I was just curious how hot is too hot for a Geforce 8800 GT. I noticed that while running World of Warcraft or FSX it will creep up into the low 70s. Is this ok?I've been worried about it since the card did overheat in World of Warcraft once and it actually shut off, there's an issue with the last patch in wow that made some nvidia cards run like crap.Could someone with an 8800 comment on what their temps normally are in FSX and what is too warm for this card? Also which drivers are people using? The October 15 ones are crap, I went back to the 174 drivers that come from dell but tried the 180 beta too, not sure which ones to go with, the 174 run cooler but don't run as we…

To those who have quietly made the switch over to Vista from XP ... are there any regrets? I'm right on the edge of purchasing Vista Home Premium 64 in hopes of getting a more fluid feel for FS9 and more importantly FSX. I'm seeing more positive comments about Vista in various forums, so I'm tempted to make the jump. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi guys,The last year i was buying components to build a new system, when something i was looking for was on sale i bought it.At least half a year ago i bought a MSI 8800 ultra oc video card .Last week i had all the hardware that i needed to build my dream computer.Saturday night i plugged in the power connector, turned on the pc and immediately my motherboard was peeping and my video card wasn't working.:-mad I tried my older videocard and there was no problem.I know that you have to power the card with two pci power connectors so that is not the problem and i have a 1000W psu .So now i need a new videocard because i bought the MSI videocard at least half a year ago so …

At present I use a Asus A8V Deluxe Socket 930 that only supports SATAI 150 Gb/s. I now have one WD Raptor 150 Gb 10000 rpm. If I would get one more Raptor 150 Gb and set up a raid 0 array I would get these benefits1) A faster drive because of raid2) A bigger drive 300 Gb instead of 150 Gb. That would mean I could to greater extent place stuff at the outer tracks150 Gb is somewhat little. I now have it filled about 60%. So how much speed could be gained by the above factors ?

Several web sites already have i7 rigs for sale. Cyberpower is one and there are others. While it is early I am wondering how the i7 920 will perform in FSX compared to the quads and dual cores. The i7 920 is not priced that bad from Cyberpower. While I am sure a lot of people may have problems with them....some may not...but the point is a similar q6600 rig is about the same in price....not much difference at all. I guess will just have to wait to see someone post some performance results from the i7 920 and its big brothers.

I see the USB interface has been updated to 3.0 with backward compatibility with USB 2.0 hardware (but not 1.0 hardware like my Microsoft Force2 Feedback Joystick). It's suppose to be 10x faster than USB 2.0. Here's a link for more info: http://www.techspot.com/news/32496-usb-30-...peed-boost.html. Just wondering what, if anything, can be enhanced in FSX with this improvement. I doubt it won't have much affect. I know my mouse, keyboard, and 30" LCD screen are USB 2.0 approved but doubt that will speed up FSX with the new upgrade. I figure an external harddrive will probably be much faster though. Maybe that will help some FSX users in the future.Best regards,Jim

Hi guys, after spending several days on retrieving useful information in the web, my following problem could not be solved:The goal is to setup three different sized monitors for a virtual wide-view cockpit use WITHOUT a Matrox TH2GO hardware. The tricky point is to use TrackIR head-tracking for natural view adjustments over all three monitors without this Matrox addon. My monitor layout is as following: One center monitor, 30", 2560x1600 resolution, connected to a NVidia 8800 GTXTwo side monitors 21" positioned left and right of the center monitor, 1600x1200 resolution, connected to a second NVidia 8800 GTSAs I have read there is no possibility to get a horizontal span of …

Attention: elinks-In the thread "Multi Monitor-How to--",on Nov 14, you wrote- " I am trying to get the three cockpit views L,F,R on three identical monitors flat along the wall-----"------I missed this latter phrase. With such a flat/inline monitor setup, you will find it impossible to achieve a straight line horizon across all three mons in aircraft roll or pitch up/down.The reason is that each FS view is distortion free, ONLY when viewed with the screen at right angles (90

Found this interesting post on a user who installed FSX on a SSD and compared the load times to a dedicated raptor. Here's the key facts:On the WD Raptor 74GB (Dedicated HDD to FSX, no OS nor swap file on it):Loading FSX Time: 50secLoading the complex presaved scenery: 2min 24secOn the 32GB Masterdrive OX SSD:Loading FSX Time: 19 secLoading the same complex scenery: 48 secRead it all here: http://l45.sytes.net/?p=613#more-613Wow!, looks a dedicated SSD can do much more for FSX than a new CPU !The drive is only $125 on NewEgg too, it has slow write speeds but for FSX reading looks interesting?Maybe the Intel X25-M would be even faster?

Some time ago I bought a new set of speakers (Altec Lansing FX5051), a 5.1 USB connected sound system. The sound is great but I have a very annoying problem, on the back of the subwoofer I have a small switch with two positions...5.1 or 4-2. To have sound from all speakers when for instance looking at movies or listening to music I need to have this switch set to 5.1 and this is also true for FSX where this switch needs to be in the 5.1 position to hear for instance the sound from the aircraft engine from all speakers. However...when having the switch set to 5.1 the sound of ATC is all gone until I switch the button to the 4-2 position when the ATC sound is back but instea…

Hi FolksI run a dual boot (WinXP/Vista) system, normally with XP on the 1st partition of drive 0, and Vista on the 1st partition of drive 1. I used the std method when installing Vista for the boot choices. However, drive 1 has now failed, taking my Vista installation with it - dead! I've managed to put a previously cloned image (phew!) on the 2nd partition of drive 0 (after WinXP), using a bootable CD of Norton Ghost. When I boot, I still get the choice, but I can only now select WindowsXP.How can I make partition 2 bootable, AND tell it where to find Vista?I'm desparate on this now - can anyone please help? Thanks

ok, so for Xmas my folks said i could get either 2 Saitek throttles or 1 CH prod TQ. My question is which should i get? I am already using the CH Prod yoke and Rudder pedals, and love them, but i think im going to get the Saitek as it looks to have more range of motion and such. I have a few questions about the Saiteks:Do they make nice with other CH products, like my yoke and rudder pedals? Is their range of motion as good as it seems, also:Is it as vertical movement on it as it seems? Is there a detent for reverse thrust? is RT easy to setup- note: i have FSUIPCanything i should know about?Sam

  23. Hi,I think, if I remember correctly, I resolved this problem in the past by checking "Disable low level color correction" under General Options in ATI Tray Tools. However, this doesn't appear to be working under ATT v1.3.6.1042 with the 8.9 Cats.A color calibration .icm profile created by Spyder2Express is loaded automatically at system startup and this appears fine for general 2D use, including photo image editing. However, as soon as I run 3D games in full screen like, for example, Flight Simulator or Space Shuttle Mission 2007 these settings are lost and the monitor( Samsung SyncMaster 226BW 22" LCD Display Monitor (1680x1050x32) reverts to it's appalling default facto…
