I just finished reading a very good book titled: Refighting The Pacific War, An Alternative History of World War ll. Edited by Jim Bresnahan. Thanks to the military aircraft in FLIGHTand the history of Hawaii in general this book is very throught provoking in deed. So, for you military history buffs like me out there.................. A very interesting ( what if ) question and answer by more than thirty historians, authors, and veterans regarding what happend if events in the Pacific had unforded differenty during WW II. Starting with Pearl Harbor and detailing every island hopping campaign to the end of the war in the Pacific. Things could have been very very diff…

A friend of mine who happens to be a glider tug pilot for our airclub, who operated a taildragger (Auster) when I started flying gliders in 1980, and nowadays a Rallye Commodore or a Robin, asked me about FLIGHT, and I decided to show it to him... Of course, after a few minutes he was asking for bad weather situations, landing the Maule and the RV, and even the Stearman... Whow!!!! this is simply astounding he comented... Then I went ahead and showed him the MP/Prop inconsistencies, and that spin climb from 85000' to try and get from him some support for my small quarrel with FLIGHT during the last weeks... His: "C'mon guy, you're JOKING right?????" said it al…

  4. Ok now this may be a dumb question, however I have been wondering about this, especially since getting my new controllers installed and set up yesterday. In the standard.xml file, there are specific axis settings - the one I will focus on for this topic, the null zone. I presume the null zone to be like a dead zone, where there is a small dead zone say around the joystick x and y axis center. Currently, and I think this may have been default setting, my null zone for these in my standard.xml file is .100000. Also same for my rudder axis. Now this new hardware I setup, I also defined specific dead zones, in the hardware's drivers, along with non linear response …

I landed at the Very Long Baseline Array site on the side of Mauna Kea. I then ran all the way ( about 5 miles ) up the road to the Observatory Domes to have a look around. What detail with all the buildings, what a view of the surrounding area. But then I did not feel like hiking all the way down to the RV so I conjured up a Maule out of thin air and fly off into the sunset. A very short field takeoff and down hill to pick up flying speed. The list has been updated today. See the Sticky above. We would now like to get some idea of priorities. So we would like you to put your 'money' up for the suggestions you most would like to see. You each have 100 MicroBucks (MBs) to spend. You could spend it all on one suggestion or spend one MB on 100 suggestions. Choice is up to you. Reply to this thread with your 'payments' Just enter the Suggestion ID followed by the amount. For example: M001: 50 E005: 20 U001: 10 etc etc. Please make it add up to 100! We will post this vote on other forums also so if you are a member of several then please only vote once! (we can probably work out who you …

This is the first time I have ever used a flight sim. Also I am not a pilot. I think the game has done a great job of "training" how to fly but then it just throws you into ILS without much explanation on the gauges. I flew around for 30 minutes and was not able to find Maui in fog. Did I miss a step somewhere? Is there a basic explanation on the gauges? I have done several google searches but none are in a term for someone who has never used ILS.I sound like an idiot. HUGE fan of aviation and can ramble hours about airlines, just never flew one. So take it easy on me.

  9. Hey gang, I received my new TM Warthog setup this afternoon, so far most everything is very good. I was able to create a profile for Flight, similar to what I had in my Cougar previously, for the Warthog. I have a slider on my throttle, which shows as an axis - it is listed as a dxslider axes when viewing in the software. I would like to assign either mixture or prop rpm to this slider, but Flight does not seem to want to accept it. When I choose the axis for either the prop rpm or mixture in the controller options in Flight, then I move the slider fully both ways, nothing registers in that box for the corresponding axis. I have tested the slider in windows gam…

Hey gang, I have new controllers coming for my setup, I will be retiring my current setup consisting of the TM Cougar with Elite Rudder Pedals. They will be replaced with the newer TM Warthog setup , along with the Saitek Combat rudder pedals. In fact, these are out for delivery today - just waiting for that little brown truck to show up... So I am wondering, if it would be best for me to delete the standard.xml file for Flight under controls, and let it rebuild after I have installed the new Warthog? Will it just rebuild itself if I delete it? Or should I just leave it and see how it works out recognizing the new controller? Thanks for any tips,

  14. On another "Picky" thread I mentioned one of FLIGHT's bugs regarding piston engine driving variable pitch props. There are 6 in FLIGHT, although only three have a cockpit and allow us to check MP and RPM... Here's a link to an excellent text explaining it all :-) http://www.advancedp...nloads/prep.pdf Check your preferred flightsims for this ... Operate them as real as they can get ;-)

Hey gang, Ok so I know this has been discussed in the FSX forums in the past, this afternoon I was reading up on another flight sim forum I subscribe to - a combat flight sim - and this topic was being discussed there, The Intel I7 core processors utitlize a feature called hyper threading, which is typically enabled by default , in the motherboard's bios. I have always left mine enabled. It basically gives you virtual cores, so with a quad core processor it also gives 4 virtual cores, or 8 threads of processing overall. Pretty simplistic explanation but that is how I look at it. As I understand, not many games - if any, are coded to take advantage of these virtu…

http://www.facebook....com/#!/msflight Im thinking F6F. Im 99% sure of this, and no I dont have any "inside knolege". Im sure 99% sure it has no cockpit ;) Its 100% a navy bird going off of the marking, and a late war at that. The tapering at the top disqualifies F4F and F4U, and also the SBD. *EDIT* Now that im looking at the models I made (F4U for A2A and F6F for Vertigo) I think its the F4U. The panel lines, shape, and even a small door match up to the F4U.

  21. I really like the VOR/ILS in MS Flight. This is a beginner/introduction video I made for those new to MS Flight and wanting to know about VOR/ILS navigation. I am by no means an expert myself. I really need to practice much more. Anyhoo, here's what I made, enjoy! note: this was recorded before the new update, so my trim sensitivities are way off. Now, with the new update, I've smoothed those out.

One thing that irritates me - a little - when changing views, is how the message indicator of the view you are in stays up so dang long. If I change to say an exterior view, cycled through to say the screen shot view, then the messages of the view I switched to stay up for several seconds, so if I wanted a screenshot at that particular moment, then those messages will appear in the screenshot. And if I wait till they finally dissappear, well the screen shot I was hoping to get may well no longer be there. I cycled through all exterior views recently, in about 6 seconds. It took about 17 seconds for all those notifications to finally dissappear. Not a biggie, just …

:Praying: Please dev team release this aircraft. No kidding, if you release this one I will buy it for sure whether or not there is a cockpit to fly with. Being from the Navy this aircraft would be very fun for me to fly. What did Pilots Call the F4U Corsair? Nicknames for the F4U Corsair included : U Bird, The Hog, The Ensign Eliminator, Old Hog-Nose, The Bent-Wing Bird, Whistling Death, Sweetheart of Okinawa, Horseshoe, and The Great Iron Bird. The nickname "Ensign Eliminator" came from the fact that inexperienced pilots could have accidents with the F4U Corsairs due to the powerful engine. The nickname "Whistling Death" w…
