uses Windows 10.... Thanks! Ady

Not sure what is going on, but I updated to the anniversary update tonight. Noticed I had to re-import my Inspector profiles, set back up some other Nvidia control panel settings etc. As far as I can tell everything is working EXCEPT the refresh rate control. In the Inspector profile it's set to 1/2 refresh rate. In the sim it's anything but locked. Not sure what to do here.

In the last few days I noticed that my computer crashed when flying the B-737 ( I did not check yet if it happens with other, smaller aircrafts ) All goes well, then after about 15 minutes the computer stops... My O/S is Windows 10,64 bit I read that it is imperative to update the video driver to the newest version.I did that but the problem is still there. Can anybody suggest what else I should do ? Thank you HubertWErni
