Hi. I'm thinking of getting a new laptop for p3d because my current one does not do the frame rates very well. I have been told in the past that the most important thing to think about for p3d is the CPU speed, rather than the graphics card . can I ask if that is correct? I have seen a new laptop which looks good, but I would really like people's opinion on it: CPU (Processor): Intel® Core™ i7-8700 - 6-Core 3.20GHz, 4.60GHz Turbo - 12MB Cache + UHD Graphics Motherboard: Intel Z370 Chipset Motherboard Memory (RAM): 32GB (8GBx4) DDR4/2400Mhz SODIMM Memory (ADATA) Graphics Card (GPU): NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1080 8GB Video Card (Pascal)[VR Ready] …

Hi everyone! I'm fairly new with the whole computer gaming scene and am a college student who owns a Asus with Intel HD 4000 graphics so I'm unable to really enjoy gaming to its fullest potential. I want to keep that laptop for doing my research, reports, etc. My question is what would be an excellent gaming laptop with top specs and the price isn't too much of an issue. I've done some self research so far, but every comparison top 10 list is different. What I've gathered so far being worthwhile seems to be; MSI GT70, Alienware M17 or 18, Maingear Nomad 17. Any suggestions? Regards, Annederrickd

Hi all, I'm thinking to purchase a laptop for fsx/p3d with pmdg777 or aerosoft A320, woai, some airport from aerosoft. I had bought 2 laptop in core i5 and i7 but the fps is very low (about 17-25). So I decide to buy a laptop gaming and hope improve fps. I am building a new gaming pc that will be used in part for FSX, other steam games / software, and possibly X-Plane or P3D if I decide to switch. I am wondering how to organize the installs of the flight sims, their addons, and the other games onto one or more storage devices. I do not expect to fill more than 1TB of storage over the life of the computer. Should I have one SSD for all flight sims? Should FSX go on a smaller SSD independent of everything else? Should addons be on the same drive as the sim? Can the sims go on the boot drive?

Hi, I`m planning to get a new PC for simming next month after the new GPUs are out (I´ll get a 1180 if the miners leave some) and I was pretty much decided for an i7-8700K at 3.7Ghz but then I saw many simmers with an i7-7820X 3.6Ghz. And now I`m not sure which one is best for P3D4 and XP11, having in mind that I fly in VR only. Then I saw that the i9 9900k is coming by the end of the year, but that one (guessing) will be around the 1000 euros range, right? that´s too much for me... Any help on which processor is better without having to sell my car? cheers Carlos

  7. I am building a new gaming pc (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JGYYQZ), and I am choosing many of the parts based on optimizing performance in FSX with the assumption of simultaneous addon aircraft, scenery, and weather being used. Based on NickN's FSX bible, CPU choice should be the latests and fastest i7 processor if possible. Currently that is the Intel Core i7 8700K or Intel Core i7 8086K. The 8086K is $70 US more, but guarantees an extra 0.3 GHz. I have the budget for either. If I want to maximize the chance that I will have at least 30 fps during final approach and flare in an addon airliner landing at addon scenery in bad weather generated by REX, do you think I will…

I'm looking to build a 3rd, rack-mounted, networked PC with a solid, unlit, motherboard. It'll be the P3Dv4 server PC. The other two PCs are i7-4770K and i7-4790K. I am thinking OC-ready i7 or i9 CPU, so the motherboard needs to support overclocking as well. Any suggestions? I expect to spend in the neighborhood of $2,000 - $3,000. Thanks much.

So on my quest to finding myself the perfect p3d budget pc, I managed to find a dirt cheap rx 580, costing similarly to a GTX 1050ti and I couldn't pass. I'm going to pair it with an i5 8600(k) (will not overclock for the first few months, until I gain confidence). My question is, would it perform in between the gtx 1060 and 1070??

My PCs are in 4U rackmount cases. I’ve not found a water cooling CPU cooling solution for this situation (radiators too large) so my i7-4770K and i7-4790K CPUs rely on fans and fins. I’m looking at adding a third PC to my networked system. Poking around here seems to suggest waiting for an i9-9700K or i9-9900K CPU and mobo. If I’m constrained to a non-water cooled solution, how limited will I be in overclocking the CPU? Thanks.

I am looking at upgrading my Haswell 4770K system with a new i7-8086K cpu plus suitable MB and new ram. I plan to retain my Coolermaster HAFX case and would, for the sake of simplicity, prefer to keep my Corsair H90 cpu cooler but unsure of if it will be compatible with the LGA 1151v2 socket. Advice on this would be appreciated. Thank you. Bruceb

I just received my new PC from PortaTech. I chose MOB ASRock Z370 and i7 8700K for CPU Both Windows 10 system and Bios indicates that CPU is at 3.7GHz. On Purchase it said 4.7GHz That probably means I have to overclock I do not feel comfortable doing that from what I read. Any guidance from the experts will be so helpful. Any references, links? Much appreciated Bill Hagag

With minimum requirements moving on, and a sometimes expensive price for hardware compared to what your money can buy in some modest cases going for 2nd hand hardware is not a bad idea. However, it doesn't mean it will perform bad or good.I made a list about hardware, that you guys could be helpful by telling if :1)it works.2)how it is compared to modern equivalents,3) if it's worth the shot. I took LM's recommended settings in consideration for this list so it makes the job easier: 1)CPU -old i5s (prior to 6th gen) -any form of RYZEN (3.5.8) -i7 920 to 3770k (specify) -xeon even dual socket (specify) -non k modern intel (specify)…

Hey friends of avsim forums, I'm planning build a new PC for running P3D v3.2 at first place and I'm watching in youtube a lot of videos about comparisons, I'm interesting in I3 8350K vs I7 7700K processor due to the first one has almost the same performance than second one obviously working along a strong GPU 1070 or 1080. I have a question about cores and threads, How many cores need P3D for running properly?. the I3 costs half price than I7 so I can take advantage and get a 1080.

  18. Anyone tried P3D V4 with one of these? https://www.engadget.com/2018/04/10/intel-hades-canyon-nuc-review/?guccounter=1 Anyone using P3D V4 with a mini PC if not the Nuc?

Have had a perfectly working i5-2500k powered Windows 7 Pro 64-bit oc'kd to 4.3GHz for months now, until last night when I uninstalled the new crap Firefox Quantum with the intention to revert to the older Firefox 54. Upon re-boot, I got the expected POST beep, and got the BIOS splash screen, the got to the logon screen, but after that all that displayed was the mouse arrow and black screen. After re-booting again and getting an overclock failed flag on the POST screen, through the Asus BIOS, I went back to default settings, but still nothing other than that mouse arrow despite leaving the PC on for hours, re-seating the 8Gb OCZ RAM sticks. Initially I thought maybe…

  21. Since cpu's seem to have hit a max Hz limit, I'm guessing the only way we will see powerful performance applied to our sim's is a grand change to the sim code itself. Code that takes full advantage of multiple cores instead of relying heavily on cpu frequency. I'm doubting this will ever happen in our old age lifetimes, thoughts if hardware limited frame rate will ever be solved?

  23. Right now my laptop (specs in signature, or here https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-Vivobook-X556UQ/specifications/) has 6 GB of RAM, divided this way: - 4 GB soldered on board - 2 GB on a stick. I guess is DDR4 2133 MHz, based on the specs. My idea is to upgrade the RAM (the only thing left for upgrade on my laptop), but I'm not sure what to do, if replacing the 2GB stick with a 4 GB, 8 GB or even 16 GB one. Right now, this is what I run on my laptop: - FS9 (with the iFly 737 and 747v2) - FSX-SE (with the iFly 737 and Aerosoft Airbus) - PF3 ATC, with any of the sims. I'm not sure if will be worthwhile going into P3D4 with m…
