  1. I am putting together another machine for me honey and I have an older Enermax 486W ATX PS that is fine as far as total watt rating goes, with a 20A 12v rail, and the board I am using has integrated intel graphics. She plays no games, so this is fine. The board is an ASUS P5Q-VM. Does anyone know if it is safe to use the 20-pin off the PSS to connect to the 24-pin mainboard slot? The extra 4-pin +12v ATX connector on the PS fits on the female socket on the mainboard no problem. I've searched the web and found some guidance, but it didn't sound definitive enough for me to risk it. What do you know? There are adaptors for sale, but as far as I can tell it really doe…

I am building a new machine with 4gb ram.I am intending to install Vista 64 bit but more than one supplier has advised me against it saying that issues will arise with drivers. The new machine is primarily for flight sim but other applications will doubtless get onto it.I see Vista 64 as the future but am I likely to get significant driver problems with it at the present time?John M.

I'm getting tired of worrying about my CPU temps - usually in the 60 - 68c range in FS9 (yes, FS9), well shy of TJMax, I know -- but I've been battling CTDs and OOMs the last month or so and think it's time I try liquid cooling. I've been to FrozenCpu.com and it seems they have the best stuff for sure, and I liked the fact that they have a LC heat sink for my ATI card, but I really just want a simple, all in one system for my first venture into this area, and don't want to worry that I've ordered all the right parts, etc.Would you guys give me some "recommendations/don't forget about/complete shopping list" based on your past experience and knowledge or research? How do…

Last spring I bought customized a Vertigo X10 computer configuration to run my FSX and then separately added a Viewsonic 21.3" 4x3 LCD monitor. The system itself, which comes factory overclocked at 3.45 MHz in a dual core Intel configuration gives very satisfactory performance with FSX but that is not really what I want to comment about. Instead, I want to give kudos for the outstanding service I received from Greg Sanderson, the owner of Jetline Systems, after the sale. Jetline operates out of Brooksville, FL, and I live in Maryland. Right from the beginning, Jetline worked with me to schedule a delivery time that did not conflict with my summer vacation schedule. HelloAfter some upgrades, I now have two HDDs. I have reformatted and would like to ask if FSX runs better on the boot drive or a separate drive? Or does it make much difference? I think my preference would be the second drive. I have upgraded ram(1066),added a 500gb HDD,and a middle of the road MB(MSI). A modest upgrade, but much better than I had.Bob

  11. Crysis seems similar to FSX when using a single GPU,it's very hard to get good frames rates with eye candy on.Toms Hardware is reporting, the new top of the line chip only equals the current best Core 2 chip, when a single GTX280 is used.http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i...ing,2061-7.htmlSeems FS 11 needs a complete rewrite for multi CPU/GPU setups .Does not look like we will ever see hardwarethat can run FSX like we hoped would happen by now. Will MS commit the time and money to FS 11?Is the PC gaming market is just getting too small compared to consoles?

Hi everyone! Ive only posted a few times here and have received awesome help from the user groups so far, so Im hoping you can help once again in offering opinions.Im in the market for a new system with a very high budget. Ive been doing some looking around at different components, and am completely lost in what exactly to look for to run FSX with several addons, at the highest quality with the best performance. I know FSX will not utilise the features of a Quad core, but I also want to be ready for the next version of FS which undoubedly will have even higher system requirements. Having said that, Ive heard that FS11 will be setup for Quad, meaning investing in a Quad no…

  15. I just got a new rig built with an Intel Quad core Q6600, 4 gig of DDR2 ram, 2 500 gig HDDs, an Asus Nvidia 9800 GT with 512 ram, and Windows Vista Home Premium. It plays everything else wonderfully (just got Brothers in arms Hells highway, which people report as being problematic on even higher end machines, and that flies), but FSX, patched to SP2, barely gets above 9 FPS.I have to admit, that is with everything maxed out apart from the trafic, which is almost nil. Thing is, if I knock the sliders back to really minimum settings, nothing really changes. The Vista rating for my system is 5.1 (5.9 being the graphics card). I notice microsoft rate the game at 5.I haven't b…

Very strange effect recently with my Saitek X36 joystick: there is a lag of about 3 seconds between a movement of the stick and Windows XP detecting the movement. I first thought it was a problem in FS2004 (makes it impossible to control a plane!), but subsequent tests show the effect in the Windows/ControlPanel/GameControllers/Calibration screen with FS not running.FS2004 frame rates remain extremely good.No warnings show in Device Manager. The X36 is USB, and I have lots of other USB devices attached, most but not all through powered USB hubs.Recently installed USB items:Saitek pedalsTrackIR 4Logitech microphone/earphonesUSB item installed for a long time:Saitek X36lots…

Hi!I have been using FS2004 for years. Currently it's running on a Vista x32 Home Premium with a GeForce 8800GTS graphics card. Recently I upgraded the Nvidia drivers to 178.28. Using nHancer I have tweaked everything to look excellent ... except landing lights at night! As you can see in the attached screenshot the landing lights are not smooth, instead there are horizontal lines going across the withe light and the colors in the textures is looking like 16-bit textures.I have checked my resolution, it is 1280x1024x32. Changing it to 16-bit makes i all worse with greenish textures instead. What's wrong? Is there a remedy for this?// Olahttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/19…

My system; Pent 4 3.2, 3Gigs ram, XP2, Nvidia 6800 256mb Could someone please advise whether or not and which card would make an investment worth it. In the near future I will be building a new system and can possibly utilize this card in it.
