  1. AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Gigabyte Mobo, Sapphire Radeon HD3870 512Mb GPU, FS9 & FSXI'm unable to get AA working in FS9 on this system (clean install, latest Catalyst drivers). AA works in every other game, including FSX.I've tried every combination of enabling & disabling AA in game and in the Catalyst driver. I've tried Rivatuner, ATI Tray Tools, and Catalyst Control Centre. I've done that diligently.Tried Omega Drivers but no change.Tried Driver Cleaner with each driver upgrade. No difference in windowed or full screen mode.Any ideas?

Hi Folks,I have a problem on another system running FS9. I have an nVidia 8500 GT card w/1GB VRAM installed on this machine, running WinXP Pro SP3 & all current updates. Windows sees the card just fine, but when I go to start FS9, an error message appears concerning not enough video ram, and it switches to 3-d mode. When I go to FS9's display settings and click on the hardware tab, there is no card listed in the devices drop down--it's blank, and no resolutions/no way to change settings other than adjusting the frame rate.....very weird! Does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks,Jim

  3. I like to check the Dell site every few days to keep a pulse on what is happening and being offered in hardware and prices as well. I have noticed a trend over the last month whereas GTX285, GTX 275's have been deleted from the option list, being replaced by lower GTX260 cards. You can still find the odd GTX285 offered, but not across the Dell line, as before. You might find these two articles an interesting read/take on nVidia's 'shortage' being shipped out to O.E.M.'s.Before somebody types that they are phasing out in favor of the 300 series, there was always a ample pipeline of older offerings from nVidia, when new series were being introduced. Dell would use them (cur…

Hi all. anyone using the above mentioned graphics card? The catalysts 9.9 drivers with the hotfix is a complete nightmare for me. While I'm able to play other games with huge frame rate improvements just fine, FSX is totally not playable. I get anything from black screen, textures not showing up on the majority of my aircrafts, FSX not loading and giving error - 'unable to load FSX cfg.' unbeleivable low frame rates. (hard to believe since upgrading from a Geforce 7300 AGP 512M, 128bit.)I have tried older drivers from 9.3 up including the beta 9.10 from guru3d, without any luck. Before I continue, let me say that my system is mediocre.Specs: Asus A7N8X deluxeAMD barton 28…

Was just wondering, if anybody has updated their nVidia GTX285's BIOS? I thought to try a search to see if there is even an updated BIOS firmware download 'out there'....If somebody in fact already has, did you find any advantages in performance by doing so?I did one years ago on an AGP card, and in that regard it proved to be quite advantageous. POST EDIT:Hmmm...seems there are ALL SORTS of custom and 'hot' 285 BIOS out there. Also, here is a post that somebody thinks they can flash a GTX275, to become a GTX285 in performance....From a Dutch forum:Apparently it is possible to Bios flash the Asus ENGTX275 to a GTX285. The 285 uses PCB 897 the 275 uses PCB 654.After flashi…

My two year old HP came equipped with a 300W power supply and a 8500GT video card. Ran very well with decent graphics, until last week when BSOD and just about anything else you can imagine took place on my screen. Multi colored artifacts, complete freeze up, BSOD (B=Black), white areas turned yellow, Safe Mode only boot and then no boot at all. Process of elimination targeted the video card. Bought a Radeon HD4670 for which ATI recommends nothing less than a 400W power supply, preferably higher. While waiting for such power supply to arrive from Newegg, I installed the HD4670 to see what would happen. Would it run at all on a 300W supply? Would I have drop outs, or anythi…

Hope this isn't a redundant thread, but looking for your opinions on the alternatives of either a single 28-inch 1920 X 1200 LCD or two 21.5-inch 1920 x 1080 LCDs. About the same outlay for either choice dollar wise - but what would drive your choice? I have the desktop space for either. Like to fly heavies. Thanks all for any feedback

I am absolutely dumbfounded.I have the AGP Radeon X800 PRO/GTO 256 MB card (yes, it is an old system).I have the latest (I think) Catalyst Control Center version 9.3 which correctlyidentifies the card I have.SmartGart set my AGP speed at 8x. Under graphics software I can see that my Direct3D version is 6.14.10.0647.So everything looks OK here - at least for me.But when I try to run FSX I am told that my video card is not sufficient, that I need at least Radeon 8500and FSX will close. My God - my card is much much newer and better than 8500!!When I go to run dxdiag I am told that Direct3D acceleration is NOT available, that AGP texture acceleration is also NOT available, a…

Greetings,Can someone please help me my head is spinning. I need a new monitor for my new build and I have done so much research my head hurts. Basically one simple question. Is 1080 a suitable resolution for any monitor 24" or less. I know you have to go 1200 for anything bigger but not sure if I really want to go that big. There aren't many 1200 choices in the 24" or less range. Thanks much, Chuck B.

Greetings,I am in the process of a new computer build specifically to run Fsx. I now need to select a monitor and am thinking of 23 to 28 inch range. I only want one monitor and what are the advantages of going with a 1920x1200 resolution. What does this give you over a slightly lesser resolution? One company I am working with on the build said that the 1200 one was the way to go.Thanks in advance,Chuck B.

I looking at monitors right now and I am going to go with a 23"-24" widescreen. It will be my only monitor for FS.Samsungs get good reviews but the fastest response time any of them have is 5ms where LG and Asus have some 2ms.The Samsung XL2370 that I believe is being released in October is getting great reviews and it has LED back-lighting. My understating about the type of back-lighting is that it is around the edge of the screen. I have read that this can cause darker spots near the center of the monitor (I have read this about tv's - assuming it applies to monitors as well). In addition, the colors can be overly cold. BTW, I usually fly in the darkIn short, I have th…

Just recently fitted the Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme 280 onto my EVGA GTX 285 SC. Depending on manufacturer and which of the 200-series cards you have, you may have to acquire some extra heatsinks, adhesives, and cooling paste to get all the components covered. It

I'm considering at building an i7 920 based new system and looking at the video benchmarks for GTX275 and GTX285 I'm wondering if, for FSX a GTX285 would be worth the extra expense.Seems to me you get marginally 10% less video ram (896MB vs 1024MB), and 10% less score in regular benchmarks for a lot less cash.Given that FSX is more CPU bound than GPU maybe that 10% difference would be academic...I see plenty of people waxing lyrical about the 285 as it's been around a few months, so has anyone bought the 275 yet?On paper it looks like a no-brainer, but... any comments? :( ThanksDavid

CPU is running at 4.2GHz for those who wanted to say I need to get a higer clocked CPU (see specs) :( Now I'm wondering...wil it help at all to keep my 8800 in my PC for anything FS9/X related thingies? I've read about Physx, but I'm not even sure if FSX supports that (guess not).

  20. I just installed nVidia beta driver 191.03 (from www.guru3d.com) with nHancer 2.5.3 beta2 (link in the nHancer.com forums). I also installed the Aug 2009 update to DirectX a week ago.System is i7 975 @ 4.4 GHz, 2GB eVGA GTX285 at 675MHz, Vista 64 Home Premium SP2So far, looks very promising. Smooth with no stutters in FSX and FS9 at FSDreamTeam KJFK, and this is first driver on the 285 that I've been able to use to successfully undock/move windows to a second monitor in FSX. Airport vehicle animations look much smoother in FS9 with this driver.Previous attempts with drivers post version 182.52 have been trips to Stutter City--this is a day-and-night improvement.RegardsB…

Hello,I was thinking about getting their 2GB version and it has been out of stock for a while. Today I looked at Newegg and there are no EVGA GTX 285's in their listing. Do you think they are out of stock or are they replacing the cards with something else? They still have them at Microcenter but I wouldn't want to get one if there was an issue with the card or they are being replaced with a new version. The brands they have available are BFG, ASUS, MSI and Sparkle. I was thinking that BFG would be the next best choice. Any opinions?
