Just double checking that the 8700K seems to be the current CPU to get for FSX:SE and other sims? It shows as highest single thread performance on passmark which I'm assuming is still important for stuff like current P3D and XP? I'm still running FSX:SE only but I'm looking to upgrade my 3+ year old 4790K in the next year. When I built the 4790K I was kind of wanting to get a 6+ core CPU for more multi-thread performance for video/photo editing but it seems like the 8700K will satisfy that even though it doesn't score nearly as high as Skylake in the multi-thread benchmarks? Whatever I get would be paired with a new 8GB GTX1070 (my 780 died last weekend) and 16-32GB o…

Have a i7 6700k. Cooling is via a Corsair Hydro H115 Liquid Cooling system. Currently OC at 4.3ghz with HT on and fixed voltage of 1.25. With my settings and background processes running (ASP4, ASCA, vPilot, Simserver for RemoteCDU and an ACARs program) my Temps via CoreTemp are running from 65 to 90 degrees Celsius with it tending to hover around 80. Is this normal? I keep seeing in other forums people with higher clocks running in the 50's for temps. But then again it's not a flight Sim they are running. Long term it can't be good to run around 80 but don't understand why with liquid cooling it's high.

I recently noticed that my computer seemed to be running hot during demanding P3D situations (no surprise there, right?). In checking temps with Real Temp I found that it was running around high 70s (C) in demanding scenarios with short spikes as high as 83C. (It's a 6700k overclocked to 4.6, using a Z170 OC Formula present for 4.6 that uses 1.3V adaptive voltage -- a bit high but I've never once gotten a BSOD, and temps used to be totally fine, so I haven't had reason to complain...and cooled with a Noctua NH-D15S.) 83C seemed a bit high, and I hadn’t cleaned my computer out in a year, so I did. Not much dust inside, and after closing it back up temps were basi…

Hi--P3dv4.1 on a 6700k oc'd to 4.6, W7, Nvidia Titan Pascal and 16gb DDR 3200 all on an Asus Maximus Formula VIII board. The video card is also oc'd, with the original fan. Whole rig is about a year old with a large Cooler Master HAF case. The CPU is watercooled by a Corsair H105 horizontally top mounted. About two months ago the Corsair fans became really noisy at high speed and then started rattling, even at idle. CPU Temps at idle are in the low 20's and at high load in P3d run 60-70 degrees, with one core going into the 80's occasionally. I live in Florida and the room is rarely cooler than 80 degrees F. There are three other fans in a push-pull arrangeme…

Hi guys, I think that I MUST change my PSU, previously I've got a MSI Z270 MOBO with a i5 6600K and a GTX 1070, after 2 months I've got big troubles (sound card broken on the MOBO, and now I've big troubles with the 1070) just when I started to OC hte CPU Yesterday I mounted my Z370 and a 8700K but I don't want to have the same issue than before and fried everything, my current PSU is 650W, do you think that is enought for this: I7 8700K @4.7 (but I'll go on 5mhz later) GTX 1080Ti (very soon) 16 GB DDR4 (soon 32) 1SSD and 2 HDD 1 Watercooling for the CPU 2 fans on the box Oculus Rift And if a 750W PSU is a good ch…

Here's an interesting user video from XP11... Same clock speed, different CPU. He had a GTX 1080 for both systems. I'm actually suprised the increase wasn't more. I wonder if the monitor is 60Hz - the 8700K fps don't go much higher than that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADQu_Ryh70A&feature=youtu.be Here's the thread at xplane org https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/135352-test-2600k-45-ghz-vs-8700k-45ghz-xplane-11/&

Not sure how significant batch numbers are these days, now this particular platform, as its based on previous, is quite optimised. But mine is: L734C936 L = Malaysia 7 = 2017 manufactured 34 = Week 34 manufactured C = Lot Number. Wafer ID. 936 = Position on wafer. From what I've read, looks like wafer C chips from weeks in the 30's clock high. Am hoping for the best. I will delid of course so we shall see.

Hi, I really could use some help figuring out what's wrong with my PC. Lately, mostly but not only when gaming, my monitor goes black and after a few seconds I get a "No signal" message. My PC keeps working and it seems the only problem is the loss of image. I can still hear the sound from the game I'm playing but sometimes there's some "screeching" with the other sounds in the background. Pushing reset (I also learned that doing ctrl+alt+delete+3 times tab+enter shuts down the PC even if I can't see what I'm doing :-D) solves the problem until the next time. I have a four year old EVGA GeForce GTX 770 with the EVGA ACX Cooler. I notice…

I am running FSX on a Windows 10 (updated from Windows7) desktop PC. I have windows on Drive C, FSX on drive E and scenery on drive F, all drives being standard hard drives. A recent problem with the PC (it wouldn't boot up) was rectified after advice from the PC supplier. They suggested several things and it seemed that removal and replacement of the memory cards is what did the trick. It got me thinking about computer failure - the PC is nearing 4 years old. The thought of re-installing Windows, FSX, planes, scenery utilities etc etc on a new PC fills me with dread, not the least because of the sheer time involvement. SO: Is it feasible to buy say a 1Tera…

I would like to run FSX on maxed out settings with AI, and lots of scenery addons, aircraft addons and weather addons, at a high FPS count and good graphics. I have heard that it is not recommended to buy a prebuilt one, but what about an XForce PC, or Digital Storm, or even one of Jetline Systems PC’s? Below are some links to some PCs I was looking at. Here's my experience with upgrading my computer. Foreword At first, I was planning to upgrade. I was going to reuse my old case, keep the old video card and save some money. Since my old computer was more than 5 years old, I later thought I should replace the works. I didn't want to destroy one computer to make a new one. What if something goes wrong and I have NO computer? Another realization I had along the way: I have a lot of Add-on's. I have spent hours and days getting my old system 'just right'. There are a huge number of licenses to keep straight. It takes many hours to get all this re-installed and configured. And...tuning and tweaking an over…
