Hello all, In this land of constant power failures, I have encountered a problem which is puzzling to say the least. A power fail last night just before bedtime so I just turned everything off (power still off) reached for my trusty torch (always at hand) and went to bed. Before I start detailing my woes please let me give you my computer specs 1 PSU 1200watt MB ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 (installed a week ago to replace a power fail blown ASUS Z68) CPU core i7 2600k OC'd to 4.4 and stable since OC, for about 12 months. 2. What do you think of this laptop for FSX-SE? It's just $805. https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-IPS-Level-i5-8300H-GeForce-2666MHz/dp/B07DY11M1F Asus TUF FX504GE-ES72 CPU: i7-8750H (6 cores, 2.2-4.1 Ghz) RAM: 8GB DDR4 Display: 15", 1920x1080 Storage: 256 GB M.2 SSD (yes, too small, but there's a SATA bay avaliable, and I have a SATA SSD lying around). GPU: Geforce GTX 1050Ti My idea is to run FSX-SE with Orbx Global+Vector, no addon airports (just AFCADs), AI, ActiveSky WX, and aircraft such as the Aerosoft Airbus and the iFly 737. Moving into P3D is not an option for me, I was able to get all the FSX addons for not that much. Will it be a good purchase?

  4. I've got a new (but used) mobo and I formatted my old Win7 drive and installed Win10 x64 After POST there's a blinking hyphen (or underscore I think) in the upper left. It blinks at the very top, then blinks one line down, then back to the top. It usually goes back and forth for about 30-40 seconds. Then the Win10 logo appears with the "thinking" screen then it loads into Win10 where I can enter my login password. Does anyone know why the blinking hyphen thing is present?

Greetings chaps. I know a young man (his dad works with my daughter) who 's doing a game dev course and needs a PC. Trouble is he has a very tight budget. £700 is the budget. I'm thinking at such a low budget Ryzen 5 might be the way to go. Personally I'm an Intel guy and have no experience of Ryzen. So what do you guys think? what can you come up with for this young lad with a budget of £700? That's just for the tower.

  10. About to invest in hardware upgrades and I’m torn between the i7 9700k and the i9 9990k ... only major difference is the 9900k has 16 threads compared to 8 threads on the 9700k ... but also from reading around I found this - “Mainstream PC games do not benefit from more than eight threads, so at $350 (25% cheaper than the 9900K), the 9700K offers far better value for money to gamers.” so so would it even be worth the extra $100 for something that I don’t even know if P3D would benefit from?

Hello everyone, The time has come that I really need a new computer. I currently own a laptop with the following specs: i7 6700HQ @ 2,60 to 3,20 GHz Geforce GTX 960m 4gb 8 gb DDR4 RAM I own P3D v4, but just can‘t get it to run smooth. The PMDG 737 gives me 18 FPS combined with Active Sky while the settings are set really low. FSX doesn‘t work well either and is extremely unstable. For this reason I have been stuck with FS2004 for a long while but it‘s limits are really showing, and it‘s becoming more and more difficult to keep a realistic feel to such an old sim. So I am planning to get a new computer to run P3D v4 …

  13. I am sure some or many of you will already be aware of the fairly recently discovered Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities with hardware and software. These have been fixed or patched in Windows 10 and in many BIOS updates for most vendors. However, if you are running an older CPU, basically any CPU before the 8th and 9th series Intel then these fixes have markedly reduced your CPU performance in Windows and also P3D. It is also highly suspect that Intel have 'nerfed' older architectures to make the current generations seem more appealing.. but that is a side issue. There is however an option to disable these performance reducing patches, via a tool created by Gibson…

  14. I was going to do a new build in January but with Ice lake rumors, I decided to hold off. Now Intel is indicating that ice lake desktop chips won't be out until 2020. Some reports saying it could even be mid-2020 before they are out. Opinions on proceeding with new build now? The cycle is continuous but I figure I build now, then do an ice lake in about 2 years from now.

building a new system - primarily for P3D. Asus rog maximus xi formula is my MB choice. case and fans are all corsair so I'd like to go with corsair ram for the rgb compatibility. I think I am going with the Dominator Platinum RGB. Problem is, I cannot decide what configuration, speed etc. I know I want at least 32GB total. Now, the decisions.... 3000, 3200, 3600..... 2x16, 4x8, 4x16. 4x8 will look the best but I know won't perform as well as 2 x16. 4 x 16 would be best but $$$$$.I currently have 2 x16 3200 in my current system so don't think I would want to go lower than that. Any input?

  18. Hi guys, I have been out of the hardware game for a while because I have had an Ailenware Aurora for about 8 years. It finally gave out today. Hi everyone! I used to be a flight sim maniac for years, but life got in the way and I left it all behind about 6 years ago. A lot has changed in the technology-side-of-things, and luckily also in the money-side-of things for me, which means that I have a healthy budget to get back into the flight sim world. i used to only use FSX, but I've done enough research already to know that Prepar3d is the platform I will be going with now. This is the custom PC that I want to have built for me (here, in the UK), that fits in my budget and I would like to ask for some opinions and advice on it. if it matters - maybe, for the GPU advice - I will be using an Ultra-Wide Cur…

Hello everyone, The last months my pc really struggled with running XP11 and P3D. I have a prety good system, and hoped to get about 30 fps when I built it, but that wasn't the case. I get about 18 to 22 frames per second in XP, and some more in P3D. In XP I am suffering from a lot of stutters, with pretty low fps at cruise, and in P3D I got some crashes because of the Kernel DDL problem, and sometimes the screen flickered. When reinstalling XP I didn't get the 40+ fps like everyone with a system like mine, but a really stuttery 22 fps with vanilla installation at KSEA in a Cessna. I P3d this was way better, but it also feels very unstable. I really didn't know what …

Hi Guys My motherboard is an Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero which does not come with native wifi or Bluetooth, but instead has a separate M.2 slot for adding a card. I’ve been trying (without success) to find out exactly which card I can use in this slot. Asus mark it as M.2 (E key). Now, does this mean M.2 cards with ONLY the E key can be used? Or can I also use the much more common cards with A and E key slots? Before its suggested, I don’t want to use a USB dongle😉

Recently, I’ve invested in some new hardware with the goal of achieving smooth flight with higher settings. I’m happy to report that all my hard work has paid off, with the help of these forums! I started with upgrading my video card to the RTX 2080 (not just for sim I play other games too) I purchased a Corsair liquid cooler H100i Pro. I already had 16gb of Ripjaw memory so I stayed with that. Finally, I purchased the 970 Evo Plus V-Nano 1TB SSD where I loaded Prepar3d and all my addons. I have an i7 8700k and I achieved a stable 5 ghz overclock on it, which took some work. The results are wonderful. Smooth flight with very few stutter…

Hey Guys. Really enjoying my new rig. Spent years on a 2600k rig. Admittedly, I am not really fully utilizing the capability of this new computer as the majority of my simming is FS9. This is for a multitude of factors. Mainly, I already have all the add-ons I want configured the way I want them. Most of the FS9 flying I do is VATSIM airliner flights around the US. With Microsoft's new sim coming soon, I don't see a huge push to dive into P3D right now. Maybe the new MS sim will be a dud, and I will go P3d eventually. I also really enjoy Aerofly FS 2 for screw around VFR type flights. Anyway. Right now I have a limited overclock by definition only. Other…

  25. I'm trying to figure out the RTX 20xx cards....what sort of PSU power connector do I actually need? I've got a Seasonic X750 modular from 2011. Would this support a RTX 20xx card?
