Hi everyone, I’m after some advice for my system running P3D v3 and 4. I have a good graphics card, GTX 1080, but my CPU is an Intel Core i5 7500. I like to fly airliners like the PMDG 777, 747 and FSLabs A320 and use payware airfields. No matter what I try with the settings I just can’t get the sim to run smoothly. It can get so bad that I can’t hand fly the aircraft as the FPS are incredibly low. I’ve been considering upgrading my CPU to an i7 7700k. I’m not very experienced with computers so if anyone with more knowledge could tell me if they think upgrading my CPU will help with performance I would be very grateful. Many thanks. Robo777.

Hi all, I have been having problems with my PC running FSX recently. I had been running the CPU overclocked and although it was not overheating or overly overclocked (if there is such a phrase!), after having my IT friend test and look at the PC set up, he advised that as a first generation Intel i7 and a motherboard which cannot cope with what I require, he advised it may be best to replace. He advised me of 3 Novatech motherboard bundles and told me to ask you guys out there, the FSX users, which would be best. Obviously I expect the most expensive and powerful to be best, but what I don't want to do is pay for something which would be overkill. The options he sugg…

What do you guys recommend in terms of overclocking solely for P3D v4.1? I use it together with a 240 water cooler (four fans in push-pull config) and a Maximus X Hero with G.Skill 3600. I don't care about temperatures (as long as it's not throttling), noise, consumption, etc, just want the most sustainable performance. Thanks!

I did a search and did not see where v5.2 to Samsung Magician has been released. I downloaded it yesterday and it had two firmware updates for my two M.2 NVme SSD's. I simply clicked on Update and it downloaded the firmware and installed it. Really simple operation. Here's the link - http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/magician/

Dear all, so far I have enjoyed some excellent advise on which CPU, graphics card as well as MOBO and RAM to get. This has led me to get an i5-8600k, a GTX1070 and a ASRock Z370 Taichi. Now, I’m back to inquire about a CPU cooler. From my own research it appears the CM Hyper 212 is a very successful series with tons of loyal supporters, and so I’ve been tempted to get this inexpensive cooler. Now, the 8600k should be a giveaway that I’m intending to OC, and my research has also shown me that the Hyper 212 is usually slated to be good for stock clock CPU or mild OC. I would like to OC my 8600k to 4.4GHz at least, preferably 4.8GHz. Would the Hyper 212 be sufficie…

Hi I am about to pull the trigger on this CPU for £1188. As you can see it's quite pricey. With my other upgrades I'm looking at £2600 in total. The PC in my Sig is slow especially with every slider to the right Would I see any fps gains with 14 cores at 4.5 GHz with everything maxed out?? Thanks

Hello all, Historically I've always played Flight Simulator, and then P3D, on a Macbook Pro of some sort, simply because I did not have the money to buy both a work laptop and simming computer, and naturally work always won out when it came to priorities. However, I've gotten to a point where I really do want to invest in a simming computer. I intend it to run both P3D v4 as well as the DCS series. I'm not a total novice when it comes to picking parts, and I have an idea of my budget as well as my particular needs. That said, given how finicky sims such as FS and P3D typically are, I wanted to run it down with you guys. Given my tight-ish budget, I'm opting for:…

In an effort to squeeze all that I can out of my i7-5930 (spec in my signature) I have been digging more intentionally into overclocking. While I have used the builtin ASUS UEFI overclock presets for a long time, I decided to start trying my own settings. It's never too late to teach and old dog new tricks! I eventually arrived at a 3 core ratio of 4.5 GHz with the remaining 3 cores at 4.3 GHz with a voltage of 1.350v. Stressing with ASUS' RealBench for 2 hours and all is stable. Used Prime95 for about 20 minutes, and it was stable, but CPU package temps were pretty high (~82C). Thinking I had a pretty stable O/C, I did a flight and about half way through th…

Hi, I have a gaming laptop, not the best for P3D, but still, it behaves ok. I'm currently using V4 on HDD. I wonder if installing it on the SSD will affect the performance. For example, I suffer a lot of stutters when touching down, will it be improved? Chaseplane, all the add-ons... Or only the loading will be shorter? ALSO, is it worth upgrading from 8GB RAM to 16GB?

Hello guys. Sorry if this has probably been answered before. I recenly dusted off my copy of FSX, as well as all my aircrafts add-ons, after not using them for a very long time and i'm planning to make some changes in the FSX world (mainly in the scenery area, as I feel that the ground/terrain look very dated now). I'm currently running a VAIO laptop with the following specs and was always getting steady 30fps (with traffic/AI sliders set to minimum and with some fsx.cfg/NVIDIA Inspector tweaks) with REX Overdrive (with no detailed HD clouds), PMDG 747/MD11 and no other complex scenery add-on: CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM (2.00 GHz / 2.90 GHz Turbo Boost, 4 c…

Hello, I am planning to order another CyperpowerPC computer build (I did one about 6 years ago) for use for P3DV4. Here are the specs without any upgrades: Windows 10 Home Intel® Core™ Processor i7-8700K GeForce® GTX 1080 Ti 11GB GDDR5X 16GB ADATA XPG Z1 3000MHz RAM CyberpowerPC Z370 SLI Xtreme ATX RGB Motherboard 250GB WD Blue M.2 SATA SSD 2TB SATA3 7200 RPM HD Cooler Master MasterBox 5t Gaming Case I was going to add the overclocking they provide (30%) and looking at a 500GB SSD instead of the 250GB. I think it comes with a 800 watt PSU. So my question is, are there any upgrades that I should do now so that I do not h…

Hello all, Previously I had posted to ask for advice on CPU and graphics card (recap: ended up getting the i5-8600k and the GTX1070, thanks for the advice!), and while in the meantime I had continued choosing components, I feel I need some additional guidance choosing the right motherboard. This is a component that I'm particularly unfamiliar with, being a long-time Mac user, and so a helping hand would be great. I currently I have my eye on the ASRock Z370 Pro4. It gets good overall reviews and is not expensive, while still seemingly having all the ports and connectors that I would need to complete my build and leave a little room to upgrade if need be. I'm not…

Fancy bypassing the crazy pricees of graphics cards? Aren't bothered about building yourself? NZXT Will build a PC for you and the good bit is that the prices are MSRP! https://www.nzxt.com/bldnow After you have picked your price range, it even tells you what to expect regarding frame rate in your favourite games. Only trouble is, a limited range of components at present.

So I overclocked my 8700K to 4.8 at 1.28 volts...which I later started to decrease down to 1.27 and then 1.26. Ram overclocked using XMP to 3000 (not really overclocked as this is what the ram is rated for). 1080Ti unchanged. Board is a Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 5. Ever since I have all kinds of weird things happening in P3D v4.1. Blurry ground textures, aircraft menus don't always work, FSUIPC and GSX control panels will not open, etc, etc. Sometimes everything works perfectly ,other times not. I have since lowered by overclock to 4.7 and increased the voltage to 1.29. I strongly suspect that my overclock is unstable. So what are the suggestions from the exp…

Hello there fellow simmers. I seek advice from you all about which upgrade routes I should take. Current system: Mobo: ASUS Maximus VII Formula Z97 CPU: Intel 4790k Devil's Canyon RAM: 16GB G.Skill PC3 DDR1600 (Might soon move this up to 32GB) GPU: MSI GTX670 x2 in SLI, 2GB RAM each Hard Drive: Samsung 850 Evo 1TB SSD My system is starting to show its age with my graphics card setup. I last built this system in 2014. I was thinking is it worth it to upgrade to something nice like a GTX 1080? Should I go with one GPU or is SLI worth it? Or should I just wait until I do another full system upgrade (Mobo, RAM, CPU etc) Main p…

Hi everyone, I have an i7 3.4G Sandybridge overclocked to 4.4G on an ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe (LGA 1155). I have been overclocked to 4.0G, but have been pushing it up to 4.4G recently using the ASUS tool. Recently, I am experiencing complete system crashes and not in MSFS or in P3Dv4, but in regular MS Office applications (e.g. Outlook) and MS Edge. I mean hard crashes where the monitor goes goofy and the speakers make noise or the program window go all white and becomes unresponsive. Also, I have been experiencing random hard computer shutdowns and re-starts for no apparent reason. I'm in the process of troubleshooting and would like to know whether any of…

After de-lidding and overclocking my i77700k, followed by installing a custom water cooling loop, I think I’m finally finished testing. I’ve also applied and, I think understand, how to use Intel SpeedStep, combined with Adaptive and Offset cpu Voltages’. Now, when the PC is idling, or under very light load, which is at least half of most days (PC on about 16hrs a day), the frequency backs right down to just 800MHz with vcore at only 0.667volts. The cpu core temps hardly climb above ambient under these conditions. Hopefully, these components might last a bit longer than my normal overclocked bits which, even when dialed back, were previously supplied by manual and fixe…

I've purchased 4 of these gems. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4RE50A5741 The lazy comment was in jest (hopefully no one was offended) ... but if you have a disability or feeling old and slow (like me) or have your PC(s) tucked away out of reach, then a remote power button to the rescue and it includes HDD activity light. Probably about time I posted something "less expensive" and shrugged that title of Elitist ... maybe? Cheers, Rob.
