  1. Hey guys I haven’t flown a flight simulator since FS9. I’ve recently saved enough money and am looking into buying a new pc to get back into it. The pc would mainly be used for prepar3d, some gaming, and some light video editing. The PC I would build consists of the following: PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zWzZhy CPU: Intel - Core i9-9900K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor ($489.99 @ B&H) CPU Cooler: NZXT - Kraken X62 Rev 2 98.17 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($139.89 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Asus - ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($225.99 @ Amazon) Memory: G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DD…

  2. For those of you following the saga in my previous thread, you already know I'll be assembling my new P3D rig this week which will include a fresh copy of Windows 10. I was doing a little prep, and was trying to figure out what needs to be done on my current rig before the move, backing up files, etc. I'd like to make sure to keep my P3D key assignments, FSUIPC aircraft profiles, and other little things to make the move as seamless as possible. With that in mind, does anyone have a checklist of items and or files to grab and back up? Many of us have years tied into getting P3D and associated add-on's running the way we like. What do you guys do when moving ev…

Hello, My last build was some 6-7 years ago with an i7 3770K when de-lidding was all the rage. I successfully did this and achieved great results. However with the latest i9 9900K it appears to be a far more difficult process. If I am looking for the turbo frquency of 5 Ghz is it worth delidding? Steve Shallcross.

Prototype Noctua cooler, with no fans, cooling a 9900K. A bit warm yes, but it's running Prime 95. For those of you that worry about weight, this one weighs 1.5 KG. 😀 Imagine what it can do WITH fans.

Hi, I am looking at doing a new build. 9900K, 2080ti in a Fractal Design Meshify S2. I really like EVGA Z390 Dark MB and I really like the Noctua NH-15DS CPU cooler. The question/concern is that the EVGA board rotates the CPU socket 90 degrees which will effectively have the fan for the Noctua fan going from bottom to top as opposed to front to back to be in line with the case fans. Also I believe the preferred slot for the GPU is the top one which basically has the non-fan side of the GPU facing the inlet for the Noctua. Is this a concern? I guess I could reverse the fan where the noctua is drawing air from the top of the case and blowing it ac…

My PC motherboard and hard disk drive recently died. The HP desktop pc was going on 11 years-old. The problem is, Prepar3Dv4.4 and all add-ons were on the HDD. Recovery efforts did not resurrect P3DV4.4, nor any of my airplanes or Active Sky apps. So, I bought a new PC. This means new IP Address, right? Does anyone know if I will have trouble reinstalling/activating P3DV4.4? Aerosoft airbuses and Carenado planes can be reinstalled on a new pc without a hassel, but don't know about LM P3DV4. Help! Hey all.... So I've installed Prepar3d, coming off years of FSX. Current setup is below. I'd love to run some add-ons, PMDG, OrbX, and do some basic flying. I'm not looking to get 60 FPS. Without OrbX and using Q8Pilot's display settings, I currently get about 15-20 on the ground, which isn't bad considering the old GPU. Anyway, I have a friend who has a 1080Ti he's willing to sell me for $300 (yes he's a friend), but the card HAS been used for mining. Or do I pay about $600 and go with a 2070? Hello All, I currently have an old i7 3770 overclocked to 4.2. If I get an i7 9700 and overclock it to 4.9 this represents an increase in clockspeed of around 17%. My question is this. All other things being equal does this increase the framerate in the 2 major sims by around the same 17% or will the newer technology of the latest CPUs give an even greater increase? I hope this is not a stupid question! Regards, Steve Shallcross.

Guys, I need your help. I have seen recent post regarding CPU upgrade but I would like to have a narrowed down advise between the two, 8700K v 9700K. I use P3D v4.4 with FSL. At the moment I am using 6600K Oc to 4.5 Ghz. That is the highest I can get and I get stutter here and there during take off and approach. I am still not sure which road I should go. 8700K has 6 core with HT and 9700K has 8 without HT. Which do you think will be best to upgrade to and if you have any personal experience with this. Thanks

  18. Hello All, I have been telling myself for some time now that I should be satisfied with my FSX setup and the thousands of dollars worth of add-ons that have given me so much enjoyment over so many years. The problem is that the best new releases are now snubbing FSX for the obvious reasons and finally I am feeling like I am missing out. So it is time to bite the bullet and build a new rig for Prepar3D. I am prepared to spend the money to somewhat future-proof the rig without going stupid about it but I want to get the best out of this new flightsim. Can somebody out there please suggest some specs in terms of M/board, CPU (overclocked) and RAM. I have an ASUS GTX 107…

  21. Hello, I have recently build a new computer. 9900K 32GB ram 2 SSD 1TB/512GB GTX 780. I have noticed that the GPU sits on 100% all the time and the CPU is around 12%. And it is devided over 2 cores (0-2). So I wonder if the GTX 780 is the bottleneck here? The values stay there, even if I set everything on low. FPS is between 25-50. Set to 60. Where I am not unsatisfied about this. Thanks ahead, RobB

Hi, I am working on piecing together a new build (9900k with a good MB). One of the MB I am interested in is the EVGA Z390 Dark. It is a pricey MB but looks like it is well put together. EVGA presently has a bundle deal with a new EVGA Z390 Dark and an open box 9900K CPU for $850 (vs $1000 new). I have never purchased an open box item and was interested in some of the experts experiences or opinions. I would essentially be getting my first choice MB for the cost of my second choice MB (ASUS ROG Maximus XI Code @ $350) with the risk of an open box CPU which would still be under warrantee Any insight is appreciated Thanks Brett
