  2. Interesting video for you lads. Asus were asked why Coffee Lake is incompatible with Z270. Intel say it's power delivery. Well Asus disagree, saying power delivery is not that significant. Asus go on to say that they could make Z270 boards capable of handling Coffee Lake with a BIOS update but Intel won't let them. I know hating Intel has been a bit of a pastime, sometimes without validity, but this truly looks like money grabbing if true.

I get it if mods move this to the hardware forum but that just isn't seeing nearly as much traffic as this forum today and this is specific to V4. Anyway... I'm contemplating a new build for V4 but don't know which way to go re: Ryzen or i7 (or wait for i9). Are there any V4 beta testers/developers that can offer some insight?

Guru 3D has a review of the new i5-8600k: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/intel_core_i5_8600k_processor_review,1.html. As you would expect, single core performance and IPC appear to be almost identical to the 8700k. Overclocking potential is very good and performance in games mostly matches the 8700k. All this for 100 UK pounds less than the 8700k. The new gaming king?

I've had my MSI system about one month now. It has performed excellently, my specs are in my signature. Compact and quiet, I've burned it in for over one hundred hours and have never had a lockup. Priced at about one thousand it was a balanced system between the lower end systems and the upper echelon gaming systems. Specifically engineered for simulations, it has offered smooth performance in both P3dV4 and Xplane11 (check out my videos in the videos forum). It boots from a cold start in about ten to fifteen seconds, ready for sign in. I run legacy VBA apps I have written. The UIEngine Valley benchmark yields 70 fps at max resolution and settings. I have long…

  8. Hi all I've been a member of AVSIM for a long time, I don't remember exactly when I joined but it was in like 2002 I believe, anyway FS9 is the last real SIM I dug my claws into & once FS X came out I gave up on simming completely as my system just couldn't handle it & I was barely getting 30 fps on FS9 as it was... I've since then upgraded my system (2016) & was looking at rekindling my love for the hobby & am trying to decide between Prepair 3d or Xplane 11, what I need is advice on my rig, I'll be honest with you I fired up FSX on it & all maxed out I was barely getting more than 10 fps, I couldn't believe my eyes... Here's what I hav…

Hi Guys, My C Drive is a 119GB SSD and it's in the red with only 10GB of space left. I want to get a higher capacity one, so is it possible to transfer all the data, including the O/S from one to another. All my flight sim stuff is on my E Drive with plenty of space left. I am on Windows 7 64bit Home premium . Do you think I should move to Windows 10 64 bit. I have just upgraded my MOBO, CPU and GPU. I keep getting messages saying that I can't get anymore Windows updates. Cheers, Neil

Hi, I am finally thinking of upgrading to P3D V4 from FSX regular. My current specifications are below: Intel Core i7-4790K Haswell Quad-Core 4.0GHz LGA 1 overclocked to 4.8 8GB RAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) EVGA GEFORCE GTX770 PCIE 316.69 316.69 2GB GDDR5 DP HDMI DVI 7010MHZ WITH ACX COOLER Windows 7 64-bit 850 EVO 1-gb SD drive I am thinking of adding another 8GB of RAM to total of 16 GB. Is this a worthwhile upgrade, is it worth while upgrading to 32GB or should I consider upgrading my rig all together? Thanks

Didn't really know where to post this, so here seems as good a place as any... I'm looking to replace my old PC 2.1 speakers. These are what I've had for many years but that have finally died, and i want something that produces better quality, response AND quantity;-) (RMS output) https://www.cnet.com/products/creative-i-trigue-3400-pc-multimedia-speaker-system-dark-blue/specs/ These are the kind of thing I want. Being Corsair, these got mostly fantastic reviews, but are now quite old, discontinued and, although still available at some places, the sub-woofer is just too big for space. http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/gaming-audio-series-sp2500-high-…

I am interested in overclocking my 4720hq from base speed to 3.5GHz. I tried to use Intel XTU, but it didnt change anything. Can someone tell me where I can find information how to overclock ? And since FSX/P3D are still primarily based on single core performance, will it be more benifical to do a single core OC ? will this reduce the overall CPU temp ? It was also recommended to use thermal paste to help with cooling. How often does the paste have to be reapplied ?

Hello guys. I'm planning to do an upgrade: right now I have an almost-4-years-old i7 4770K (never overclocked), an ASUS Z87-PRO mobo and 8GB of RAM DDR3. I will keep my videocard as it is an MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X which I bought less than a year ago. I was thinking about an i7 7700K, 16GB RAM DDR4 and a fancy ASUS ROG Motherboard (Maximus Hero, most likely), but I've been keeping track of the upcoming i7 8700K (October 5th). I understand it is too soon and not possible to come to any conclusion yet, but just wanted some advice. I could do the upgrade this week but prefer to wait until the 8700K is released for two reasons: first, to see if the upgrade directly to it is wor…

Yesterday I've got the components for my new PC delivered and after a couple of hours I was ready to fire it up, but it wont start. The lights go on, the fans start to spin, but that's all. After testing components (which all seem to be fine) and several hours of Googling, I found what the problem is: The Z170 BIOS, on motherboards that are sold to work with Kaby Lake CPUs, need a BIOS update before it will work. From what I can find, I would need a Skylake CPU to do the update and then switch to the Kaby Lake, but who is gonna spend a couple of 100 bucks for a CPU that will be replaced after 5 minutes of use? I dont see this as a reasonable solution, to be honest. …

I have to replace my work-PC and the new one will be different than my flightsim-PC, but of, more or less, comparable power and now I'm not sure which PC to use for general work and which one for flying. My current flightsim-PC: Intel i7-4790k @ 4.7GHz, Asus Z-97Pro Gamer, DDR3 @ 2400MHz My new PC: Intel i7-7700 @ 4.2GHz (standard turbo, I cant say anything about OC yet), MSI Z170A MPOWER GAMING TITANIUM, DDR4 @ 2400MHz Everything else is interchangeable, so my question is about the components mentioned. Which of those basic setups would be best for flying?

I have a 4770k running 4.5 GHz stable (not quite a low temperature, but some 20 degrees away from throttling at the worst), 4 cores, without HT, in an ASUS motherboard. Also a 1080 FTW from EVGA connected to a 4k screen. I managed to set the screen to 30 Hz and together with the internal VSync & Triple Buffering of P3D v4 the result is pretty smooth provided that the frame rate does not go below the 20ies (pretty much perfect whenever it reaches and stays at 30). Using a hardware diagnosis program I noticed that the 1080 is the bottleneck within my system, whilst the 4770k will run with an average of 2 cores at 100% load the 1080 will run most of the time during …
