I purchased the PMDG MD11 early this afternoon but I have not been able to install it yet. When I attempt to install it I run into the following message with the installer and it seems to have to do with the C++2008 redistributable file. "Unable to find a volume for file extraction. Please verify that you have proper permission" This is the message I typed to PMDG Support - Paul Yep, Im selecting "Extract All Files" in the zipped folder to unzip the exe. Once the new folder opens I am removing the exe from the folder and placing it on the desktop. (I have tried leaving it in the folder) I am then double clicking on the link and I receive the message "The following VS2008 …

I thought I had got to grips with using approach charts to decide the appropriate STAR. But I've been brought up short by the problem explained below.When planning a flight from KJFK to runway 33L at KBOS I used the Navigraph chart options from which I selected the STAR "NORWICH3". This meets, I think, the criteria need for landing on 33L. The STAR options offered by Navigraph are:GARDENER3NORWICH3SCUPP3RNAV INNDY2However when programming the flight in the MD-11's FMCU the STAR options are different and don't include "NORWICH3"They are:GDM3.ALLINNDY.ALLORW3.ALLSCUPP4.ALLWOONS1I'm now at sea. I am the king of short cuts and I have tried since this plane was released for FS9. THERE ARE NONE. I even tried to shortcut the tutorial. No luck. Most problems being listed on this forum are clearly from those short cutting the manual. I tried. You will run into such easy fixes by glancing at the manual. I have crashed several times including using the tutorial. I finally read as much as I could read and just today was my first REAL flight from the Long Beach Facility. the same problem in both virsion of sim. I fly in FS9 only, but I check if this problem existed in FSX and it did.When I load the aircraft in Cold & Dark config, and rotate all 3 IRS sellectors to NAV as per tutorial instructions (that's before the APU start, with EXT power ON, parking breaks on, not moving I guess, and the IRS-time alignement is set to 15 seconds. However I tried all timing: 10 minuts, 15 seconds, 0 seconds).The lights above IRS sellector knobs start flashig and continue doing so for ever, and the message on EICAS says IRS1 NO ALIGN, IRS AUX NO ALIGN, IRS3 NO ALIGN. Hi,I'm using FSNavigator to prepare my flight plans, but as far as I can see, I can't use it on the MD11. I don't know if there is another way to prepare a flight plan in FSNav, but I do as follows:1 - pick up a departure runway2 - pick up an arrival runway3 - calculate autoroute4 - Export to PMDGThat used to work with 737 and 747 but not with MD11. The fact that I must choose a departure runway doesn't allow me to change it, if necessery. In the tutorial the departure point is: EGLL which is the aiport with all SIDs and STARs available, but, on the contrary of how the 737 and 747 behave, the MD11 doesn't recognize my departure airport but only the runway. :( well I hope …

For some unknown reason everytime I press the Push-to-Talk on my Yoke the autopilotdisengages. It happens with the 747 & 737 series. Never experienced this before andwondered if anyone knows what may be the cause. Trying not to have to reinstalleverything.Thanks and regards

Hi guys, first of all great airplane, it is really fantastic.I fly too and from EGLL alot, mainly to europe and back. Ive noticed a problem with the BIG3B STAR. The waypoints seem to be in the wrong place.I have taken a screenshot compairing the charts for this approach to what gets programmed after selecting the STAR from the FMC. Now all of the waypoints are here but they are in the incorrect position reletive to the BIG vor. If you look at the BIG/09 waypoint on the ND, it is the correct distance from BIG, 9nm, but its on completely the wrong bearing. The same can be said for the waypoints on the start of the first turn. It looks like its adding the distance waypoints …

Great aircraft. I'm having a bit of a problem. My first flight I went and followed the tutorial and it seems as soon as my flight loads, the aircraft is running and the throttles firewall (AP/AT?). I tried everything I can think of to disconnect, but every 5 seconds it goes full N1 and it keeps blaring "FLAPS FLAPS FLAPS" I guess because its trying to take off at the gate. I also cannot seem to get the IRS aligned. As soon as she loads, they are already on? Thanks!-Alex

I can't wipe the grin off my face this plane is so awesome! PMDG has done an outstanding job with my most favorite aircraft, THANK YOU! This is the only plane I now fly. I will have the task of learning this aircraft. I can't put into words what the MD-11 means to me as I was a mechanic at Douglas on the MD-11 program. to me there are no other add on aircraft. I love the sound of the oleo struts when you land, talk about detail. The FMC and auto flight program have a bit of a learning curve, but the detail is amazing! this is the best $80 I have ever spent! I'm just wondering if theres any possibility on PMDG making a CRJ (200/700/900) I have purchased the wilco, but it seems to be missing quite a few things, a lot of buttons you can't press, or see, and some incomplete systems like the FMC. It's my favorite plane and I would definatly purchase it, and I know quite a few other people out there that have been waiting for a better CRJ to come out. If theres any chance you guys do this, I can provide you with a lot of CRJ pictures, and quite a bit of information about the systems. Hi all,Apologies if this has been answered, but a search did not turn up any posts about this.I have the FSX PMDG MD-11 *without* the service update installed. The first flight is always OK. Without exiting FSX+ Acceleration, if I start a new flight with any MD-11 variant, the 2D cockpit is gray. Not the displays, the whole thing. Same for the 3D view. The only way to get a cockpit back is to do a "repair install". This will give me five or so flights before I have to do another repair install. The other oddity is that I have installed ~15 liveries, both pax and freighter, but only five show up in the FSX "Select Aircraft" page. Is there a limit on the total number of va…

Hello PMDG:My apologies about having to post this on the Forum. A few days ago I purchased MD11 for FS9. I received a confirmation e-mail that came from the PMDG order server. The software was billed to my credit card. On the E Commerce website (PMDG) it says you "currently have no previous orders in the store". How does one obtain the original download?$80.00 is quite a bit of money not to have gotten product. Hi!Just installed XP pro-64 bit on another partition on my HD today.I was quite certain it would be no problem, to use all PMDG AC on a XP pro 64, but no, it seems it dosent work for me. Just unconnected black gauges?Am I missing something? ...or do I have to make FS compatibel to an 32 bit? It

On approach, as I'm reducing airspeed, I get a constant landing gear warning horn.On the Leonardo Sim MD80, there was a similar horn, that was triggered IIRC when the airspeed was below 210 knots, flaps were extended and the throttles were at idle. However, it could be silenced using the horn cutoff button on the throttle quadrant.In the MD11, the horn cutoff button doesn't seem to do anything, and the horn continues to sound until I lower the gear. Also, it sounds regardless of the throttle setting (I don't know if this is a difference between the Md80 and the MD11).Is there any way to silence this alarm without having to remove it entirely?

Hi,Just wanted to say I love the MD-11 (FS9 VERSION) and enjoy it greatly but I have a question for anybody more knowledgeable on the subject of takeoffs and trim settings. Somebody asked about this (Forgot who?) before the first patch came out if it was going to be included about how you must immeadietly after TO apply down elevator trim because the plane just about wants to leap off the ground at VR into a 25 to 30 degree up angle.I read this was not happening in FSX version and was curious if others are seeing this pecularity in takeoff with the proper trim settings per the FMS.I hope this makes some sense to somebody and maybe you can instruct me on the proper proced…

Normally, with Autoland engaged in the MD-11, I'm able to activate reverse thrust after touch down.However sometimes I can't reduce speed despite hitting "Z" to disengage the autothrottle. What am I doing, or not doing, please?Cliff

This plane is surely a computer driven complex bird. I am trying to learn how to fly without using the autoflight (hand flying). Using all the data from the tutorial flight as well as ActiveSky 6.5 real weather download is not recommend for new pilots to this plane. Everything was going fine until the ATC gave the other end of the runway causing me to try and find the new SID. Well I did not do a good quick job and the SID and waypoints did not connect properly. You are not given any leeway on trying to operate or program the MCDU while hand flying. If you get out of position and start to roll or slow too fast the auto system takes over and you should not try to over comp…

well, after being away from FS for 3 years due to being in college, i finally had enough and decided to get back into it. so i ordered a new pc to run FSX. after waiting a few weeks i finally got it running last night. having owned the 744 for FS9 i knew i had to get the md-11 to christen the new rig. and after playing around with it for a bit, i decided to do a little test flight. and here i am, FL 330 from KBUR to KPHX, and hopefully within a week i will be able to do a real flight in her. i just want to say, WOW. i didnt think it was possible to improve on the 744. but i was wrong, and i must say, i am impressed with FSX, although the could have done better, its a nice…

UUA: Extremely low temperatures over Hudson Bay Canada. Anywhere above FL240 will cause fuel to freeze and associated flameout.Just happened to me. thats what happens when you leave the sim alone.
