For those of you that love Noctua coolers and fans but are put off because you don't like them aesthetically, namely the brown and beige, then you'll be interested in the new Chromax range. Also some nice tops for the coolers. Would be interesting to see if the tops for the coolers result in any temp reduction, given that the air that would escape around the sides is blocked. Doubt it would be much if anything. Perhaps a degree or so.

Fellow system deciders, This recent information was scattered elsewhere on different threads, but perhaps it can be best useful served more in one place. Like some I have an older system but the latest software and FS products and looking forward to a great hardware jump so I can upgrade. However, I am (personally) underwhelmed with the 7700K and 8700K marginal P3Dv4 performance improvements being reported, being a few percentage points faster at best (if any), even with many of them testing with reduced P3D settings. I had hoped and expected much better from the first hopeful rumours. Unless there is a huge surprise the new CPU performance numbers required…

Hi, This is my first post on this forum. I have been doing flight sim for over 7 years now and I am becoming more and more dissatisfied with my PC's performance on Prepar3D V3 and V4. In 2010s I used to have AMD Phenom II X4 and it was a complete disaster for FSX so I upgraded to i7 2600k, 2600k was a massive improvement but now I think it has started showing it's age with all the ORBX, PMDG, Fslabs addons. My current PC specs are : CPU - i7 2600k @ 4.4 GHz RAM - 8GB DDR3 1333MHz GPU - EVGA GTX 1070 SC 8GB HDD - 500GB I am planning to upgrade to i7 8700k. Actually I already have 8600k on order but I am planning to cancel it and go with 8700k …

So I was transporting my PC(specs in my sig) and like a knuckle head wasn't paying attention, lost my footing, and my PC took a fall from around 4 feet height right onto a concrete floor. Ugh! I thought for sure that it wouldn't even boot up anymore, being as heavy as it is and with that big Noctua heat sink attached to the MB.... But the darn thing actually booted up. Everything seemed fine at first, WIN10 loaded, P3DV4 started up no problems, and I even took the FSL320 for a spin. Started up CPU-Z and with PC at idle I noticed the multiplier wildly bouncing around from a low of 8 to high of 45 and Core Speed bouncing between 807MHz and 4599MHz. Throt…

I run with a Dell XPS 730x gaming system. It is a fabulous system, and a famous 'tank' among enthusiasts. Dell abandoned owners with in-house BIOS and system support in 2009, the same year they ended the XPS production, and started selling Alienware Systems. So, basically until a couple of really talented software engineers, who also, owning one of these stellar systems, decided to investigate whether the Alienware, Area 51 ALX system motherboard was a carry-over from Dell's best X58 chip-based XPS 730x. To their, and my delight (!!!) it was the same mother board. So in theory, a modified version for use in the Dell 730x system 'should work' if one could access the r…

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/intel-will-no-longer-disclose-multi-core-turbo-boost-frequencies.html For it's newest processors, Intel will only report the single core turbo boost frequency and not the multicore boost frequency. The i7-8700 with a base clock of 3.7 GHz has a reported turbo boost frequency of 4.7 GHz, but the 6 core frequency is only 4.3 GHz.

Hi guys, I have decided to upgrade my system as it is really pushing it to run p3d v 4.1 nicely. I would like some advice on what to upgrade first my CPU or GPU. The upgrade for the CPU I was going to choose was the core i7 4790k @ 4.0GHz. is this a good upgrade? I hope to be able to run the FS labs A320 fairly smoothly around 20fps. CPU - Intel core i5 4460 GPU - GTX 970 Thanks guys :)

Hello fellow simmers, I've been flying in flight sims since FS2000. The last sim I used was FS9. I've been away from the flight sim world since then. Now that I have some time, I thought I would get back in the air, I am confused as to which sim should I get since there are quite a few available options. I did give X-plane 11 demo a spin, but that doesnt work too well on my computer. My specs are Operating System Windows 10 Home 64-bit CPU Intel Core i7 4720HQ @ 2.60GHz 60 °C Haswell 22nm Technology RAM 8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 (11-11-11-28) Motherboard LENOVO Lenovo Y50-70 (U3E1) 65 °C Graphics Stan…

Hello, I was thinking about upgrade my mobo (that doesn't allow me to OC my CPU) but before doing that, I must choice between a 270 serie or a 370 (for an upgraade with a i7 8700k) but do you think that the i7 8700k will be better for the flight sim than what does the i7 7700K? I'm on P3D and X Plane 11 so both infos are welcome Thank you :)

I'm consider a new flight sim laptop and have a couple of questions. I'm pushing my limit on price so don't want to upgrade further unless essential. Scan Computers. 3XS LG17 Vengeance. Specs are below my questions. Thanks! Is 250gb SSD big enough for Windows 10 plus P3DV4? Leaving everything else on a 1tb hard drive? I would prefer NOT to add Nvidia Gsync for about £130. I don't currently intend using extra screens very often. Is Gsync a nice option or an essential? Scans reviews are outstanding and they are very local to me. They offer 7 day support. Does anyone have feedback on them or their laptops for FSX P3D? Overheating? Problems? I’m cur…

This is a refurbished board after I sent my 4 y/o P9X79 WS in as it finally gave up the ghost, and since installing parts into the replacement board every time I start up from cold it will keeping cycling on and off which seems like maybe it is testing different auto-configurations until it finds one that will support my default overclock which is to 4.3Ghz. The board came w/ a newer BIOS, but FWIW my old board and BIOS never did this. So boot-ups take much longer now up to 2-3 minutes, though it remains rock solid and cool at 4.3Ghz, easily o'clocks to 4.42 at 1.32v and remain cool. I looked in the motherboard manual that came w/ the board and couldn't see what might …

Hey everyone, I've noticed that my old laptop is slowly having more trouble keeping up with my simulator. I run MS FSX with PMDG 737-800, Majestic Dash 8, and ASN. The laptop has a 2.4GHZ Intel i3, 4GB of RAM, and Intel Integrated Graphics (Top notch, am I right?), but I've decided it's come time for an upgrade. I've read through quite a few guides on building your own PC in the past weeks and it's a route I'm willing to take. I have a draft list of the specs that the build would currently have, but I am open to some suggestions. So, how well do you guys thing it would run FSX + My Addons on Medium-ish settings? Processor: Intel i5 6600K (6th Gen) Quad Core, up …

Have been looking round to buy a new custom built i7 8700k system. I've found my preferred supplier, but am confused what RAM I should specify. I have the option for 16Gb or 32Gb. To future proof I'd prefer to go straight to 32Gb. The supplier can only fit 4 x 8Gb modules. Anyone know whether this would be a slower configuration than 2 x 16Gb modules?? This would be 3200 speed. Thanks Alan

Is there any way to select which cores to do the Prime95 torture test ? When I run the test, The Core0 temps are almost 10C higher that the other 3 cores, so I wanted to see how the temps are with just core 1,2 and 3 running at full speed. If it cant be done in prime95, is there any other benchmark or OC testing tool that this can be done with ?
