Greetings AVSIM, I am current running a i7 2600K 3.4G Sandy Bridge with 16GB RAM and a GTX 960 card, all tied together with an ASUS P8Z68 MB in a Cool Master HAF 932Case. I have all new (within the last year) SSD drives for storage. These I will keep. The system is old and for P3DV4, I can get around 20 FPS, a little more here, a little less there, with PMDG products, OBIX (not SoCal or NorCal). I built this system in 2011 with an eye towards longevity, and it served me well. But it's getting time to upgrade With that same eye to longevity, I am thinking about the Intel i9 9900K. That CPU and MB will be the foundation for my computer for many years. GPU c…

Hey everyone, I have been using my cuurent settup for a pretty long tima, and am experiencing a lot of stutters in P3d and XP11. I am looking for a upgrade in my pc, but I dont know what the best is tp change. I haven't a lot of experience with pc building etc, and all the stuff with overclocking. Can you guys give me some advise for what to change in my system? I'm not sure if this build is a so called low-end system or high-end, and what to change. This are the specs: Cpu: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Gpu: Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB Motherboard: Asus A320M RAM: Crucial 2x16GB Does anybody know what to change? I heard some good things about the new ser…

  3. If a program support N threads, it's best to use N-core product with maximum clock*IPC. But I don't know how much thread P3D v4 supports. Also, it seems that P3D v4 always does most jobs on 1st thread only. So my option is three. 1) 8700k 2) 7960x 3) 7980xe (All AMD products are excluded because of their low clock*IPC) If P3D v4 don't support >12 threads (well), then 8700k is the best option. But it seems many indicate that P3D v4 utilizes 32> threads. Since AffinityMask is 32-bit 1-bit flag variable, 7960x might be the best one.(since 7960x has more possibility to have more overclocked frequency then 7980xe) But! If P3D v4 actually support…

Hey Guys Looking for some info/help here. System as in signature. Tried to turn PC on couple of days ago. Was just starting and stopping when switched on and wouldn't post. Not had time to look since, had a play tonight as a work colleague lent me a PSU tester. All tested fine. When I plugged PSU back into motherboard it fired up into the bios. I have since updated the BIOS to the latest version. If I boot using system defaults, it goes into windows no problem. The memory defaults to 2133mhz. Overclocking is a no-no. It won't even POST when trying to run RAM at XMP (3200). I'm currently running a memtest on it, and has been clear so far. …

  8. I have been incrementally upgrading over the last six months and am ready to do the piece de resistance - MOBO and CPU. I previously put in a 2080ti replacing a 1080 and as most have reported saw only a marginal increase in FPS. Drives are already either M2's or SSD's, but will add a 6tb drive for scenery and larger storage. I have Corsair watercoolers and radiator already and no heat issues at all. I am putting in the ASUS Z390M micro atx and i9-9900k. I am going to do a complete re-install of everthing from Win10 up. I did not do a complete reinstall with the last P3D hotfix. It looks like ASUS has some very easy overclocking features. Gonna start in a day …

So let's suppose you're a die-hard simmer and work, family, or wanderlust takes you away from home for extended periods. What ideas do you have about the best ways to take it on the road? I find myself pondering questions such as these: - Is there a laptop made that's really capable of scratching the itch? - Anyone ever try a lan-party box kind of solution? What sorts of builds can survive the pothole jungle? Design considerations? - What sorts of flight controls lend themselves to mobility? - What kinds of travel cases work best? - Separate software licenses, or a transportable build that you can take with you serving in both fixed an…

Hi guys I was going to upgrade my pc with a budget in mind of max £1,500 and I had pretty much decided... Asus prime mboard I9 9900k CPU 759w PSU Rtx 2060 6gb graphics and 2x Rx 580 16gb ram at 3000mhz I found a website for bottleneck calcs and it said the PSU is to powerful for the rtx 2060 and would cause bottlenecking. Will this really be an issue for prepar3d? I know I shouldn't mix Nvidia with AMD but can't stretch the budget to 2* 2060s at the moment and I have already got the Rx 580 on the current pc. Bottleneck site said.... I7 9700k With the rx580 would result in a 2% of bottlenecking and CPU wit…

Can anyone advise me on my conundrum, I currently have an I7 4790K overclocked to 4.4 GHZ with 16 GB of Ram with a GTX 1070, my son has a Ryzen 7 1700X and he is thinking about upgrading to a Ryzen 7 3800X when they are released, He said I can have his old CPU and Motherboard for free if I want, however in 6/12 month(s) time I was thinking about upgrading myself to an Amd Ryzen 3800X, how overclockable are ryzens? I know single core perfomance is king in the flightsim world, I know the 1700X is a newer Cpu than my 4790K but my single core speed is superior, would single core performance of the 1700X be better than my old I7? What would be the very best laptop available to fly P3d SMOOTHLY and at HIGH settings? I know this is difficult, but I would love to have your expert opinions on this. I have a super powerful state of the art JETLINE SYSTEM desktop computer (under 1 year old) and it is fantastic for P3d. I would want to have stutter free smooth FPS performance from a laptop as well. Thanks in advance for your opinions. Stan

Hello Hardware Gurus, I have an i9900 overclocked to 5.0. Although it has 8 cores, when I check the performance, it monitors what it calls 16 "logical" processors. When running P3D4.5 the first of these "logical processors is nearly always at 100% whereas all the others, whist obviously doing some work are spiking up and down consistently between 30% and 50%. The overall (I am guessing this is an average) CPU reading is at around 65%. Does the first logical processor at 100% mean I have a bottleneck or should I be going by the overall reading of 65% and believing the system is cruising? Regards, Steve.

Hello All, As a relative newcomer to the world of overclocking, I worry that the increase in temperatures caused by my overclocking my be hazardous to the health of my system. My i9 9900 is at 5.0 and running at around 50C spiking at 60C. My ASUS Z390-F motherboard is only at 40-50C but my ASUS GTX1070 (overclocked to around 1890 is running at around 60C, spiking to 70C sending the fans into a frenzy. Are these temps OK? Steve.

I am planing to get the 3900x, and I have not used an AMD cpu since the Athlon FX a loooong time ago!!, i dont rememeber where i read that performance with those cpus were not good with the sim. So, do you think it is a good choice getting an AMD cpu for P3Dv4? or do I stick with intel and 9900K?? Greetings!

I have just had a new i9 9900K RTX 2080 system for X-plane built at my local computer shop. So far, the performance is what I had expected it to be moving up from my 4 year old i7 4790 GTX 980 system. I now see 50-122 FPS depending upon location compared 30-60 FPS on the old box. What I did not expect is the new computer sound like a leaf blower when under load compared to the almost whispering sounds made by the i7 4790.. In fact I had to turn on the turbo cooling mode on the old one to sound similar to the new one's slightly above idle racket. The biggest noise maker in the new computer are the two 120mm fans on the Corsair H100i Platinum All In One cooler…

AMD calls their version of hyper threading, SMT Simultaneous multi-threading. When I 1st ran my system, the SMT was turned on by default. 25. Good afternoon all. I'm a 100 hour private pilot and avid gamer as well. I'm about to start my instrument training and would like to set up a simulator both for fun and training. I'd also like to set up the PC for iracing (or similar racing platform). Please keep in mind i'm brand new to this. I'd like to have a complete set for 2k or less ideally... including 3 monitors, PC, wheel/yoke, pedals/controls, etc. It may be far fetched, again i'm new to this and a little out of touch. I don't mind building my own PVC rig if need be... although purchasing a complete setup would definitely be an added bonus. I did go on to Bestbuy and find a few CPU's that seem to meet all t…
