Here's something everybody here already knows. And you all tried and found unhelpful. So it is a perfect opportunity to make a fool of myself by posting an imagined hot tip :).msconfig has a boot.ini tab with an Advanced button wherein you can tick your choice for the number of processors used while booting Windows.Speeded my very sadly unoptimized rig from 5+ minutes to 3+. And I only have a dual core.

Hi all,My father and I have decided to add an additional hard drive with Windows XP SP3, most likely 32-bit. Apart from the fact that I will lose DX10 support and not all 4 GB of my RAM will be recognized, what will be different in FSX while using XP?Just a sidenote, FS9 doesn't work on my system ("Your computer has run out of memory..."), so I'm looking forward to seeing if it'll work on XP.Thanks, sorry if this has already been asked!Regards,

Hi, I was thinking of dumping my 2 9800GTX 512 cards for a 1GB 280? FSX does not use SLI mode. Any advanage? Thanks,GregGreg Moorehttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/for...argo_hauler.gif

Hi, I have 8 GB 800 of SLI ready ram. My 780i board only supports 4GB of SLI ram. So the other 4 is a waste. Should I upgrade my ram to a faster 1200 and only run 4GB? I read FSX only needs 4 GB to run.Greg Moorehttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/for...argo_hauler.gif

Hi there - first post so be nice.Does anyone know if it possible to use two *USB* saitek pro throttle quadrants for twin flying (2x throttle, 2X prop, 2X mixture) if you don't have a Saitek yoke?I know that the yoke comes with 1 quadrant (not USB) and that you can get an additional USB quadrant, but what if you don't have a Saitek Pro yoke?---------------The wordy background information if you're interested:The reason I'm asking is that I have bought the Saitek yoke that comes with a throttle, plus an extra throttle quadrant and the saitek rudder pedals and have spent the last couple of weekends setting them up in FSX using FSUIPC4 where needed.I have to say I'm quite unh…

Just curious, is memory bandwidth the spec to look at while comparing cards?

Is this card:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130370Better than the original 8800GTX?The 8800GTX only has a 384bit memory interface and this new 260 has a 448 I think. Is this a good card for FSX? What about for other games, like shooters etc?

Hi all,I am seeking advise on PC hardware. It's been a few years since my last update, and it's time to do something about it.These are the things still unclear to me. Responses are greatly appreciated :). I am only seeking advise to run FSX, nothing else matters for this machine!1. Dual Core or Quad Core? The E-series Dual Core CPUs are very powerful. But then again, so are the Quads. It's a bit unclear to me, if FSX will benefit from having more than two cores in the CPU. I remember at one time there was even discussion here, if the extra 2 cores in Quad would actually be a bad thing to have. That they only assist when multiple smaller programs are run in the side (such …

My track IR came in today and all I have to say is WOW! I am still working on getting the feel of it but love it so far. I have a couple of questions for you Track IR 4 w/clip users.1) Are there any settings that are a must I should use?2) I have the trackClip Pro and even though I have TrakClip Pro selected in the motion tab at the bottom of that window it says it is using vector tracking. Is that just a bug? Thanks in advance for your advise.Jim

A few months ago I picked up a new system that came with 4 gigs of Corsair dominator Ram and it came with Vista 32.I just upgraded (yes upgrade lol) to Windows XP SP3. I was wondering if I should run with 3 or 4GB of ram. I see XP does recognize the 3 but from what I've heard it won't take 4 so I have the 4th gig out right now. Should I put it in or not?Oh and anyone who thinks XP will only use 1 gig of ram need not reply, that's complete rubbish lol.

I want to relate a new experience I've had with the eDimensional 3D glasses that I got a couple of days ago...I just did a search and the last threads I saw about these glasses were all back in 2004 and 2005...Most E3D users probably think that under Vista and FSX their glasses are useless due to NIVIDA dropping E3D support, but I came across a solution that is definitely on the right path to full E3D support again in Vista and FSX...The quest for a solution started when I discovered:A) Nvidia no longer supported E3D LCD Shuttered glasses with their new 8xxx series of 3d Stereo Drivers:( No Vista native eDimensional 3D drivers (users require XP to use the default CD insta…

Just a quick question since I'm still not in the PCI-E era myself but am now planning a new system (probably not really buying it for a few months though :))If I got myself a new GFX card with 1GB GDDRx memory (or even 2GB!) but had only 2GB of system RAM (I'm still going to be running XP), would I end up with problems because I heard that the PCI-E card takes over a block of system memory equivalent to it's onboard GFX memory size... Or have I missed the point?Geoff

Hi,I've always thought its because of the low FPS i seem to get but even when the FPS aren't an issue (30-35FPS) i still get white textures on AI Aircraft when looking left/right etc. I can look right one minute then again a minute later and i still have to wait for FS to reload the AI textures. I've tried messing around with TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT values but it doesn't seem to make much difference.Anybody any ideas, surely it must be possible to eliminate the loading time and just have the textures load instantly, especially when the FPS are high, i could understand it if it only happened when they were low, but it doesn't...Thanks,Nat

Hello sim nuts I am currently shopping for a new processor and I am not sure which route to take. My current system is as follows, core 2 duo e66004gb ramevga 8800 gts super clocked (x1)vista home premiumwd 7200 rpm 250gb hdfsx sp246" samsung 1080p monitor (SWEET FOR SIMMING) Now I'm pushing around 15-24 fps with med low settings across the board, not bad but still choppy. Makes hand landing a 737 with bad weather a little tough. So my question is if I get the q9550 quad core cpu do you think there will be a considerable difference? or is it a waste of money. If some one has a better idea I'd love to hear from you! many thanks Rick, BC Canada

A quick question - it is said that FSX requires sheer CPU horsepower. I was therefore wondering what expert opinion was on changing CPU from Q6600 to E8600? I am not into overclocking (mainly because I don't understand how:( ), I work on stock speeds. Given the stock speed of the 8600 is something like 3.3Ghz, and the Q6600 2.4Ghz, is there any material advantage (forget cost, as I'm not concerned about that). Thanks for your thoughts!David

hello, I am thinking to buy the opencockpit 737mcp and my question is that: i have also goflight product and there is a problem with their product that there is no "talking" between the console and the simulator especially with the PMDG and the LEVELD the problem with their mcp is that there is no sync between the numbers on the mcp to those in the aircaft . also there is no syn with the light in the mcp to those in the aircaft. for example is you are flying and the mcp in on VNAV and for any reason the VNAV is disconect, the light on the mcp is still on!!!!!! so there is no sync between them. i am asking if the mcp of opencockpit have full sync (number on the leds , and …
