Hello,I am rebuilding an older computer as practice for building a new system.I have stripped the case down to the power supply only and have purchased an inexpensive MB/CPU for practice. Is there an order (step by step) to go through to get the system up and running with basic capability?Maybe there is a tutorial for the process. Thanks in advance,Ron Sagel

Any experts on game controllers here?I am having this problem that is driving me nuts.I am running up-to-date Win XP and have Saitek Cyborg 3D stick which plugs into my USB port. When I boot up I normally see the icon for the joystick show up in my bottom toolbar. But there are times when it is not there, I go to the control panel and then to game controllers and Windows is telling me I have no controller installed. When I plug the controller in and out I can hear the "ping" sound but still - the controller is not there.I am not sure if I can make the stick to appear consistently at the boot time but if it is not possible what do I do to at least load time afterward. Other…

I was all set to wait a couple of weeks, let it get cheaper, and then pop in the e8600. Then I read this: http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20080917PD213.htmlIs my upgrade plan still sound, or with the price drops is there a way to go quad core (with at least 4gHz or better) at the same $250 or less price-point?Sam, Gary, Nick et al- thoughts please!Best-Carl F. Narrowing down my PC purchase. The builder is giving me the option to have my CPU overclocked, although it would add price. Is this something that is easy enough for me to do? I know some about voltages, etc. Here is the CPU spec:INTEL, Core

Nvidia has posted a new driver that I have found to work great. I am using the 260GFX card. The new drivers are 175.13. If you have a video card that may be able to use them, I would give them a try. Bob G.

OK... i admit I do waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much tweaking, so I only have myself to blame...now, here' the problem. i have been trying to upload some digital photos to walgreens.com and or snapfish.com as I have routinely been doing for years...but, lately, I have not been able to get either website to accept anything. I suspect the problem may be xp rather than browser related because i have the same issue with either IE8 and Firefox 3. I've googled the issue looking for answers with no success so far...I'm hoping someone here has a solution. thanks...Sherm

Hi all,My CPU runs a lot hotter than other CPUs I know of. It's a G0 stepping. Idling, it runs at 49-49-45-44 degrees Celsius. In FSX, it runs to the high-50s to high-40s. Prime95, it runs in the 80s-70s. I know a LOT of people who can take their quad up to 3.3-3.4 GHz on a Thermaltake V1, but if I do it, the CPU overheats very quickly on Prime95, despite having some of the best cooling around: 2 25 cm fans and 4 12 cm fans in the case. In FSX it runs to the mid-60s and low-70s. I have to stick with 3.2 GHz. And my 3DMark06 score is pretty low compared to other systems with my setup. Is there something wrong here? Thanks,

This may have been asked before, but,I can't find where.I'm computer literate, but, not a computer geek. Simply put:What/Where is a buy-it-off-the-shelf computer system that I could buy for under $1000 that would run FS9 very well, and FSX at least "reasonably"/"fairly" well without major amounts of involved tweaks to the computer, but is enhanced by tweaks within MSFS? Not planning on buying scenery additions (well, maybe Fscene4X, if it is worth it....is it???) that require higher end power, but just maybe some of the downloads here on avsim.I want to spend time flying, not trying to get the computer to work miracles. Don't really have the ability to do the computer …

Ordered the below 8800GT card today and was wondering what I need to do to make sure I have a clean install and what drivers I should use. I have never replaced a video card but have replaced memory modules so go easy on me. I think I read somewhere that you need to get rid of the other drivers etc. What steps 1 thru ?? do I need to take in order to accomplish this replacement?I currently have:6600 Dual core conroe processor overclocked to 3.16gig4 gig of matched Pc2-800 ramRadeon ATI 1600/1650 graphics card w/512 meg21" gateway widescreen monitor120 gig hitachi hard drivemain processor cooler w/fan PNY VCG88512GXEB-FLB GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x…
