For a couple of personal reasons I am looking into getting a laptop than can run P3D (and potentially other games) well. I haven't used P3D before as I am an FSX user looking to make the jump across. The laptop would be hooked up to a display occasionally but I will prob only run it at 1080P max, not really interested in 4K or QHD. I usually run payware airport scenery, PMDG/Aerosoft/QW, Activesky, Orbx Global & Vector, Ai traffic package. Would the below be suitable? 8GB RAM version is a bit cheaper but I've read 16GB is recommended for P3D 4.2 https://www.scan.co.uk/products/156-asus-rog-strix-gl502vm-fy172t-fhd-g-sync-i7-7700hq-16gb-ddr4-256gb-m2-sa…

Hi, I’m new. I’d want to build a new P3d pc. I’m running it on a laptop but I don’t get nice results with the pmdg 777. My ideal pc would be this: I7-8700k Asus Z370 F Gtx 1080ti 32gb ram at 3200mhz corsair hydro 150i pro Corsair Rm1000x 970pro 512 gb for os 1 tb 860 evo for P3d 500gb 860 evo for other games and apps. Acer 27 g-sync 144hz What did you think about it? In the future I also want to build a 777 home cockpit.

Fellow sim squad, Currently I’m running FSX SE on the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (all sliders to the left) at around 25fps with UK2000 scenery and FTX global, OpenLCEU and Soft clouds with the QW757 in VC. Not bad at all considering this is a tablet PC with intel 430 graphics and 1.9Ghz on the CPU. Great for when I am away from home or in the living room and want to make a flight. (My flight sim PC is on the attic). Yet, the 3 year old SP3 has its limitations and running anything other then the QW 757 is a nightmare. And the wife needs a simple PC for herself and never bought any hardware. So I’m thinking of buying a 7700HQ cpu based lappie with a GTX1060 or 107…

Hi! I want to migrate to P3dv4 from FSX, but Mrs HomoPrintus will not be very happy, if I'll spend a ton of money to buy new PC. Right now I have I7-2600K, 8GB RAM, GTX550 Ti (1GB) and 2TB HDD. Now I get 15 FPS in P3D v4 without any eye-candy addons. So I have 2 questions and hope for your help: 1) Doing stage-by-stage upgrade, where should I start - buy new GPU, or SSD, or CPU? 2) My motherboard only support PCI-E 2.0, would it damage the perfomance of new GPU (I want to go to 1070, for example)? Thanks in advance!

Hello, I'm looking to get a laptop for FSX or P3D, can anyone recommend a good laptop to run FSX or P3D with addons such as the 737NGX, PMDG777, Aerosoft Airbus X, Orbx Global, Open LC Europe and other payware airport sceneries at 25+ FPS for under £1000. Thanks

  11. I'm considering to sell the desktop computer and replace it with 8550U/16GB(DDR4-2400 Dual-ch). Also I'll buy Thunderbolt 3 eGPU kit and GTX 1080TI for desktop for connecting to that laptop. The performance of I7-8550U about the same performance as 7700HQ(=desktop 4790). The performance hit of TB3 eGPU is about 20-30% when using laptop's display and the fps is high. If using 4K external monitor, the performance hit is lower than 10% even when using GTX 1080TI. Also I think P3D doesn't really use multicore much, even V4. Also I saw 4790K(stock clock) has near fps compared to 8700k(stock clock), so even IPC/clock difference on CPU seems not to affect P3D v4 …

  12. Folks, Is there a hard and fast rule for the number of additional .1gHz of overclocking that equals the number of FPS increase. For example - 6700K at say 4.5gHZ runs at x number of FPS, and for every .1 increase, how much that amounts to in additional FPS? Trying to decide if it's worth an upgrade from a 6700K at 4.8 to an 8700K at 5.2 as well. Thanks in advance for any input.

Hi all I am currently having a broadband outage whilst BT Openreach decides when they're going to connect my new home to the telecom infrastructure! (Order placed December 2017, what fun). This seems like a good time to consider a system re-build to enable an upgrade from FSX:SE to P3Dv4 as that seems to be where the future of Flight Sim is heading. I want to be able to run the FSLabs Airbus (and upcoming Concorde) comfortably, with weather addons, scenery and all the mod cons you'd expect along with VATSIM event traffic AI. Currently I have an i5 3570k 3.40GHz processor with a liquid cooling system, 12gb RAM, an SSD hard drive and a Nvidia GTX 760. What do I ne…

  15. I have been slowly upgrading my older PC to achieve better FPS and quality on a retirees funding and found myself debating my next steps. As it would basically be a hardware choice I contacted the original builders of the PC and requested a recommendation. This I then posted to Tom's Hardware who are usually sensible people around hardware which resulted in the below thread. If any of you have the time to process and maybe give me some pointers from a FSX POV |I would appreciate it as I am currently not able to get much above 15/20 FPS average and usually about 5 FPS at airports and with graphics at normal or below. Hi I'm looking for a PC, as I am running FSX on a Laptop (Intel 3 Core is surprisingly ok!). I fly around Heathrow a lot and only get 8-10fps I was wondering what kind of PC I would need to get around 15-20fps. I am not looking at running anything super demanding, only Ultimate terrain X and Ground Environment X with some Aerosoft airbus/PMDG. My budget is around £500-£1000, looking forward to some responses. Plus for the future is ORBX laggy? Things I'm gonna run ================== PMDG, Aerosoft Airbus, Quality wings, Captain Sim UTX & GEX FSXWX (free weather program) Ultimate traffic live ========== SunSkyJet ====…

Only ONE degree warmer compared to IC Diamond. And I guess Diamond is about one or two degrees away from the very best non- liquid metal pastes.

  20. Hello everyone, the question isn't as obvious as the title may imply. My Phenom 2 X4 975 was an insanely lucky chip. Its been overclocked for 6 years at stock voltage and runs 4,2 Ghz 100% stable. I love it, but time goes on and the power consumption as well as the heat radiation of the chip is a bit on the high side for todays standards. Also, i suffer from the typical performance shortages that AMD systems show with FSX addons like the Aerosoft Airbus. Now i have an opportunity to upgrade to a 6700k at a low price, since I basically would need a new MoBo and new RAM as well. That the 6700k would completely outperform the stock 975 is out of question, but …

I just built a new flight sim rig around an i7 8700K CPU and an ASUS Maximus X Hero motherboard. For cooling I am using a Corsair H105 liquid cooler. Memory is 16GB of DDR4 3200. I am running this on Win 10 Home. I watched some YouTube videos on overclocking and use one by a young German named der8auer. Using his advice and instructions I was able to OC to 5.0 GHz. I am happy with this. I did not try any stress testing. I don't care if it lasts 8 or 24 hours under 100% load. All I care about is its performance in PD3 V4. I did my version of stress testing by loading up Iris's PC-21 and flying out of John Wayne Airport in Orange County CA. I run ORBX Global, Vect…

  24. A few months back I posted about temps higher than I'd like when running P3D -- usually mid-to-high 70s C, but with spikes to up to 84C under certain conditions. At the time, I decided to just live with it. I was using a mobo-standard 4.6 GHz profile for my 6700k, with HT on. Voltages set to auto in bios. Noctua NH-D15S for air cooling. I figured the auto voltages were probably overdoing things a bit, which accounted for the heat, although I did notice that P3D ran about 10C hotter than even other demanding programs. Even RealBench topped out at about 79C running a stress test. Oh well, I thought. After putting my system in a new case (Fractal R6) and with a new PSU …
