  3. Yes I have been waiting around 6 mounds for Nehalem to buy a new computer, and now that the wait is almost over I know I have a huge luxury problem. The main things I want are running in almost silence and still being able to do a little over-clocking on the processor(s) not the video cards.I know of the good new 4870X2 video card from ATI, but as I will only run FSX, IL2 and LockOn on this new system I selected nVidia for the video cards.Furthermore I also know that three cards in SLI for simulators is definitely overkill, so that's why I choose dual SLI.My choice is to wait until December for Core i7, but Skulltrail also still looks very attractive. What would be your cho…

Hi guysLike many others I'm attempting to finalise the specs for a new system for FSX and I am having difficulty in choosing between a E8600 duo and a Q9550 quad based system or simply waiting until the new Nehalem processors become readily available in Australia which could be 4 months after US release. I have read most of the the threads and it seems to be a matter of trading off higher FPS and better overclocking with the duo for faster texture loading with the quad - particularly when running other apps concurrently with FSX (which I will be). In terms of price there is not much in it. The difficulty I am having is trying to visualise the in-game benefit of faster…

Hi guys, In the process of building a new FS rig (seemingly a recurring side hobby in FS!)As I look at video cards, I was planning on keeping my EVGA 7900GS 256M cards. I have 2 in SLI configuration. My understanding (after buying the "double" hype of SLI) is that unless the software is written to utilize SLI it really has no effect. Looking at motherboards I have been restricting it to SLI boards, planning on keeping my current cards. However, the Asus board I am looking at is SLI with DDR2 memory. The Intel board I was looking at is not SLI but handles DDR3 RAM. My question... how valuable is SLI for FS? I only fly FS9 at the moment and probably will stick around. I hav…

Hey guys,I finally made the move and bought an E8400. Anyone has any experience with this processor and FSX?I have a couple of questions about this system I am building.1) I installed a fan on the case. What is better, to make it blow cool air from the outside to the inside? or to blow hot air from the inside to the outside? It is just a question of where should the blades point to.2) I noticed the heatsink that cames with the processor has some sort of thermal grease already on the contact area. Should I add any thermal stuff such as Artic Silver, or should I just leave that and accept that the stuff already there will do the job.ThanksLeo

I am in the process of building a new machine around an Intel 8400 (3Ghz) processor. My videocard is a GeForce 8800 GTS (320Mb) and I am going to install 4Gb of GSkill 800 high performance RAM. I have the latest superfast Raptor HD 320Gb SATA2 version. The motherboard, on the other hand, seemed to have all the features I was looking for. However, after I purchased it from NewEgg, I looked at some reviews and they said that it was a good board but that it only supports a single channel RAM setting (It uses the nForce 630i). Had it shown that on the NewEgg site, I would not have purchased it.I only want this machine for FS9 and Windows XP.You guys are probably wondering why …

I guess this post is to get som comon sense out of people. I constantly see posts from people asking will this hardware run fsx and others saying you need this and that and really there is no evidence in what they say. Please if you can prove me wrong then show it.1. FSX will do better with a 3 gig dual then a 2 gig quad. Its all about bandwidth.2. FSX only needs 2 Gig ram especially with XP 32 bit not sure with vista, but if anyone can show me memstatus with some figures that would be nice. I have simply not seen FSX use then more than abt 1.6 Gig of ram total with OS. And thats with most sliders all way to right in heavily populated areas.3. Mem speed. Simpy put the fas…

Hi there,I have recently installed FSX on my new system, and I am kind of mad that even after 4 days of tweaking the settings I am stuck because of, as it seems to me, a stupid programming failure:When I fly above 10.000 feet, I can achieve well over 30 FPS, but the ground textures tend to get a blurred mess after a few minutes. So I set the Target Frame Rate to 25, and it works: solid 25 FPS and visibly better texture loading, no more or at least much less blurries. This is especially obvious when flying with highend VFR scenery such as Aerosoft's VFR Germany. However, once I am on final, or even on the ground, the Target Frame Rate kills my FPS. Sitting at 25R at EDDF I …

  16. Hi guys,I recently purchased a Sapphire 4870 for FS2004 and seem to be getting some intermittent shimmering (i.e. when I start a session of FS2004 things might look nice and sharp and clear with no shimmering and then in the next session for some reason the shimmering might start)This is confusing as I am not changing my card settings. If anyone could provide their Catalyst Control Center settings and FS2004 settings, I can then compare and have a play with it.Thanks for your help.Kind Regards,Ralf.....

HiWould i probably be unhappy with the frame with if I used an 8600GT vs a 9600gt or 9800gt series card. I would like to run the sim at 1024, or 115x200 with the settings in about the middle. I have been hearing elsewhere that if you want to run FSX decently you would be better off staying away from the 8600GT and spending the extra dollars for the 8800 or above. My target frame rate goal would be at least 10 to 12 on the ground and 15-20 or greater in the air at a reasonable altitude.Any opinions?ThanksZach Bender K7LTF

Folks, I wish to OC my trusty stock E6600. I would be happy with 3.0 Ghz and from the good reading on this forum, that looks very possible. However, I may have struck a snag with RAM. I am running 4x1Gb DDR2 PC2-5300 (333Mhz) Kingston. All the OC advice appears to recommend DDR2 800.Where does this place me in terms of overclocking?Motherboard GA 965P-DS4 (Rev1)Any advice would be most appreciated.RegardsJock McIntyre (YMML)

I installed the SP3 upgrade to XP the other day and since doing so, when I boot up FS9 in full screen mode, the 3D aircraft selection window is black. If I use alt + enter and go to windowed mode, the 3D view returns no problem. When I fly in full screen mode the sim performs normally unless I try to pull up an app like FS Navigator in in which the main screen goes black except for the NS Nav screen. This didnt use to happen.Do I need to reinstall drivers or something?Eric

Okay, so if FSX is more CPU dependent than video card, does that mean that the faster the CPU, the better it will run? Right now I'm using a P4 2.8 ghz CPU. Next week, I am picking up my new PC which will have quad cores, but they only run ar 2.66. I will be using Vista 64 Home Premium which I understand will sort of use more than one core. I know I will have more performance (because GeForce 260 and 4 gig of fast ram), but CPU wise, am I ahead?

My computer recently lost the fs9.exe file and it is impossible to access all my PMDG planes now. I have DISC 4 but when I double click on the icon nothing happens. I looked in explorer and could not locate where the fs9.exe went. My problem is two-fold, as I lost my other 3 discs for FS2004.Is there any way to undo this mess or should I just break down and order a new copy of FS2004? jack
