If I replaced my DDR2-667 with 800's, would this push up my FSB (of which my MB is capable) to 1600?It is now 1033 (or ?)If not 1600, then what? the same? What would be the benefit if any of going with DDR2 800s ?Allen

Here's the deal. We bought a 500 GB HD so that we could wipe our 320 GB out, and put XP on it while cloning whatever was already on it (Vista 64) to the 500 GB drive. However, while installing XP on the 320 GB hard drive, XP decided suddenly that it wanted the 500 GB drive, and started partitioning it. Then, the installer got confused, and halted the partitioning. In the end, both the hard drives were wiped blank, and we lost everything. We found that the 500 GB disk was defective, and now I am stuck with XP 32-bit for the time being. What went wrong? My questions are, is there a way to dual boot XP and Vista on two separate hard drives without just partitioning one? If so…

Has anyone tested the difference in FPS in FSX between a CPU running with a 8x or 9x multiplier with everything the same?I am trying to overclock my CPU to 3.2 at 9x and I am having a rough go at it. Either it takes a huge amount of voltage to the CPU or the overall temperatures are pretty highHowever if I use an 8x multiplier everything appears stable and the temps and voltages are better. If it has been proven that a higher multiplier is better for FSX then I may scrap this chip get an Intel QX chipMy current CPUQ6600 G0 VID 1.3125

I have an 8800GT and Vista 32. What's NVidia's best driver right now for this card? I just downloaded 178.24's from the NVidia site but have NOT installed them yet.I'd love to hear from any of you with a similar setup as to the most stable and best driver for me now.I'm currently using the 177.92's.

**I'm not an expert. What works on my system doesn't mean it works on others**IntroWe all know that fsx is CPU dependent, but how much do the other items in a computer affect the fps. I attempt to find out. I know that frame rates don't tell the whole story, but it's hard to measure qualitative items, but I will attempt to try as well. How the tests are runFor these benchmarks I'm more interested in the low-end performance than top end, such as big cities and clouds. By running fsxmark07 and looking at the results I found that the low end numbers are during the first half of the test. So I only run fsxmark07 for 2.5 min instead of 5 min. For clouds I tried different cloud …

I've bought a combined unit of the saitek yoke and throttle. The throttle connects to the main unit via a ps2 port (like an old mouse port) rather than the usb. The power light on the quadrant is on. I cannot for the life of me work out how to setup and configure the throttle quadrant. The yoke works fine. At present I have A1/A2 as throttle, which is far from perfect. Please cansomeone help or email me the correct configuration file. I'm on fs9 with vista. Thanks.

I've been getting frequent BSOD's while playing Battlefield 2. I've also been having problems with odd colors that stretch across the screen with my video card. What is wrong with my system lol? I usually get the BSOD after about 2-3 hrs of BF2 gaming. The video card problems (2nd pic) occur after about the same time. Are these related?I have tested my RAM and it contains no errors, at least not on memtest. video card temps are fine, rarely about 55C. Any ideas?

I have a QX9650 on a Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 in an Antec 900 case. Any recommendations on a good cooler/fan to eventually clock at 4.0? The stock cooler/fan works pretty good at 3.0 and even when I brought it up (incorrectly I think) to 3.6 the temps idled at 35 and never exceeded 50c with FS9. The HS needs to be quiet and fit and I would prefer not to remove the MB for installation. Thanks,Michael

Not sure if anyone's noticed, but in the past couple of days there's been a small change in reports of Nehalem pricing. From Information Week yesterday: "The first chips being released are quad-core desktop models, the 920, 940, and 965 Extreme. Clock speeds are 2.66 GHz, 2.93 GHz, and 3.2 GHz, respectively, and prices in batches of 1,000 are $284, $562, and $999."Note: "...in batches of 1,000..."Full text here: http://www.informationweek.com/news/hardwa...cleID=212001056That seems to indicate that retail cost for all 3 chips will be somewhat higher. If true, just something else to factor in.Alan

I want to replace my relatively old PC by building a new one, speciallly fit for FSX.I looked around already on this topic, but things change fast nowadays.I'm thinking of a Intel Core2 Quad CPU on a Intel P45 chipset motherboard, or P35, X48, X58 better? RAM 4GB DDR3.Graphics GeForce 9800GTX+ 1GB.Present monitors are Acer 19" TFT and a brandnew Samsung T240 (24" TFT, 1920 x 1200 pixels). For FSX, is Intel CPU better than AMD? And nVidia better than ATI? With which GPU?Rumours are that 64bit Vista would (still) give problems with hard- and software; still valid argument? Thinking of putting the 19" on the left for sideview and 24" front for cockpit and frontview. Other pos…

Like it says... I'm trying to find out what impact the TripleHead2Go might have on a prospective FSX system.I'm considering a relatively high-end build - either a Nehalem-based rig if FSX-specific reviews are positive, or an overclocked Q9650 and (I hope correctly) tuned DDR3 memory.Videocard will probably be a GTX 280 (might go for an 8800 Ultra if they're still findable).Display options I'm considering are:-- 3 22" monitors running off a TripleHead2Go-- 3 19" monitors running off a TripleHead2Go-- A single large monitor (27-30")-- A connection to my existing 24" monitor via a KVM switchThe TripleHead2Go options are attractive for all the obvious reasons. But I just rea…

I now have everything (Win FS addons) installed on a Seagate 250 Gb IDE HD. I also now have purchased a WD Raptor 150 Gb HD. So of course I wan't to move everything to it. One option I know of is to use a program for disc cloning. I have found one called hdclone. I would need to pay 20 Euro since I intend to move to a smaller drive than the source. The whole point would be to save me a lot of work by not needing to reinstall everything.Does any body have any experience of this software? Does it work in practice? Is it simple and straightforward? Then it might be worth the money.

Hello,I'm using Vista 32 and Flight Simulator X.I upgraded my system to a Q6700 (1066) and GF9800GTX+ (512mb) at 1280x1024.My MB is a MSI P6N SLI V2, and I have 2 x 1gb (667) RAM (Dual Channel)BIOS is using AUTO / Default settings for CPU/Memory Timings.FSX is very smooth, but every few seconds it shows a quick pause / stutter like processing or loading something. Even at very low settings in FSX, I get the stutters. Before the upgrade, I was using a E4500 and GF8600, frames were lower, but without these pauses / stutters, it was constant. Now it is faster, better graphics, but some stutters every 4-6 seconds. Thanks so much for sharing your experience,Ulisses

Well, being a recent retiree on a pension with modest laptop system (below) now with hundreds to spend a year on the hobby instead of thousands, I'm considering an auxillary monitor for use instead of the built in 15" display. An 24 inch Acer which I noticed had some nice comments about in several gaming forums after I googled the model number:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16824009154The response time is 2 ms and the native resolution is Resolution 1920 x 1080 and price is $329 American.Meanwhile all seven of the 24" monitors down at Circuit city have a 5 ms response time (slower) and a resolution of 1920 x 1200 (denser) and are priced from $299 to $499 …
