Oops! Anyone know if the USB3 header on the motherboard can be replaced at a sensible price? I knew it might happen while trying to straighten a crushed pin but I still swore pretty heavily;) Funny thing is, both usb3 ports still appear to function normally.

  5. Good afternoon folks, I have a small doubt about RAM memory. I am planning to upgrade my PC by the end of this month, so I'd bemoving from a 4770K (never overclocked) to an 8700K which I plan to overclock using a Corsair H100i v2. The mobo would be most likely an ASUS Maximus X Hero (WiFi). My real doubt comes to the RAM memory: I was thinking about the Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz, CL15 (CMK16GX4M2B3200C15), but its description reads "Designed for high-performance overclocking on Intel 100 Series motherboards", while the 8th-Gen Maximus X Hero belongs to the 300 Series. Would I possibly have compatibility issues or is that information merely…

On a desktop (not a laptop) I am going to clone my old HDD over to a new SSD. I know how to do that: Clone the HDD (lets say this HDD has logical drives C: and D: on it) to the SSD. Remove the HDD. Move the SSD to the computer slot where the HDD used to be. And boot up the system as normal. What I need to know is what to do next to put the HDD back in the computer as a second physical drive. It will still have the same logical drive letters as the SSD, which would conflict wouldn'tit? i.e. both the SSD and HDD will have logical drives C: and D: on them. I don't know how to tell the system to tell the logical drives apart from o…

So I purchased an i7 7700K and a Z270 MB for a new build but still in component form. Now I see the i7 8700K and am thinking to maybe just sell the boxed 7700K/Z270 MB and start with this so at least I get a great new machine well into the future. Opinions? Shez

hello just had I believe a WD Black 4 TB Hd failure, it is showing in the bios but not seen in win10 disk management, I have removed the drive placed it in HD station ,but all I get is a few clunks no sound/vibrations etc of the disk spinning it seems to be dead, this is the 2nd WD "TB HD that has failed on me inside of 4 yrs,so dont think I will replace with WD anylonger, it has only been used for storing mainly Flightsim downloads, so nothing that is really important, but it will take a long time to replace/locate the content ,so the question does anyone know of a magic solution to get this thing running, just long enough to allow me to move those Downloads I want to ke…

  11. Does a M.2 NVMe PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive really make a difference in P3Dv4 or other flight simulators? They are about $150 more expensive for a 1TB, and I'm just not sure if the cost is worth it. Anyone compared them in a flight simulator environment to see what the difference really is. Thanks for your input. Bill

I see on the spec for this chip that it is rated at 3.7 base clock and overclock of 4.7. So my question is this, is the 4.7 turbo built in to the chip and that is what Intel is guaranteeing as the overclock with no de-lid? I am just trying to figure out if I will de-lid or even if I need to. Quite honestly 4.7 is probably fine for me and if I can avoid the risk of delid all the better. I will be going with a AIO water cooler.

  13. Hi Folks, Putting together a new build - while my 2700K served me faithfully and well - it's looking forward to retirement... So - I've been down this path a few times and I've always kind of wondered just how much performance a high quality mobo buys you over a middle of the road mobo... Is it performance or strictly features (better bios - better sound) ? I have the top end MSI (Z270 GAMING PRO CARBON) in my cart and I plan on using the 7700K CPU - then I noticed they also have the Z370 chipset out - so is moving up a generation really going to help that much ? Any input welcome... Thanks... Regards, Scott

  15. Hi all, I'm relatively new to flight simming and started with my very low end home pc (i3 4130 with gtx750ti). I have since upgraded my GPU, CPU, PSU, RAM basically everything with the exception of the mobo to something slightly better. I'm running i7 4770k and a gtx 980. I've just got a gigabyte ga-z97p-d3 mobo and a corsair hyper 212x with the intention of performing a mild overclock. My question is would I need to do a fresh install of all my scenery, aircrafts and utilities or is there a simpler method. I have installed several add ons, over 190gb worth and dread the idea of having to install them all over again. Also what are the licensing implications, I know f…

Hi, Does anyone know if there is a release date of the next gen of nvidia gpu cards. I plan on upgrading my gpu and possibly a new mobo next year, but don't want to go out and buy a 1080ti and then find a few weeks later a new card comes out. Which has happened to me with older generation cards. Also if I get a 1080ti do i have to upgrade to windows 10, I'm currently running win7 pro 64bit Thanks,

  18. As we all know , coffee lake architecture is ready to release in October with 6 Core 12 Thread, which is named in i7-8700K. Compared to i7-4790k(4 Core 8 Thread),is it necessary to take i7-8700K instead of i7-4790K to get more improvement for P3D V4,especially in complex scenery and PMDG running condition? And how about i5-8600K?(6 Core 6Thread) Thanks for your suggestion. Yang.

  19. Just looking at a new build cost and the cost of the 1080Ti is over $1000 CDN. Totally nuts. Just wondering how important it is vs. the regular 1080 ? And given that new Nvidia cards are about to launch are we all better off waiting knowing the price will drop when these new cards come to market? thanks.

Hi, soon my new components for the new rig will arrive. Therefore I need your tips, how to configurate the harddrives. I got 2x (same) SSD and one 1TB HDD. I will install win on the SSD for sure. Can anyone tell me, how to deal with the 2 SSD's? Is it possible to connect them to 1 big harddrive on which I can install win and p3dv4? What would you do? :)

I would like to ask for advice, I would like to buy the new i7-8700K with mother board Z370 Asus Rog Strix, 16GB ram and ssd dedicated to the sim and graphics card geforce nvidia 1070ti. With this hardware could I make the most of the processor without overclocking with P3D V4 with high settings and main addons (PMDG 737ngx and 777, Aerosoft Airbus, scenary ORBX and Aerosoft, ecc.)? Is the sim optimized to take full advantage of the processor cores? I would not do this expense and then find me with bad performance ... Thank you. Gianmarco Ragazzoni

Well, it's that time again. I just bought a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM in the chase for 'better than acceptable' FSX performance. Is it just me or does everyone else upgrade their HW every couple of years whether or not they really need to just because of FSX? Dammit, I am going to see FSX run smooth as silk at some point before I die. I've been through them all. 386s, 486s, Pentiums, Core 2 Duos, and several others that I can't remember. In the end, I'm always happy that there were major improvements, but always left wanting a better FSX experience. Despite the fact that I have been in the computer business for over 30 years, I have never bought the current generation…

Can't believe this - My i7 6700k died today:-( No idea what caused it as the cooler seems fine. Tested the CPU in another board and its definitely dead! In all my years running Intel, this has never happened before. It was overclocked, but only to 4.7MHz. Question... Is there any point putting a Kabylake in instead of a direct Skylake replacement? Anyone running a Kabylake in the Asus Z170 boards? I assume they're compatible? From what I've read so far, the differences are minimal, but thought I'd check it out on here. Having to use an old PC.
