The 42nd running of the Iditarod - The Last Great Race - is almost here. Sixty+ mushers will drive their teams from Anchorage to Nome, leaving on March 1st. The logistics of supplying the 25 remote checkpoints would be very difficult without aircraft. The IAF is a group of 31 volunteer pilots who make a lot of things happen during the 3 weeks of Iditarod. They will carry injured dogs, veterinarians, checkpoint volunteers, as well as tons of dog food, bales of hay, lumber for tent cabins, cooking fuel (heet), groceries, etc. Checkout the IAF website to learn more about this great group of pilots. Their website is at www.dogflying.com.

From St. Paul island (PASN) to St. George island (PAPB.) A very short trip for the C-46. I got spotted by the law about half way there but I was at 14,000 ft. By the time I made my landing at St George the law was 8.5 miles behind me, dropped off the suspicious cargo and took off again. Steve

Where do you get the DLC for MS Flight such as the Alaska Pack and some of the planes like the Maule and such, since they closed the market place?

Just went over 3 million XP points tonight. It will take me a lot longer, if ever, to reach the next million. A very sad state of affairs to see the end of the microsoft flight sim franchise after so many years. Yes, I know all about the great new stuff out there. Mostly tube liners, not what I was looking for. I still love the joy of FLIGHT best. Slipping back into FSX, A2A J3 and a couple other GA aircraft that I own. Also enjoying Aerofly FS for what it is and what it will become, I hope. Who knows what the future holds. Steve

Vine Ripe Software, flight Gauge app for android, looks very interesting. Look on the front page. I know it was a reach, but I had to inquire. He says "it will not work for FLIGHT because it is not open to third party developers." Sure would be nice for the cockpitless war birds. I just did an almost 200 mile job with the C-46 at 14,000 feet with a 8 knt quartering head wind in very turbulent weather and darkness. Sure would have been nice to have some instruments to refer to. But it was fun and I did make it. Steve

I am not flying in Alaska - it's cold enough as it is, thank you! Well, not me - it's still sunny and warm here. But, I expect it to get pretty cold in the next few days as the front extends itself down to the Caribbean. When that happens, temperatures drop down to the high teens! Hmmm.... Centigrage degrees! For the metrically-challenged, 18º C. = about 65º F. Of course, that is only at night. During the daytime, the temperature will rise to 26º C. = about 80º F. But, I prefer to stick to Hawai'i until it gets a little warmer up North. And for my flights, I use the Icon. The more I fly it, the more I like it. What was it the guy, Kirk, said…

I've been setting up a new hard drive that's going to stay with minimal software, designed just for Flight Simming. X-Plane X has been on there a few days, followed by Aerofly and now Flight, smoother than ever. I was just taking a quick look around, enjoying the view and thinking about all the furor on the forums about P3Dv2, both the good and the bad, and as I flew through Alaska it just occurred to me yet again how close Flight already was in so many ways to what people are looking for. It made me hope against hope yet again that this great Simulator engine is not allowed to fade into history.

Hello, I read in this forum that there was a tool to convert FSX aircraft into Flight aircraft. Is it possible to make the reverse ? I would like to use the Van's RV4 and the Piper Cub in FSX. Cheers, Sylvain

Is there any possibility of removing the "locks" on the aircraft in the hanger so that any plane that you own could be used in all the missions and jobs. I took this up with MS once and they said it could not be done because of weight and load requirements for the different aircraft. But still, the Cub can carry 4 passengers and a full load of fuel with ease, not realistic of course but........... You are the wizard, would certainly make it more interesting. Like for the kayak rescue mission one could use the Cub and make a water landing onto the beach, just saying. Steve

I have created a quick blank white paintkit for use on both the basic and deluxe Carbon Cub. The painkit includes both exterior texture sheets. Each has a layer with an original colored livery, a layer with all paintable surfaces turned white for easy viewing, and a layer set to the "Multiply" blending mode for painting on. This should make it much easier for anyone to create their own livery for this particular plane rather than having to paint over an existing texture. The best way to use this is to create a new Carbon Cub livery with the Addon Builder and set it to export the textures to PSD format. Replace the PSDs in the Livery folder with the two PSDs in the dow…

The buttons I had assigned to Pitch Trim on my CH Yoke moved the trim by 5 degrees every time. The keyboard assignment only 1 degree..In the standard.xml file, I removed the Repeat lines for the trim and now the buttonsonly move 1 degree per click (but do not repeat when held down).. a trade-off,but 5 degrees was too much for my liking..<Entry> <Index>10</Index> <Down> <EventName>FlightControls.PitchTrimDownIncrement</EventName> </Down> </Entry> <Entry> <Index>11</Index> <Down> <EventName>FlightControls.PitchTrimUpIncrement</EventName> </Down> </Entry>

MS FLIGHT International This is a link to a group on Facebook for Microsoft Flight if anyone is interested in joining it, click the link above. I just found it a few weeks ago, but they post info on group flights, cool screenshots, repaints and other random stuff (basically just another forum like AVSIM). Just thought people might be interested. Enjoy! -a1stogg :t4020:

From the 2013 Demographics survey. I just thought it was interesting. ^_^ 11. Most of us own multiple simulators. But, we tend to favor one flight simulator over the others that reside on our hard drives. On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the most time you spend with a simulator, how do you rate your time on these sims? If you do not own one or more of these sims, leave the matrix choice empty. 1 - Least Time 2 3 4 5 - Most Time Number of Respondents Least Time 2 3 4 Most Time Microsoft FS 2002 90% (688) 3% (29) 3% (27) 1% (9) …

Just wondering, the wind gauge in the HUD; does it display the wind direction relative to the aircraft heading, or does it show the direction relative to the points of the compass?

I posted about a week ago that I had located where I had stored my Ch rudder pedals about 5 years ago when I retired from FS9. I hooked them up, calibrated them with the new CH software, and they work great. As I have been flying around the last few days, I realize that I am not using them very much, taxi and takeoff, aerobatics, which I don't do much of ( yet) and landings, especially crosswind landings. Total time maybe 1-2 minutes out of a flight that might be 1-2 hours. ( It probably was about the same with FS9, since I flew mostly heavy jets) Prior to resurrecting the pedals, I was using the twist grip on my Extreme 3D pro for rudder control. My question is, b…

Just finished watching "Island in the Sky" from the John Wayne collection. Great movie from 1953. DC-3/C-47 down in the wilds of a Labrador winter. Burr, -40 degrees F. Fellow pilots involved in the search. A very good look at harsh winter flying conditions in the early 50's. Lots of good extra stuff on this CD also. I have had it for some time but decided this was a good time to see it again as I watch the snow fall outside and contemplate going outside to blow out the driveway. Steve

Small update to the Addon Manager in this release. If you are having problems installing DLC via GFWL, you can now install it directly from the Addon Manager. I haven't tested this functionality fully, and there may be some things in Flight that don't work correctly if you don't have the content installed via the standard GFWL process. Right now there is no progress shown for the downloading DLCs. If you would like, you can also manually download the cab files for the DLCs and install them via the command line: AddonManager.exe "foo.cab" http://flighttoolkit.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/FlightToolkit_0_9_3.zip Instructions for installing DLC: - Install the toolkit …

I think it's really simple.Besides flying on the pc I also race on the pc. One of the racing games I like is Dirt. Love it. Played it a lot. Great fun. Then the same company (!) who created Dirt released F1 2010. For those who don't know it: that's also a game that lets you drive in cars... Nice. However, there are some differences between the games... So what did I do?I went to the Codemasters forum and posted (time after time, in every possible topic) that F1 2011 was crap because it didn't offer me what Dirt offered me. It only had closed tracks. I want open stages!!! It has some 23 other cars on the track. Screw Codemasters! I want to drive on my own! One game lets me…
