A couple of weeks I switched from HDD to SSD. Made a fresh install Win10 on 250 SSD C:\ drive, and also fresh FSX onto 500Gb D:\ Since then it takes a looong time to start FSX, and even much more longer if I change to another plane. It feel like double then on the old HDD. FSX performance itself is equal or even better during flight. No other change in HW or SW. Trim is on for both. Thank you for any tips Peter Win10Home, I7@3,8 8Gig RAM

Evening guys. I’m pretty new to P3d but am loving it compared to FSX. I’ve recently purchased the QW787 and my current (old) system is struggling to cope. I’m a real amateur when it comes to computer systems and wouldn’t know where to start building my own. I’ve found the following spec for £1500 that looks decent, just after some thoughts. Cheers in advance. James Features & details System: Intel Core i7-9700K Processor (8 Cores, 3.6GHz Base, 4.9Hz Turbo, 12MB Cache) | Intel Z370 Chipset Motherboard | 16GB DDR4 RAM | 240GB SATA-III SSD | 2TB 7200RPM SATA-III HDD Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 8GB Graphics Card …

Hi all, I want to share with you an observation that I made today after upgrading my DDR4 RAM memory from 16 GB to 32 GB. I had gathered some money that I wanted to invest to either purchase more RAM or a 2TB SSD dedicated to scenery. Currently I have my large scenery data in a 6 TB SSD drive (ORBX, XP11 Custom Scenery, Mesh, etc.) loading through symbolic links. Searching a lot and reading in many forums, including this one, I got mixed impressions. I would say that most people suggested that 16GB is certainly enough memory and there is zero benefits from upgrading to 32GB if the RAM consumption seen in Task Manager is lower than 16GB. There was a few others, …

I was having issues with external USB drives I added recently, like copies and moves with occasional error, I was able to update some USB related drivers in Windows 10 just by requesting them to be updated via Device Manager. Then I rebooted the PC and apparently it got stuck at the Win10 start screen (the one with revolving dots). Then I reset the PC and now nothing appears at the screen anymore, I mean, there seems to be a video signal somehow because the monitor (a 4k TV) stops showing the "lack of a signal" message, it just goes blank, which makes me think the video card is sending something. During boot up I hit DEL key forever to try to get into BIOS(UEFI) but it do…

Hi, Is it possible to even out the core utilization when P3D is running ?. Looking at a HW monitor (see screen shot), core 0 is at 100% while all the other cores are hardly doing anything. Is it a setting in the bios you have to change, or is this normal to P3D. If I run X-Plane, core usage is more or less even across all cores, again is it a P3D thing, I just want to make sure I am using my new I9-9900k to get the best out of P3D. Appreciate any help/suggestions. Thanks for looking. https://imgur.com/a/kneUmZe John.

Hey guys, I had a question for the P3D vets out there. I'm currently in the process of building a new PC. I'm currently on FSX Steam at the moment and was wondering if these specs will be good enough to run v4 as well as various PMDG addons + active sky. CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz MOBO - MSI B450 Gaming Pro Memory - Ballistix Sport LT 16 GB DDR4-3000 SSD - Inland 240 GB SSD HDD - Seagate - Barracuda 2 TB 7200 RPM GPU - EVGA RTX 2070 8 GB. I already have a ton of addons for FSX including PMDG aircraft as well as active sky and was wondering if switching to P3D would be worth buying everything again or if I should just stick to FSX…

Hello all, Off flight sim topic. My wife's computer acting strangely. For last month, MS Event Viewer is showing numerous disk I/O failures. I've replaced the old HDD with a SSD. Problem not solved, still getting the disk I/O failure errors. Also re-installed OS (Win10 64 bit). Switched SATA cables. No joy. Also, noticed after reinstalling Win 10 after changing to the SSD, her monitor would start flashing big blocks of rainbow colors or just display a solid color. Had to shutdown using the power switch. More frequently now the computer is hard failing. It still starts just fine. No overclock or fancy FSX/P3D stuff. Just a simple office computer. I built…

Hello guys. I have just upgraded from an i7 + gt1080 with P3dv4.3 to the following: i9-9900K 3.60 Hz - Geforce RTX 2080Ti - 64GB memory - Z390 Aorus Ultra-CF Of course, I will be installing P3dv4.4. Contrary to my days with FSX, I had P3d running well and smooth without any tweaks and no NVI with FXAA ON, AA 8xMSAA, Anisotropic 8x, 2048x2048, Vsync ON, Triple Buffering and FPS set to unlimited. However, I still had the autogen loading issue ... I use the P3D PC connected to a projector which displays only the front view (I had a 3pc + 3 projectors setup for my home cockpit, but it's very demanding and troublesome to keep 3 pcs's with 3 copies of P3d up…

Hi everyone. By backwards I mean I am beginning with a curved ultra widescreen monitor and P3d and wanting a system built to support them. I have stopped flying because of vision issues which is the same reason for choice of monitor. Expensive but will work best for me. No longer flying makes the Sim particularly important to me.i I am not a gamer and I don't need a blistering hot system able to push every slider to the peg, run numerous addons and expect 60 fps. It is the realism of the flight model, virtual cockpit rendition, avionics and systems replication that most interest me. A smooth running PMDG 737ngx is a good example of what I am looking for. Hello. I am thinking about upgrading my cpu or graphics card to increase my frame rate on Prepar3d. As I've downloaded scenery, the frame rate starts to drop to the point that it's getting difficult to do everything well. The specs I have on my computer now are: CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz RAM: 8GB Graphics Card: Geforce GTX 960 When I'm running prepar3d my CPU usage is about 60-65%. Would I have to change out both CPU and graphics card, and which ones would you recommend I choose?

Can anyone throw any light on this for me… I recently received some (expected) data from a company (known to me) on a sponsors ‘giveaway’ 1GB USB stick. This data was (or should have been) just 5 JPG files within a folder. Upon plugging in the USB device, there was a much longer delay than usual before my PC displayed the contents. I always have my PC set to ‘Show Hidden Files’. There are 6 hidden files, and 2 hidden folders. Each folder containing unidentifiable hidden files. Some of these I can open and some I can’t. The files I can open, clearly contain information that can ONLY have been obtained from my PC after plugging into the USB port. Most files…

The Ram recommended spec' for P3D is typically 16GB DDR4 2666 MHz . I have 16GB DDR3 1866 MHz . Would my G/Card spec' and Ram spec' give a poor performance when when trying to run P3D ?

Thinking of getting one of these chips, but after more info please. Does P3D take advantage of all the cores ? , has anyone tried it without O.C and letting it turbo up to 5.0.ghz, but I believe it only uses 2 cores in turbo mode, or is it better performance overclocking all cores to say 5.0.ghz. Also is it worth using H.T. in P3D with this chip. One last thing, can anyone point me to a video, reviewing or demo of P3D using this chip, as nearly all the demos on YT are for mainly games. Thanks for looking. John.

  18. Hi, I am P3Dv4 player. I fly both, GA and big airliners (including PMDG777). I have most of the ORBX addons (all global and regions addons + TE Netherlands), a lot of payware big airports and recently I fly a lot in VR using Oculus rift (with PMDG777 too). My current PC is used to fly and to normal work. I noticed that one yer later after fresh OS install P#D on my PC slows down significantly. I think that is caused by additional software which I use to normal work. That is why I am planning to buy a new PC which will be dedicated only to P3D. The old one will be used for normal work and to run weather engine for P3D on LAN. I have been reading topics relat…

I think the MB,CPU and RAM are out of date and need replacing. But there are so many choices and i can't decide which path to go. here are the 2 main choices i have: i7 8700K with the Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X coupled with 16Gb Corsair Vengance LPX 3200Mhz or i7 9700K with the Aoros Z390 Pro and the same RAM. I'm leaning towards the i7 9700k as it may be more future proof and that's what i need as my current setup reaches the 7year old mark. But afte…

Hi all, I get to play with some computers for work that run P3D, but would like to do something at home. Potentially p3d because I have enjoyed it, or x-plane 11 to see how the other half lives (or... both??? :O ) To save a few dollars, i'm scouring the local craigslist for used parts. What's the oldest CPU setup I should consider, before I acknowledge i'm just throwing my money away? I am looking to start around a 4770k / 4790k, although those seem to be holding their value (which is good I suppose? but if $100 moves me into a new 8700k...) Today, I replaced my GTX760 with an RTX2080 in my desktop PC (i7-4790). I know there are things I need to do with P3D so it recognizes, and takes advantage of, the new GPU. I deleted the P3D.cfg in AppData/Roaming/LockheedMartin/P3D, started up P3D, it created a new P3D.cfg, but it still shows the GTX760. I imagine AVSIM already has a document that explains what all I need to do to prepare P3D for the new hardware. Would you please be so kind as to point me to it? Thanks much. Scott

Hi Folks, Re: Phantek Enthoo Pro Case Assembling a new build - want to remove the stock fans and replace with Noctua... The case has a PWM Fan Hub as illustrated below - which is a new one on me... It has a power lead from the power supply - a four pin CPU fan plug - then - six other fan plugs that are three pin.. When looking at the Noctua fans - the ones that have a "PWM" designation all have four pin plugs - which I obviously can't use... So I would just purchase the "Non-PWM" three pin fans and plug them in here ? Also - I thought the mobo controls the fans - where is that connection to allow for that ? I'm considering this with a 9700k and 8 gig 2080, 16 gigs of ram. Anyone here that is using this unit? Curious as to your opinions. Reviews are very good.
