  1. Finally going to pull the trigger on a new FS PC. I shouldn't say PC but more specifically, new CPU, MB & RAM. Everything else will remain. Been running on this very trust worthy highly overclocked i7 2600K Sandy Bridge since March 2011, over 6yrs old. I think it's time to move on. New Specs: INTEL® CORE™ I7-7820X (8 Cores/16 Threads) Up to 4.30 GHz ASUS ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX LGA 2066 G.SKILL Trident Z Series 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz F4-3200C15Q-32GTZSW It won't be cheap but I don't upgrade every 6mos to a year. In it for the long haul.

  2. Hi, Few months ago I built a new setup, with a MSI H170 Gaming M3 + i5 6600K + GTX 1070 The thing is a this moment I didnt think about OC, now I tried (I started to fly in VR and wanted to have more power) but then I realize that a H170 MOBO can't OC my CPU So I want to change by a Z170 but to be honest I don't want to reinstall my Windows and all other stuffs, the thing is that few of my serials (for W10, addons, simus, games, ect) aren't backup, so if I reinstall, I loose a lot of stuff, I'd like to avoid that Is it possible? If yes, how can I do that? Regards

  3. Im curious if anyone has made the jump from standard SSD like the samsung 850 to an m.2 blazing fast samsung 960 or 960 pro.. and if so.. how did your load times change.. IE: did 5 minute loads become 1 minute etc? I'm on the 1TB drive.. and with tons of scenery (all enabled) it might take 6-7 minutes on a full load.. I'm debating the merits of buying one of these drives vs constantly manipulating sceneryeditor groups and simstarter profiles to break things into smaller load times.. The current retail on the 1TB is in the $419 range.. or perhaps even getting a smaller drive just to load the core / bulk of the main directory could help (i have an 850 ssd for my os …

Hello, I am planning on buying a laptop (I travel a lot) for P3D v4 from Origin PC. I don't really have a budget, and so came up with the below. Tell me what you guys think, and if there's anything that needs improving, or if you think I can save money on something. I'm not really a hardware expert which is why I'm asking. Laptop Platform: EON17-SLX Display Type: QFHD 3840 x 2160 17.3" IPS G-SYNC Display Graphic Cards: Single NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB [VR Ready] Processors: Intel Core i7 7700K Quad-Core 4.2GHz (4.5GHz TurboBoost) Memory: 32GB G.Skill Ripjaws 3000MHz (2 X 16GB) Operating System: MS Windows 10 Home M.2 SSD Op…

I was pretty amazed how still 4th generation of core i5 shows a stable 60fps. Of course, I have to turn off AI traffic and lower scenery configuation, turn AA to off FXAA OFF, for addon airports, with world and scenery HD lightning everything sets to off and scenery density set to normal. PMDG runs normal, but, I have to fly alone by myself at the airport, if I turn the AI traffic it shows a 10~15fps. also I can't use heavy addon sceneries. if I upgrade to 7th generation CPU's, it'll perform much better, but I think I am going to wait little bit more or if I can't wait then I'll just grab ryzen 7.

Ladys & Gentlemen, I'm posting this here because I know there are some very smart and experienced folks on here and I need your help. I believe my computer problem is a general issue and not related to the two programs I'm having problems with. I will explain the best I can, I'm not much of a computer guru! I recently set up a couple of internal hard drives in an external docking bay connected via usb. I did a format on them before I stared to use them. I don't seam to be having any problem with them. This is the most current change I have done with my computer. The two programs I'm having trouble with are, Spadnext and the update for REX textures.…

Hello to all. I am in the process of building a good enough rig to run X-Plane 10.51 at 1920 X 1200 resolution. Ideally all settings would be at max but since i know this is difficult i plan on compromising on shadows, reflections etc. What i will not be compromising on is the fps which i intend the figure to be >30. Anyway, my biggest dilemma lies on the CPU choice. Budget-wise i am limited so it will be one of the 2 below: - AMD Ryzen 5 1600 - INTEL i5-7600K I am no expert so i cannot easily decide. The AMD has many more threads (12 vs 4) which i read somewhere that X-plane uses a lot but the INTEL is supposedly better in single-core performance. …

Hi, As my old custom built laptop has display problems, and I was intending to replace it by a desktop anyway, now is the time. I'm on a tight budget (+- 1500€) and found this one: HP PAVILION 560-P123NB AZERTY 1399€ Intel® Core i7-7700 Processor (3,6 GHz - 4,2 GHz) 12GB DDR4 RAM (2133Mhz) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (3GB) 256 GB (SSD) + 1.000 GB (SATA (HDD), 7.200 rpm) What do you guys think. I'm currently using P3Dv4 which is, I must admit, struggling on my old laptop running minimum settings (eg. no cloud shadows and no MSAA) Another option is a custom built desktop, but when choosing the above mentioned components, but a bit fa…

  12. Hello, I was trying to disable hyperthreading on my Lenovo y50 laptop, when I found out that there is no option in the BIOS to do so. I came across other users in the lenovo forums with the same issue, Lenovo tech support's method to disable hyperthreading is to run msconfig > boot > advanced options > set no of processors to '4'. What this actually does is give me 2 physical hyperthreaded cores. I tried to explain it to the tech support guys at lenovo with proof, but they refuse to accept that their method does not work. The only option left is to somehow disable HT from outside the BIOS. Any ideas or suggestions as to how to go about it ? …

  13. For a few years I've wanted to get a Flight Simulator PC, and in a few weeks I will finally be able to buy some new parts. I was wondering if the following are still good for Flight Simulator (P3D) since the last time I asked was a while ago. So... after an eight year hiatus from flight sims, I just got great deal on a new (to me) computer. Much to my old-tech surprise, it doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. My original intent was so start cheap by using my old FSX and adding discs. But since I'd have to buy a DVD drive, would it make more sense to just pony up and start from scratch on P3D, since I will end up there anyway? I used to get satisfactory performance with FSX on my gateway P7811FX laptop (core 2 duo 2.26GHz, GTX 9800m 512MB). This computer obviously blows my old laptop out of the water, so fsx should be awesome. Then I read in the forums that P3D runs smoother with better frame rates than F…

  15. Hello fellow aviators , brothers and sisters I think the time has come to get rid of my write-off and build a new one with a sort of limited budget. First of all im planning to put an i7 7700k on a Z270 chipset MOBO which will probably be MSI Z270 SLI plus ( good price , very nice features such as SLI support) , GTX 1060 6GB 192 bit GPU (looks promising tho), 16 GB DDr4 Ram 3000MHZ, corsair liquid cooling ( just in case i get to fry the cpu during an overlock attempt lol). I'm not planning to put an SSD for now since it does not make a huge difference except for loading time. So i need the opinions of other simmers for this build and i need to know that if i…

  17. Just wondering if anyone has an opinion. I am wanting to buy a new machine for P3D but am stuck between choosing a 4 core I7 7700k @5Ghz or a 8 core I7 7820X @4.6Ghz along with 1080Ti and 16GB Ram. The I7 7700k @5Ghz build will cost £2,400 and the I7 7820X @4.6Ghz build will cost £2800 from Scan.co.uk £400 difference I have read that the 7700 is a great chip but have been reading Avsim and P3d hardware forums and it seems the newer x series processors are also very good. I have also read from Rob Ainscough that L3 Cache is important and the 7820x has 11mb were as the 7700 has 8mb. I have also read from Rob that 7900x is giving great performance too, bu…

Hi guys, I'm a complete SSD noob but have been given a 120GB SSD, which I've installed today and all is fine. I am wondering (flight sim wise) what to do with it next lol! I use P3Dv4, FSX:SE and XP11 but each of these sims currently sits at more than 120GB, so I don't have the option to place a full sim onto the SSD. So other than just using it for archive storage (installers, etc) I am wondering what you would recommend for putting it to good use? Should I install scenery to it? Photoscenery (which I use a lot of in XP11, and which currently totals 105GB) ? Any other creative uses that would take advantage of it? Many thanks in advance…

  21. As we all know , coffee lake architecture is ready to release in October with 6 Core 12 Thread, which is named in i7-8700K. Compared to i7-4790k(4 Core 8 Thread),is it necessary to take i7-8700K instead of i7-4790K to get more improvement for P3D V4,especially in complex scenery and PMDG running condition? And how about i5-8600K?(6 Core 6Thread) Thanks for your suggestion. Yang.

Hey all, It seems i am not lucky at all with G skill Memory modules. In my previous build, i first ordered g skill ddr3 sticks which appeared to be defective (few Errors, 2 or 3) after running memtest86 through usb booting. I didn´t RMA but bought instead new modules (corsair dominator platinum this time for the reliability) and as expected i had no Errors and confidently used These corsair sticks until recently when i decided to build again with new ddr4 and kabylake. I again first ordered the g kill Trident z 3600 CL15 16gb sticks (2*8) and one of the 2 sticks failed memtest (up to 300 - 400 Errors) while the other was OK. I again re-ordered right after some corsa…

  24. Folks, I'm curious if there is a fairly accurate way to quantify performance in terms of loading speed and FPS based on hardware. For example, lets say the base-line system is: P3D V4 running on Windows 10 How much of an impact in terms of performance (FPS) would one see from say a GTX1070 to a 1080ti --- Further, what is the rule of thumb on FPS increase per every MHz over a base clock of 4.2GHz on a 6700K, or 4.5MHz on a 7700K. How much gain is say an m2 or PCI based SSD over a SATA based SSD? What about DDR memory? My apologies if this has been addressed in a previous thread someplace, I tried looking for it, but kept getting a search error. …
