Hi guys I recently bought a couple of 3Tb HDDs which are larger than I'm used to using. Are there any disadvantages to setting these to GPT? I'm not looking to boot from them. They're purely for data storage.

  2. Have the 9th Generation Intel i7-8086k, MSI GTX 1080Ti and am contemplating a motherboard for it. I'd like to seek advice/opinions/suggestions,et al, here from fellow experienced hardware-orientated simmers I have ruled out anything that carries the name Gigabyte, so please do not even mention it to me, please. After their diabolical support with replacing a goofed GPU, in Ca., of all places, I will not touch any of their products with a barge-pole! Have read up on the Asus Prime Z390 9th Generation, as it has PS/2 rear connectors which is what I want. Asides from the niceties of how this or any other motherboard performs, at the end of the day, what is this mot…

Hi, I had my CPU professionally de-lidded and running at 5GHz with a massive 1.4 vcore! I've run Realbench for 30 minutes with temps in mid 80s. At 4.8GHz/1.28v I have no issues, with temps under 70. I'm running RAM on XMP 3000 MHz with 1.36v. I upped this from stock 1.35v to get Realbench running for more than a few minutes. I don't understand why I have to throw so much vcore at this cpu. Most BIOS settings I've left on auto and have LLC at 6. Any suggestions for tweaks to try and bring the vcore down? Does it matter where you install an AIO radiator - top of case or front? Also what direction for airflow? I plan to install a Corsair 115i pro into Corsair 750D airflow case. Thanks. Bruceb

  7. I've started down the road on this SSD upgrade project: https://www.overclock.net/forum/355-ssd/1718404-nvme-pcie-x4-drive-z87-running-win7.html I'm going into this with my eyes wide open: trading a really tiny bit of graphics performance for blistering fast SSD performance (worth it!). The drive is taking seeming forever to arrive. I got the Win7 hotfixes installed and a modded bios ready to flash my mobo. I won't flash until I see that Win7 works with the drive in my mobo; the flash is only needed to make the drive bootable. I'll post an update when it all comes together.

Well guys, after much deliberation I have purchased a Saitek X52 j/s and a nice piece of kit it is. However, programming it for FS9 is not proving so easy. I have d/l the profile from the Saitek site but find it to be far too complex and confusing. Would anybody out there (in here :-roll ) who has a profile for fs9 that they are happy with be prepared to email it to me.....it doesn't necessarily need to have all modes programmed.Thx in anticipation.

  10. This question is similar to another one I asked recently about hard drive speed but wanted to keep this one specific to the processor core counts. So here goes. Recently I started flying faster jets and when getting lower to the ground the dreaded blurries show up. My question is IF anyone is interested in trying. Pick a saved flight, ORBX or Megascenery is fine and record the time it takes to load up the scenery. Then go into the BIOS and enable only six cores. Pick the same flight plan to load and record the load time. (If you only have 6 cores to start, go to the next step) Then go into the BIOS and enable only four cores. Pick the same flight plan …

I'm not well versed with overclocking, I just normally follow the video guides and I try to change as very little as possible. So far, on my Asus Maximus XI Hero I only changed the core clock to 48, best scenario, and the voltage. I started initially with 1.25v which gets me up to 80c when testing on IBT. Today, I adjusted my voltage decreasing .05v after every test to see how low I can go without any issues. I run it everytime on IBT with very high option enabled for 5 passes. The lowest I got is 1.150v (HWmonitor max showing 1.146). Unbelievable. Now my temps even with PMDG 777, mid settings, etc. never exceeds 67c. I am not sure if this is okay, my main quest…

Hello ! I dont know if Im in the right place for this, but ill try. I haven´t been playing flightsim for a long time, but i want to start up again, this time with P3d. Recently I decided it was taking too long for scenery to load before my flight. Currently I use a 500GB M.2 drive with a read/write speed around 500MB/sec. So I decided if I bought a shiny new NVME pci x4 drive with 2500MB/sec. I could possibly see a x5 fold increase in loading times. So after imaging the new drive and swapping it in place of the old I got my trusty timer out and ran the same saved scenery and tada. Wanna know how much faster it was...... 0 seconds..... I bench marked the drive, it IS 5 times faster then the old, but I have a constraint somewhere. So am I really waiting on my processor to ahem... process??? Thoughts???

  16. Which would be better to install Megascenery photoscenery for use with P3Dv4? I bought the entire US on sale with the drive, and the bits were delivered on the drive. My preference is to just add to the scenery library and run from the USB drive as is. Am I better off installing to an internal SATA drive instead?

  18. I have a 960 Pro NVMe PCIe M.2 500GB that is getting full. But just in general how much headroom should be left in an SSD to maintain optimal performance?? 5%, 10%, 20%?? Also, I am installing another 860 Pro via SATA III (2 TB). I will be moving Orbx and mesh over to the new drive to free up space and using a symbolic link to the original P3D folder. Will I be losing any performance from the sim by going this route? Thanks, Doc

  19. A recent FS computer upgrade left me with an old computer to rebuild and purpose for our home "office" that has not had a computer ever before. The computer build itself has been on the shelf for about 5-6 weeks, but worked perfectly fine when it was last powered down. A couple hard drives were reused on the FS computer and the graphics card swapped back to an older graphics card. No core components were changed. The build was moved from a gaming style case that wasn't felt to be reasonable in appearance for a more public space in the home to a different, more contemporary case. I currently have everything seemingly connected, but nothing will happen with the p…

Hi, I have Intel i3-6100 3.7GHz and yesterday I bought new GPU Nvidia GeForce 1060 GTX 6GB so now I want to buy new and better CPU for sure. I have also old 2x 4GB DDR4 2133MHz CL14, probably I will buy new one in few weeks but at this time I will keep these old. If I didn't know P3D I would take i5-8400 surely because it's enough for GTX 1060 and it's really good CPU for any game and price performance ratio is great. But I want something more better than i3-6100 (talking just about P3D) and i5-8400 is 50% better than i3-6100 but just 15% better in single-core speed. 1) So I'm asking for your opinion how many more FPS can I get with i5-8400 ? 2) H…

As it's this time of the year again, and i really want to move on from my current potato, i'd like to finally get to know the truth. I want to run P3Dv4. So, is the myth true, or not, that ryzen isn't proper to ESP?? I've heard tons of gibberish about that on almost every forums and i'm kinda lost. Since ryzen is better on the multicore and intel on the single core, what's the best? I've been using my core 2 quad for the last 2 years and since ryzen looks by far more interesting, just wanted to know. I'm looking at this subject with a "budget" point of view. TBH, ryzen 7 is already too expensive. But what about ryzen 5 and 3? Did the 2nd gen "fix" the lack users reported?…
