Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etc

Discussion forum for Video Cards and Drivers - all things related to the video system of your computer.

  1. Just read that the new $599 GTX 1080 not only is 2x powerful than $1000 Titan X, it also has this fantastic "simultaneous multi-projection" feature for super wide screen/triple monitor setups. It automatically corrects the FOV on each monitor so all those nasty distortions will be eliminated with not performance hit. With that I'm seriously thinking to fly my future P3D gear in 3x TV or projectors. I didn't want to do triple displays b/c I hate those distortions caused by super wide FOV. Don't know whether this feature is all done at the drive level or it has be specifically supported by each games though.

Hi, Now my setup contains GTX 780 and GTX Titan. I know this setup cant run in a SLI configuration. What is the best way to make use of 2 GPU without running SLI in your head? Thanks!

  4. Hello, I am currently still using a GTX 680 with 2GB of video ram. At times I have objects only partially drawing such as when looking at my plane at the gate I only see wings and wheels. Would upgrading to a card such as a GTX 970 with 4GB of DDR5 RAM improve this problem and/or improve frame rates? I have my i7 3770 overclocked to 4.0 GHz so don't think I can make much gain with a new mobo and CPU. I should have mentioned this is in FSX.

  5. *I've put this in the Video cards forum even though it may be more of a processor / storage issue - I don't know Hello all, I've been playing flight sim for around 6 months now and I really enjoy it, love flying aircraft like the Dash 8, and PMDG NGX and T7 (I'd like to fly the Airbus too but performance is just too bad). However, a few years back when I first invested in a PC, flight sim was not considered (TBH I didn't know it was a thing) so my hardware definitely struggles. I can get around 40 fps (internally limited for smoothness) in external views, and around 20 fps max in internal views, however this is on very low graphics settings and almost unreadable textu…

  7. Hello I wonder if you can help me I'm using windows 7 64 32 with FS2004 and IFly 737NG (downloadable version) I'm not that tech savy so I haven't a clue where to resolve this problem, for some reason when I make alterations to weather or other features in fs2004 and even when I initially boot it up the menu screens and add-ons appear way too bright but also the add-ons appear to lose detail looking more like the block-style FS2004 default airports looking like cartoons. I've adjusted my screen settings and Windows 7 colour calibration tool and try to make adjustments to the FS2004 Controls-Display area features, but even though I can obviously change the levels o…

First of all, I'm running FSX:SE in DX10 with Steve's Fixer, and tons of addons like Flightbeam & FSDT airports, PMDG & QW planes, ASN, Orbx FTX Global, REX textures. I recently upgraded to a 6600k and have a pretty powerful machine, can get 45-60 fps constant with all of those addons using my "personally optimized" settings I guess you could say. That's great, but running unlimited fps to get them that high just causes unplayable stutters and I don't really know if there's a way to run on unlimited without big spikes on my PC. Anyways - Up until a few days ago everything was running smooth as I could expect. For some reason the last couple days I started noti…

  9. Hi, I have decided to upgrade my flight simulation rig by making my own simple cockpit. I have everything else thought out but I have never done anything with multi-monitors on computers. I'd like to have 4 monitors for outside viewing, setup B737 style. The 5th monitor I would have as the 2D panel view for instruments. A full list of what I'd like to run: 4 outside viewing monitors/TVs 1 smaller monitor for instrument panel Saitek Yoke, Saitek rudder pedals, and Saitek throttle quadrant (1x) Saitek switch, multi, and radio panels Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX) I'd be building a custom frame to mount this all in. Here are my PC specs: Windows 7…

  10. Has anyone came across a good explanation on understanding the parameters of the panel.cfg file. Having gone to a widescreen Nvidia surround display across 3 23" monitors, I have been forced to edit my panel config files to avoid the 2D panel "bug" than plagues these types of configurations. (http://www.wsgf.org/forum/11008/problem-triplehead2go-and-fsx-2d-view?page=2) Although this helped to some extent in resolving the most detrimental aspect of the bug, flashing active cursor with dramatically reduced framerate effect, 2D panels are still inconvenient to use. Although I do prefer the VC cockpit, I do depend on 2D specific panels for some options, not to mention…

Hello. Very sorry if this is in the wrong place (Ill do better next time), I want to know if I should upgrade from a AMD R9 290 (not x) to a GTX 1070 for Flight sim (FSX:SE and Primary P3D) I have an i7-4790k @ 4.0Ghz stock. Will this upgrade bring more performance to my sim. Someone over on the P3D forums recommended to another user to re size the window of P3D and see if the frame rate goes up. It didn't. I'm not sure if this is because of the AMD card or my CPU bottlenecking. I don't think its being bottlenecked, but I know the AMD card doesn't help. I am currently getting about 17-25FPS in the PMDG 737 NGX at KJFK, Thanks for the reply's in advance

Hi looking for a bit of advice on what monitor I should be looking at,as i plan on updating soon. The only thing i'm retricted to is on size as i can't really go much bigger than 27inch.Price is not to much of a hinderance, within reason and res i can go as high as I want as i have a gtx980ti in my system. So what should i be looking at Any suggestions please? Thanks

  13. :smile:Hi everyone I am hoping you can offer me some advice about my plans for a sim system. I have a high end PC with two Titan x cards in sli which at the moment run just one philips 40" 4k monitor. I am running P3D v3 with all the orbx packs, active sky, rex4 and A2A C182 as a learning aircraft. I am going to get the Saitek yoke, pedals, throttle etc. My query is this I have a fair bit of space where my PC is located. Should I ditch the 40" monitor I have and put a 65" curved 4k tv on my desk @ £1500 or should I get another 40" and have a two monitor setup @ £550 or should I get another 2 40" monitors and have a three monitor setup. @ £1100 I am go…

Hi ... I find my GPU is running a bit hot, noticed there is no space next to the gpu fan... Want to move it to a different slot which will give it a bit more space and hopefully help with airflow. I have setup NVI etc, if I move he slot do I need to configure anything in terms of drivers, NVI settings or settings within FSX ITSELF ?. My gpu is a gtx 660. Thanks

  18. Curious what the consensus is on when, and by how much of a price drop will we see on the 980ti? I'd like to replace my 780GTX, but hoping with the 1080 due out in about a week, the prices start to drop considerably. Cheers, Busdriver

Hi all, My specs are in the sign below. I have AM=244 in fsx.cfg Usually m sim runs in the 60c except when I enable thread optimization in NVI, when temps hit high 70C, quite often, only for a couple of seconds. However, I noticed my fPS stays at 20, its set at 21 in fsx.cfg and 20 in NVI. Is high temps a effect of enabling thread optimization ? Thanks

Fellow simmers, to help get the word out of what is now a known issue with two models of the eVGA 980TI VR card, I'd like to say this in hopes to help others before they get their OR if by chance you are one of the unlucky ones like me. The video card I brought specific for VR has hardware issues on a few P/IN models. eVGA knows about it and will RMA the cards to the customers like me. The video card in question is the eVGA GTX 980TI VR which has a front port HDMI port and two USB 3 ports specific for ease of use with the Oculus Rift. Only thing is that two models are having issues where the HDMI port will work with some HDMI monitors but not Oculus Rift and the user…

Hi. I have what I think is a strange problem when using SLI. If my frame-limiter in P3D is set to "Unlimited" (No VSync or TB) then there is a difference in usage of my two video cards. The first card will show Usage approximately 20-25% higher than the second card. The Power figures are essentially equal. This is using EVGA's PrecisionX 16 testing utility. Now, as I lower the frame-limiter the difference in usage becomes less until, at about 30FPS, the usage becomes equal or close to it. I've checked the two video cards separately and they seem to be equal in performance. Is there some logical technical reason this is happening or is something strange going on…

  25. I read on this forum a post that suggested using Driver Manager or something like that, however, I cannot remember the thread or the person who made the post, I think it was staff. I used to manually download and install all drivers, however, I am getting old, and with age, getting lazy. What is a good program to keep my drivers up to date? Thank you.
