HI All I have been embarking on a look at my sim setup recently due to some FPS issues I have been having. This being the classic problem of the FPS tanking when on approach with most kinds of Scenery. I noticed that despite my semi-recent investment in a half-decent GPU (a 8GB RX-570), I am seeing little actual use of my VRAM, suggesting that my real problem is my considerably older CPU, an FX-8350. So here are a few questions coming out of that: What can I do with regards to my CPU? Will I need to look at replacing it? What tweaks can I make to my settings to give my CPU an easier time (/shift the load) without compromising aesthetics too much? …

Hi all, Once more summoning the knowledge of the expert people of this forum. My question is regarding OC, I have a 6700k, I managed to get it to 4.8 Ghz at 1.392V and after stress testing with AIDA extreme overnight, I got to these temperatures (See linked image) I was wondering if you think these are acceptable temperatures after 13 hrs of testing and if it's safe to mantain this OC, considering my system is 100% dedicated to flight sim, so no productivity tasks, or other intensive processes. https://imgur.com/ftj7rLx Thanks in advance, Christian

Hi all need your advice I upgraded my graphics card to RTX 2080 and great performance can push my AA much higher and helps with rift on high PD 2.0. I still believe my sytem may well be bottlenecking on the CPU side . I have an 17 6700K O/C to 4.4 Ghz no HT . 16mb of ram on 2666mhz . Looking at a m/b upgrade to I5 9600K 16mb 3200mb will cost about £500 with motherboard . Is this a worthwhile upgrade would I be better saving and investing in a I7 9700K .

so I used to fly all the time on fsx back when it first came out with the basic aircraft but fell out of touch with it years ago. I've decided to get serious with it this time and wanting to fly with all the add ons this time, looking at pmdg to start with and gsx before I explore into how everything works, I dont want to throw myself into everything at once not having a clue how to work any of it at all. Long story short though, I know its a question asked so often and it bugs me too but I cant help myself and really need to know so my specs are below, Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™ i7 Six Core Processor i7-8700 (3.2GHz) 12MB Cache Motherboard A…

Any disadvantages to using this 3200MHz 32GB G.Skill FlareX kit on Z390 boards? I thought it might be useful to have a Ryzen compatible memory kit should I want to upgrade to next gen AMD.

So my approx 16 year (!) old sim system had died, somehow, overnight. This was about 6 months ago. I was gutted as you can imagine. Given its age I was still able to do what I wanted in the sim (fsxA) just with lower FPS . It was even 32 bit windows 7 😁✌️( ngx into Switzerland pro and fly logic sion LSGS no problem) Anyway, long story short I’ve lately been getting the bug again. This time round though, I’m gonna go in all guns blazing. The aim is to put my old fsx stuff on it useing it’s own SSD, but also move over to P3Dv4 ive put together a system and would like to try to get some opinions on it : The G-card is a 2080 and they ain’t c…

I know it's early still, but any thoughts on the value of the 9900k vs 8086k for P3D v4? Early reports don't seem to show much overclocking room for the 9900k and temps are pretty high. Single core, the 8086k is equal with out of the box with turbo and lower temps. Possibly even slightly higher overclocking potential to the 5.2-5.3 GHz range. I almost exclusively run P3D v4 and DCS World. So the 2 extra cores appear useless to me, and single and 2 core speeds with turbo or mild overclock appear the same. Right now, I'm feeling the 8086k might be the better choice in this situation, but am wondering if anyone has any thoughts? I am planning on a z390 chipset MB…

If you for some reason want to uppgrade to 8cores from a 6core cpu 8700k to 9900K. you have a good Z370 Mobo with external usb 3.1 gen2 controller and not use wifi. If you read the specs the only big difference is onboard Wifi and usb 3.1 gen2 I read in some treads here at Avsim that Z390 should OC better then the Z370 true? or is it rumors that popped up on the net without any source. Have start Overclocking a 9900k on my Z370 Apex MoBo . Get the CPU stable with 5.4ghz HT-on and 5.5ghz HT-off , cooling customloop 360 rad and D5 pump. I write in a tread here at avsim that i pass the 9900k if i not find a really GOOD cpu, get lucky to find one. …

I'm currently running P3D v4.4 with a GTX1060 6GB and a Ryzen 5 2600 @ 3.4GHz, 16GB DDR4 and SSD. I have a fairly limited budget, and my question is if I would see the biggest FPS increase by upgrading the CPU to a Ryzen 7 2700X, or by upgrading the GPU to a 1070 8GB or RTX2060 6GB. I know these are fairly specific questions but any help would be appreciated.

I have my memory G-Skill 3600 CL15 and my i7-8086K CPU. Now it's time to decided on which motherboard to get. I've always used Asus boards but from all the reviews it seems like Asus has gone down hill in quality and VRM. What I like most about Asus is I am familiar with the bios which is easy to use. I am looking at the following three boards so I can overclock my 8086K between 5.0Ghz thru 5.3Ghz. I briefly looked at the Gigabyte bios and I see what everyone talks about but it looks manageable. What do some of you recommend? Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero Asus ROG Maximus XI Code Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master

Hi All, I have happily been running my 4790k at 4.8Ghz for years on Core: 0,1,2,3 (HT OFF). Extremely stable and < 60C across all four cores during heavy load (P3D v4.4) I remember reading (can’t find the thread), that some users suggested running Core 0 at 100Mhz more than the rest, as this helps reduces scenery blurries and improves sim performance overall. Anyone have any experience with this, and could share some insight? Thank you

I've got a wheezy Dell XPS 8500 running Win 10 with a it-3770 four core chip running @ 3.4 MHz and 8 Gb of Ram. The system is on a WD 1 Tb HDD with I have FSX on a Samsung 256 Gb SSD. The video card is an AMD Radeon HD 7500 with 1 Gb of on-board memory. I'm running FSX-Steam with minimal addons and custom scenery. I like to fly the PMDG products, especially the DC-6 but the results of very shaky to say the least. I know its time to dump this machine, but I'd like to try to get another year or so out of it. I was wondering if I invested in a used GTX 750 Ti or similar card, might I see some improvement? Thanks, Jim Driskell

Today I tried to OC my 8700k and achieved a stable 5 Ghz at only 1.23v. Normally my P3D settings are just at the default, with 8xMSAA (FXAA on), 16x Anisotropic, and dynamic reflections/shadows, etc. I upped the setting and copied Chewwy94's settings found here https://www.chewwy94.co.uk/settings1.html. I was quite surprised that my FPS which before was steady at 60fps, struggled to maintain even 35-40 fps, and the CPU usage remained at 95-100%. GPU usage ranged between 30-49%. Apart from the FPS alone, I could definitely feel bad stutters/long frames. Definitely not the results that I was expecting. My PC specs is in the signature: i7-8700K…

Hi, very simple question... Specs: i5 8600K GTX 1060 6GB 16GB RAM Should I upgrade: i5 8600K --> I7 9700K GTX 1060 6GB ---> RTX 2070 Which one affects performance the most. Personally, I think its th CPU, but others disagree. Its very annoying... Why isn't there is a simple answer. I really want a good idea about my performance gain before I chunk down £400 at an upgrade. EGLL 14-18 FPS at night with dynamic lighting, orbx, pmdg, REX sky force etc... Thanks, Ollie

Hello all, I am currently interested in upgrading part of my system, however I currently can only spend around 500 US. My specs are as follows - Ryzen 5 1600, 32 GB of DDR4-2666, GTX1060 6GB, a 1TB and a 2TB 7200rpm HD, and 124GB SSD, and a Thermaltake MasterLiquid 240 that seems to always keep my CPU cool. I run v4.5 with good number of addons (FSL, QW, ActiveSky, and numerous scenery addons). In clear conditions in the middle of an ocean I can get 40-50FPS in the labs and I usually get just below 30. In bad conditions I’d be lucky to get over 10 FPS in any bad weather situation. So my question should I upgrade my CPU/MOBO or my GPU. I’ve been leaning a little towar…

My CPU: i7 4790K, 4 Ghz, turbo boost up to 4.4 Ghz GPU: GTX 1070 16GB RAM I want to know how much FPS will I gain from overclocking to say 4.8 Ghz at the most demanding situations (i.e. on final approach to EGLL/EHAM with ORBX OpenLC) ? If I'm getting an average of 20 FPS right now on approach to EHAM/EGLL on a PMDG 777, will a 20% increase from 4 to 4.8 give a 20% increase in FPS from 20 to 24 FPS? 1. Is that Math correct? Is it a simple linear thing like that or more complicated? 2. I'm guessing the overclocking will not solve the FPS fluctuations that are typical when you have a 60Hz monitor and the FPS jumps from 30 to 15 and back…

Why is my page file the same size as my RAM? Does it need to be? REason I ask is because I've got a small 120GB SSD (funny 120GB is small lol) and it's been filling up. I use it for Windows 7 but you know how extra word not allowed gets installed there by default (I'm not the best with organizing and sym links etc). Anyway would it be bad to cut it in half? I have 16GB RAM.

Hi all, This will be my first post, but through the years, I’ve always found such a great amount of info and knowledge in the forums, so hopefully you can help me out here. I’m a bit of a dilemma regarding if I should upgrade my system or not, and I know there’s far more technical people here than myself and also people who have used the components that intend to upgrade to, so any tips you guys can offer would be of great help.
