Some of the job board missions would really benefit from having some fuel planning info. Sometimes you have to reduce fuel to make the flight. MS does not provide any of the info that a real world pilot would have, and I just don't trust that range bar anymore than I trusted the fuel planner in FSX. So I tried to compile the data myself by doing a test flight. Here are my results, these are conservative figures and your milage will vary depending on flying style:Taxi: .2 galClimb to 7000' 1.6 gal, 5 mins, 3.5 nmClimb to 11,000' 2.6 gal, 10 mins, 10.5 nmClimb to 12,500' 3.5 gal, 15 mins, 19.2 nmClimb to 13,500' 4.4 gal, 20 mins, 25.6 nmCruise 17gph, 96kt (I didn't see much…

Well, it's hard to get accurate measurements for my test flight without a GPS (had to hold a ruler up to the map screen to make some guesses), but here's the data I came up with:Taxi: 0.1 galClimb to 4000' 0.3 gal, 5 min, 4.8 nmClimb to 7500' 0.9 gal, 10 min, 10.4 nmClimb to 9500' 1.2 gal, 15 min, 16 nmClimb to 11,000' 1.5 gal, 20 min, 21.6 nmCruise approx 6 gph, 96 ktDescent from 4000' 0.1 gal, 6.4 min, 5.4 nmDesc from 7500' 0.2 gal, 10.4 min, 10.2 nmDesc from 9500' 0.3 gal, 12.9 min, 13.4 nmDesc from 11,000' 0.4 gal, 14 min, 15.8 nmHope this helps, will post more info on other aircraft when I do the test flights.- Gary Letona

  3. I sometimes have a case of The Blurries (when flying low and fast), and after playing around with the official graphics setting, I went looking further into the .cfg, like a lot of simmers would traditionally do.I noticed that if I change stuff in that file (like the interestingly named MaxTextureUpdateBandwidthPerFrame), Flight will revert it to the original setting. That is, unless the following entry is changed:[Configuration]Custom=0This is named as if it was specifically designed for tweakers ;-)Setting this to 1 will stop Flight from reverting a tampered-with Flight.cfg, and it greys out everything in the graphics menu, so that you can not change anything there anym…

Kind of interesting! usually when a new Sim debuts, there are a few grainy, obviously amateur efforts for a while, and then the quality gradually amps up. With Flight! however, the high quality videos have arrived almost instantly.http://youtu.be/dVlCwPQNUN0http://youtu.be/N7R2m21WLJI

Hi, Fellow Simmers,I just fixed a problem which has been causing me quite a bit of vexation, so I'm mentioning it here in case any of you, too, are having the same problem. When taxiing either the RV or the A5, I experienced instability in the yaw axis to the point that I was dealing with PIO (Pilot Induced Oscillations) which kept increasing in intensity until I frequently ended up in the grass. Thanks to some tips on adjusting joystick sensitivity submitted by n4gix, I was able to edit the xml file and change the rudder null setting from 0.1 to 0.05. Now my taxiing is quite stable. There is another control issue I'm having besides others posted here that maybe one of you…

  8. I tried serching for this problem and didn't find any similar topics, so...I am running on an HP Elitebook 8650w with Windows 7 Pro. I'm connected to the internet over wireless through FIOS. I installed Flight, and it installed ok and runs fine. But when I try to sign in to Windows Live, it tries to download my profile, then I get the following error message:"The Live Service may be unavailable..."I have an existing windows live account. I can log into it fine from IE9.I can't change the password, but it seems to be ok (the same number of *'s as characters). I did install the Windows Live login helper software a while ago. Windows Live Essentials is installed.Any thou…

  9. Just had the kids come up and give Flight a go. The verdict is they loved it and after two hours I had to kick them off the sim. I use the realistic settings meaning the stupid hud is gone and the flight models are set to realistic. They loved the challenge. I must say with the graphics and the superior FDE's this sim is a winner for me. I just hope the DLC includes things like activating ground traffic, ATC, and AI. The one place I'm really hoping for if Flight ends up being an area sim is lower Alaska in the Fjords region (I keep saying this so MS will hear me). I'm sure gamers would love the challenge including simmers. Of course the golden goose would be to op…

I have tried every method I could think of to install Microsoft Flight and still get the black screen of death no matter what. I have tried direct install via the website, I have tried installing through the marketplace, and I have even tried downloading the zip file, extracting it and running the setup.exe. I get no errors when extracting the file, and setup runs fine it seems. But whenever I try starting the game, I get the splash screen in windowed mode, than the game goes full screen and everything freezes. Pressing the space bar doesn't do anything either. My keyboard doesn't work either, caps, num key etc, the whole pc is frozen requiring a hard reset. I am trying t…

After my initial positive posts about 'autogen as far as the eye can see' I have to say I was wrong. More and more I notice autogen popping up and quite obviously too, sometimes nearby, in large groups at once. It seems the houses don't pop up, at least I can't remember seeing them popup, which led me to believe that maybe alpha fading is used for houses, but the trees defenitely do NOY use alpha fading, to my big disappointment...Do you also notice trees popping up?I have an i5 [email protected] and a GTX580. I already set Shadows from Maximum to High, but maybe I should also set the other Maximum settings to High...? Apart from preventing the still present blurries, this may als…

Anyone with the Mustang play the old "how high can I go" game and notice the upper cloud layer seems to almost rise with you? I'm almost certain at this point in the games development that upper cloud layer is 100% completely unreachable. I peaked out at 37,551ft and it looked the same distance away from that height as it did on the ground.

Multiplayer in Flight is so easy and even if you are a little shy like me you should try it because it adds a lot to the Flight experience. But, there are different options and perhaps it is best to go through them for the benefit of all.First, users will have different airplanes and if you don't own it or have it in your hangar, you will not see their airplane. Instead, a silver arrow is displayed - people are calling it a UFO. The Games for Windows Live (GWFL) Marketplace offers free Previews of the Maule and the Mustang. In truth, they are the complete plane but without a license. You can get them and they will show in your hangar, but more importantly when in Multiplay…

I need to screw down the damn things to a solid base....

Let me start off by saying I really can't agree more with Luis's quote from his avsim review on Flight"It is normal to resist change, even when beneficial. This is a common human trait and the reaction to Flight was to be expected. But there really is no reason to despair. Flight is a very good base for a complete flight simulator. It seems to be relatively trouble-free, highly extensible, and holds a lot of promise."To sum it up I feel this game has strong potential but there is really something that Flight nailed down and that was in my opinion the unrestricted sensation of flying a plane. Now it may sound weird at first but I too am an individual that enjoys flying ILS …

Some early experimental results with teen and young adults “Ab Initio” interaction with Microsoft Flight.A word of caution. This research is informal, as it utilizes past participants of a recently concluded scientific study of a new approach to “deeply integrated” and “in context” flight training, who have agreed to recruit persons from within their own social contact group to participate.Personal Computer based Flight Simulation, as a game category, has suffered the worst customer retention, duration of play, and satisfaction statistics. Related statistics are reflected in research with regard to the low completion rates (80% Drop Out rate) of students who initiate Gene…

Hi All,Flying in FLIGHT's Heavy Fog is no easy task as can be attested to by a number of folks already. For those who have not flown this type approach in FLIGHT, here is a short clip of flying the PHTO (Hilo) ILS Runway 26 approach during the day with the RV-6A in Heavy fog.I started recording at Procedure Turn Inbound Intercept, but as Kevin said, you get multiple 4GB files that need to be stitched together. This isn't so difficult but seems something lost in the conversion process to a file type Youtube accepts. Something I need to work on and learn to do better. For now, it's much simpler just to upload one 4GB .avi and let Youtube do the converting. The (current FAA) …

I just completed a mission using the RV. It' s the mission where you take a photographer on a "long" flight to various points of interested. I won't bore you with the details but I had a BLAST flying it.OK, to the point of this post. At one point in this flight (I'm not going to call them missions <grin>), I found myself flying between several cliff peaks. Suddenly, I noticed that the RV's dash seemed to be very bright, then dim, then bright... sort of a bright "flickering" effect. I thought my graphics card was acting up. But then I realized what was happening... the light from the sun (that was behind me and below the clifts) was appearing and disappearing as I fl…

I decided to make some screenshots using various graphic settings because I was very curious what every settings exactly does. At first I wanted to create animated gifs, but the quality of those isn't too good and the files become rather big, so I decided to upload seperate pictures. If you download them to your computer and open them with the default viewer, you will be able to switch between them to make the differences more obvious. Because this is not the screenshot forum AND because this is not about the screenshots but the explanation of the settings, I decided to post it all on this forum and so the pictures are posted as links only. :wink:1. All these shots were m…

If it's not too much trouble can someone post their whole cameras.cfg file so I can put it back to default (C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Flight\Cameras.cfg). Thanks in advance to anyone that can help... :Sigh:

Hi, all,I haven't seen any body mention this fact yet, so I'll bring it up. Here's an advantage that Flight has over FSX: The sound of engine speed for a given prop setting is more or less correct. For example, when you have the prop set for a certain speed in the Maule or RV and you then throttle back a ways, you shouldn't hear the engine speed change. You will hear the engine work less hard, but the R.P.M will appear to be the same. Conversely, if you advance manifold pressure, you will hear the engine work harder, but you won't detect the sound of R.P.M. change. This feature is not present in FSX, and it's always bothered me. I wish somebody would figure out how to …

I am doing a mission and all the time there is a line of text at the top of the screen, saying what I have to do next. After a few minutes of looking at it I know what to do next... I turned various options off but that text stays where it is... Is it possible somehow to get rid of that line? It's spoiling the immersion... I don't mind a line saying what to do for a few seconds, but having to look at it all the time... It almost feels like a bug that the text won't disappear.BTW The same goes for the N Skip to next waypoint sign. I know what N does. Imagine having a sign onscreen for everything... I don't need that Skip sign.
