Hi,I'm looking into getting a new pc and ditching the 6 year old Athlon 1700+ model! The likelihood is i'll be running FS9 with PMDG 737NG, active sky, some AI traffic and a few commercial sceneries. Money is a bit tight, what sort of spec would i be needing to run FS9 at a decent frame rate? Obviously there is no set minimum or ideal system but any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated. I have a Q6600 CPU that I am about to OC on an X38T GB motherboard, and wish to try some better RAM. Hello All,Well, I watched the other posts on these subjects and even added one of my own . . .much to my dismay, after posting I went and looked at MY BIOS and found that I was running default -- Puter flashed BIOS screen, wife didn't know what it was and hit default. My big problem is I had it OC'd really well to 3.76 and it was perfect for my uses. Where I wrote it down it is no longer around....so, my memory is NOT so good so I need a little help....I think JK and a few others have gone through this recently, so please...I'll make a print out this time and paste it to the caseLOL. :) :)Attention Nvidia users - The latest driver 180.48 was recently released and has made a very nice improvement to FSX frame rates in my rig. In addition, I installed the Novemeber Direct X update from MSFT. Together, I've seen anywhere from 10-20% jump in frames and overall performance has increased.:) :)

Last night while trying to download the latest update for DirectX, my computer just shut down cold. I rebooted, and in less than a minute, same thing, shuts right down with no warning. I waited about 10 minutes and rebooted again. It went a few minutes longer before it completely shut down again. My box is just over a year old. I'm thinking ... Power supply. What do you guys think?

I have a Q6600 running at 3.6GHZ (9 x 400) and am thinking about getting a new Q9650, E0 stepping, that has been shown to easily run at very close to if not at 4 GHz. With best case senerio, how much would that improve things for FSX?-jk

Hi. My new system will be based around an i7 965 w/6GB of DDR3 RAM and a GTX 280 video card. 1. I've gotten the impression that I have to use Vista 64 to properly run this setup with FSX. Is this correct or can XP32 be used successfully? I was kinda hoping I could put XP32 on a second drive so that I could run FS9, CFS 2/3, and some other fighter jet combat programs that I have and utilize the speed of this newer machine. 2. DirectX 9 or DirectX 10? It seems that somewhere I read where FSX was having problems with DirectX 10. Or maybe that was just with some add-on. Thanks,

Im ready to build my new system and have a few questions.The CPU's in question are: Q9650 @ 3.0 GHz, Q9550 @ 2.83 GHz, or the i7 940 @ 2.931) Would I see much difference from the Q9550 vs the Q9650 to justify the extra money? Which one would OC better?2) I havent seen anybody post about the i7 940 here as of yet so how or does anybody know yet how the Q9650 would compare to the i7940? These 2 can be had for almost the same price. Im not in the market for an Extreme version but am willing to pay for the next best. What do you guys (gals) think and what other options would be equally as good?

I initially discovered this from installing FSUIPC 4.3.3.3. At times the POV hat would move smoothly, but at other times it was quite jerky. I blamed either FSUIPC or add-ons that I had recently installed until I eliminated them and noted slower frame rates for the same saved flight. The slower performance appears to be somewhat random in nature as to when it is present. I have tried running Task Manager when it's both working fine and when it's not, and the list of processes appears to be the same identical lists, the only diference being that the FSX process seems to be consuming less memory resources when performance is decreased ("36K" when not performing best to …

Hi gang,I've been out of the FS world for the most part lately, but want to get back in. I found this ad for a bare bones system from Tiger Direct and wanted opinions on whether or not it would be a good system for FS9 and/or FSX. I have a 8800gt.I uninstalled the 8800gt drivers and then used driver cleaner.I did not want to uninstall the mob Nvidia drivers.I then put the ATI card in the slot.I can see the intro screens,bios ect but then the screen goes black.I can hear the normal windows sounds so its loading but no screen.I cannot load the drivers if I cannot SEE the screen.So I put the Nvidia card back in and tried to install the ATI drivers.The installer stops as it does not see any ATI hardware.See where this is going?My computer meets all the specs.I have a option in bios for pci-e or pci.It has always b…

With the newer generation of processors and video cards, in particular the i7 940 and GTX 280 which I'll be using, does it slow things down by attaching two monitors to that single card? I know back a few yrs. ago it could really affect the performance of FS.Thanks,Jeff

I have a Asus A8V Deluxe S939 mobo. When trying OC I have experienced this. I raised the FSB from 200 MHz to 220 MHzto get my AMD 64 4000+ from 2.4 GHz to 2.6 GHz. Things seems to work fine but one day when I turned on my computer nothing happened at all. When I then pressed the resetbutton I got an error message saying 'Overclocking failed'. After going into BIOS and changing FSB one MHz I could boot my system. Then I tried raising FSB to 240 MHz. That resulted in a computer that not only didn't boot but also couldn't get me into BIOS. When buying RAM for the new i7 CPU do I have to buy the Tripple set or can I get RAM not purchased in a set. The reason is that there is not much choice, at least on newegg for a CAS 7 1333. If I were to get a (non set) and get 3 individual 2 GB sticks would there be any problems with that?Jim
