While unconfirmed, see https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-ryzen-3000-series-matisse-specs,38310.html Note the Ryzen 3850 rumor -- 16 Cores, 4.3 base freq and 5.1 turbo ($499) or the 3700X -- 12 cores, 4.2 base freq and 5.0 turbo ($329). If this turns out to be true, could be an interesting year for those of us looking to upgrade. Please no AMD vs Intel discussions. This is FYI only.

I have a chance to upgrade my GPU from a GTX760. I have an i7-4790K, 16 GB RAM, Win10/64 driving 3 x 1080p monitors all rendering outside-the-window window views. A second PC (i7-4770K with its own 3 monitors) is used for instrument panel and two more outside-the-window views). I run P3Dv4, ASP4, REX SF, and ORBX. I’m thinking upgrading the GPU to an RTX 2070, but might be persuaded to go to RTX 2080 or even 2080Ti ($😬) if the argument was compelling enough. Thoughts? Thanks!

My current cpu still runs well in most applications, however at 8 years old it is starting to show its age. I get great performance out of P3D with my current setup, but XP11 struggles a bit to run on my system. I'm thinking the combination of the i5-2500k and the high end GTX1070 is creating a bottleneck for my cpu. I'd like to avoid changing out the motherboard, memory, etc. if I can get away with it. Is it still worth it to buy a high end Ivy Bridge chip in this day and age or would my money be better spent on a complete hardware upgrade? I have been looking at the Intel Core i7-3770K which appears to be the best chip you can buy (and is still available new) for the LG…

Hey I am a first time FS-X user with the intent of playing online. I was scoping out desktop computers today and wondered what you guys though about the Cyberpower GMA3000BST for use with FS-X and Steam Edition. A couple of questions. 1) Can I run these games off of Windows 10? 2) Is this computer a good option for the game, or would you all have a better recommendation? I am looking to spend between $400-900 on the computer, and don't plan to really install much more on the computer. I am trying to run the game with the expansion pack and full graphics. 3) Have you all had success using the wireless cards in your desktops to play FS-X? See the …

Hi, I'm currently an Xplane 11 user planning to switch to p3d. I've recently tried p3dv4.4 and noticed my fps was very low(15fps) compared to Xplane 11(70+fps), is this normal? I'm currently running only REX sky force, tomatoshade, and the QW787. No other scenery or add-ons since I'm only getting started. Default F22 at a default airport gives around 40 fps. Graphics drivers and Windows updates are at its latest. I also heard that p3d is very CPU intensive, maybe that could be the problem? Do I need a new CPU just to play p3d? So I'm looking at doing a new build. I've done a lot of research here and elsewhere and found the parts that seem to be the most recommended. However, I'm starting to wonder if it's a bit overkill. I use my PC mainly for P3Dv4 and photo editing. I don't play any other games on it (not yet, maybe something like DCS in the future) and once in a while will edit videos (1080p). I'm currently running an i5-2500k @4.5 which works pretty well but not as good as I've been hoping for lately. Terrain textures get blurry more often and the frames are not horrible but not awesome either. So, here is the list I have: CPU: i7-9700k (will overclock) GPU: GTX1080 Founders Editi…

So I pulled the "heavy" trigger on the parts list, for my new and first gaming build. This build will be mostly dedicated to FSX and X-Plane. I researched and compared a lot, tried to balance price and performance and I hope I did good. Any input or suggestion from an experienced builder is appreciated. After some research I found more than one article comparing AMD and Intel when it came to flight simming. I kept reading that though AMDs new Ryzen processors are really good, Intel lead the way in flight sim, being as it is processor intensive. So I decided to go with the unlocked 9th gen i7-9700k, and some liquid cooling. Even though fsx doesn't rely on the gpu as much a…

I currently have the I7-4790K (see specs below) with a GTX 1080Ti. Performance is still very good, but I'm pricing an upgrade to an I9-9900K with new MB, cooler & memory. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Bq7B3b I built the system originally, so I feel confident in the upgrade, but what I don't know for sure is how to go about adding the drives back in the least disruptive way. C:\ 500GB SSD, has current OS and some program files / program data. D:\ 1TB HDD, has a bunch of backup data and an bunch of programs installed E:\ 500GB SSD, exclusively for P3D installation and add-ons Any advice for me either on the upgrade parts or especially on …

Hi all, Looking for some advice on a new system and wondering which of the two above processors to build it around. My primary uses: Flight sim (P3D), obviously... Games 3ds Max (primarily model creation, but also rendering) Photoshop 4K All of the above are of roughly equal importance and are kind of linked, as I'm a developer. In addition, I'd like to add video editing, though that's of less importance right now. I do work with very large files and often have multiple apps open (Max and Photoshop for e.g.). My intention is to pair the system with an RTX 2080 Ti. Whilst expensive, it does deliver the goods at 4K. A fe…

Just a heads up for anyone building a new rig, have a read of this thread from Overclockers (probably about the most respected hardware forums in the uk). If anyone has been here long enough to remember Mul (the hardware wizard on here years ago), Overclockers are who he used to work for https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/warning-for-all-motherboard-owners.18840442/ I usually use Gigabyte boards, but went with an Asus because of the cpu+motherboard cashback scheme they were doing. I won't be using any more.

Hello, I'm building a new PC to replace my laptop, most of the components are finalised, I just need help choosing a GPU and a display. At my budget, I'm down to the 1070 and the 2060. For normal games, the 2060 comes ahead of the 1070, but I'm worried about the 6GB memory on the 2060. Is the 2GB extra memory worth going for the 1070 ? I could, in theory, get the RTX 2070, but that would require cutting down on storage options. Regarding the display, I want to get a 144Hz display, but I'm worried about how well the flight sims will go with it ? How will v-sync work with it ? I doubt P3D or X-Plane can do 72fps stable to keep up with the monitor. For the pro…

Any feedback would be good. I do not have 4k. So 1920x1080. So I feel I don't need the huge expense of an RTX2080-2080Ti to run P3D @ 1080. PC https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk-gaming-germanium-x-overclocked-gaming-pc-intel-core-i9-9900k-4.8ghz-fs-1d3-og.html Thank you.

I purchased a gtx 1070 video card but that is all so far because I don’t know what mobo, cpu or ram to get. I was going to get the ryzen 7 2700x but I only play to games on my computer. FSX and DCS. DCS is apparently single thread and I’m not sure what FSX is but do I need that big of a processor? Do I need a top of the line motherboard? What ram do I choose? I have been searching for a week or so now watching YouTube videos and reviews all over the web. It’s pretty much just a daily PC and to use for DCS and FSX.

Hello, fellow simmers, at the moment I'm running an i5-4690k at a stable 4.6 GHz, cooled by a bequiet DarkRock 3 Pro. Now I plan on upgrading after four years with this system due to performance reasons in P3D v4 (ORBX, AS, REX SkyForce, EFB v2, some Airports, UT live, mostly PMDG 737NGX, QW 787, TFDi 717). Money isn't really an issue, but certainly I would want to get the most for my money. CPU wise I've narrowed it down to the 9700k or the 8700k - almost same price here. On the other hand I could save quite some money buying a 2nd hand 8700k and save around €150,- What would be your choice? Regarding the Mainboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F vs. ASUS Prime…

Hi All, I have been flying X-Plane 11 exclusively with my current setup (i5 3570K @ 4.4, Water cooled, 16 GB DDR3 and GTX 1080TI) For the most part considering the processor is getting a little long in the tooth it has performed admirably. Last year I added the 1080TI and now as I expected find my system CPU bound. It isn't horrific but I now have a chance to upgrade to an i5 9600K & 16 GB DDR 4 3000 I was just wondering if you think this CPU combination would be well paired with my 1080 TI? I currently use a 42 inch 1080P LG TV and don't have any plans right now to go to 4K. I do use a fair amount of Ortho scenery along with quality payware aircraft. …

I have noticed that after my P3D installs a fair amount of drive space is eaten up, taking my P3D install drive almost to zero, making it hard to upgrade the sim when bug releases and upgrades are released. I finally raked my P3D install drive for large files using an advanced search and found that P3D left a ton of cab files on my hard drive (really not a ton, I am exaggerating lol) but enough to eat up about 17 gigs or so of hard drive space in the form of left behind cab files in folders that have nothing to do with the P3D install. How rude, (just kidding Lockheed Martin, I love P3D). So my tip if you want to free up drive space, do a search and destroy on these ca…

I've been out of FS for a year or so. Before that I flew mainly FSX. I tried P3D up to 4.1 but there were too many glitches. I am sure it was more my system than P3D itself. I deleted it and got my money back. Now, I am picking up flying again but my first couple of flights with FSX in my old system ended with screen blurries - Orbx scenery lost all its detail. The PC is about 6 years old - Ivy-Bridge i7-3770K not clocked as the BIOS on my Gigaboard is almost impossible to get into, even using a PS2 keyboard. Let's not go into that issue, please! Graphics is GTX 770 4GB, DDR 8GB, plenty of HDD storage, Windows 7 x64bit. So, what to do? W7 is on its wa…
