Hi folks, My rig has an NF750-G55 Mobo and an AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz CPU. GPU is a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. 8 GB RAM. I built the rig 8 years ago before I knew anything about what FSX demands from a PC. I know the CPU is pretty much the weak link for performance in FSX. What I'm wondering is; Can I just upgrade to a new mobo and cpu? I don't want to do an entirely new build if I can just upgrade those two things. My current rig does "okay" but I would like higher quality graphics and better performance, especially with payware planes. I'm thinking maybe I can just get an i5 cpu and a new mobo and use everything else I already h…

This upcoming game looks exciting - http://www.techspot.com/news/68537-someone-has-created-pc-building-simulator-game.html. Wonder how many points are knocked off if you forget the Motherboard or the CPU. Although what I'm saying might be a bit of tongue-in-cheek, the simulator might help some learn how to build a PC. Maybe. Best regards, Jim

HI gang, My old Celeron (Yes, it's that old) finally died, I'm just a casual FSX/FS9 simmer but hate buying off the rack. HDs, case, power supply are all fine, I'm just using this as an excuse to upgrade my MB/CPU/RAM/Video card. Suggestions to do this in the 5-700 range, please? TIA

Looking for recommendations for a USB headset (with mic). I have a Corsair wireless headset that I dislike immensely... Although the sound quality is good, they are way too big and heavy. Also, they do nothing, or very little, to block out external sounds. Do I need something listed as 'noise cancelling' for that, or is that something different altogether? Not willing to pay more than about £100GBP. There appears to be quite a lot available in the £40-£60 bracket.

Folks, Quick question. Is it worthwhile to upgrade my rig? My current setup is a s follows: 6700K @ 4.8GHZ GTX1070 16GB of RAM P3DV4.2 Would I see an appreciable gain in performance by moving to an 8700K and a 1080Ti, or should I keep the rig I have for another year or so? Thanks in advance for any advice!

  6. Apparently Intel is looking at using the integrated GPU in their 6th/7th/8th gen CPUs to carry out antivirus scanning. They say that this should reduce the CPU load to as little as 2%. See: https://www.tweaktown.com/news/61583/intel-offloads-virus-scanning-gpus-lowers-cpu-usage/index.html

Hi folks, It seems there's a real shortage of Corsair PSUs at the moment as I was originally going to go with the RM850x, but it doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere at all. I'm building a Aorus z370 MOBO/GTX1080ti/i7-8700K overclock setup, and just wanted to know if I could get away with the cheaper CX850M, which is in stock, or whether it's really necessary to go for the RM850i (also in stock). I cannot, despite research, for the life of me see the difference, except something to do with the RM being modular - is that really important? Cheers folks

I have a 4th gen Intel I-4790 @3.60GHz and I have a GTX 745 in my computer. I usually get around 15fps in P3D V4 at daytime at payware airports. I would like to know if it would be more beneficial to upgrade to an i7-8700k or get a new graphics card (i.e.GTX 1080). Also, budget is not an issue for this question. Any help would be much appreciated, Thank You!

just bought y520 few days ago and I was testing with p3d v4. installed asp4 , went to graphic setting minimal as possible gpu temperature shows less than 60 degrees, cpu less than 65, all graphic features to off, and set vsync ON. about noise level , on y520, tested on maximize graphic card setting to HIGH, then there was noise coming from fan, but if you set to less than MED settings, there wont be much problem coming noise from the fan , so you will be doing fine. I really recommend , must upgrade to 32gb ram and nvme sdd.

I'm looking to upgrade my rig to perform better. Currently running the specs below and achieving around 15-20Fps in high density environments. Already use a scenery config tool in order to make sure the system only runs what I ask it to. Defrag done recently. Running PMDG products well enough but could be better. Aerosoft/ORBX airports are where we have the issue, especially on takeoff/landing etc. What should I look at upgrading as priority? For the record, I know that FSX is outdated and buggy. Not looking for any "upgrade to P3D" advice. Just want to get FPS looking more like 30-40. Processor: i5-2500K 3.3 GHz overclocked to 4.3 GHz Video card: …

Hi all, I'm looking to stick my current build in a new case in the next few months. The case I'm using now is already 7 years old and it's time for a change (also a fresh PSU!). I'm mostly looking for solid cooling (I'm using a Noctua NH D15S for CPU air cooling) and enough space to make working inside the case less stressful than my past experience has usually been. (I've been using a Corsair Carbide 400R.) The less silly features (e.g. colored LEDs) the better. Thanks in advance for any recommendations! James

To what configuration is it worth upgrading - my budget is $1000 for CPU, MOBO, GPU and RAM. Thanks

I have a single 22.5" 1080p monitor at the moment, which I'm hoping to relegate to a second monitor that I'll just run desktop apps and video on whilst I game. I'm proposing my new main monitor as 27" 1440p. Specs: [email protected] o/c, 16GB DDR3 RAM and GTX980 4GB. I plan to play P3Dv4, Planet Coaster, Cities Skylines, GTAV and perhaps some driving like Project Cars 2, Forza 7 etc, in addition to normal productivity stuff like Photoshop, Word, Excel. My rig is fairly smooth on 1080p with most sliders right providing I don't go nuts with dynamic lights and anti-aliasing, it sometimes bogs down a bit in multiplayer with heavy weather around my addon airports. 15. I am having all kinds of issues with this combination of chip and board...particularly when it comes to overclock. 1) All of my attempts at overclocking have failed....very unstable P3D. I have reverted back to stock....which I am ok with. 2) But even at stock settings, by cpu clock speed on core 1 (or zero, not sure), I cannot get the chip to overclock to 4.7 as it is supposed to. It is stuck at 4.3. Just wondering if you have this combination could you share your settings? Thanks.

I'm confused about my page file. It says it's 1.6GB (but system managed). This is for my C: which contains my OS. I play P3D and XP11 on my B: which is my SSD. This drive has the option select for "no page file" Is that correct? Do I only need it for the C drive? And also being that I've now got 16GB of RAM, should I set the page file on C (or B) drive to something larger?
