I'm considering moving over to Vista 64 bit. I've noticed many Vista simmers use Ultimate. Is there greater benefit with Ultimate than Home Premium? I use both FS9 and X.

Hi GuysSeen I may have damaged my WinXP installation..... I can no longer start Windows 'Help & Support'.Why would I want to you may ask? Well, I actually need to run the XP 'Compatability Wizard', but that wont run without Help & Support. So far I have started 'services.msc' and set EVERYTHING possible to 'Auto'.I have also run 'msconfig' and removed 'selective startup', so all items are ticked.I've also run 'Autoruns' and made sure there's a tick in the 'Help & Support' box for the registry entry.I've checked my last backup of Windows and it's the same.I'm now at a COMPLETE loss!!!!Can anyone please help?

Couldn't find a review or thread on this topic.Any recommendations / feedback appreciated. The headset would only be used for ATC and voice in multiplayer - I use a 5.1 surround sound system for all other audio, so don't need anything fancy that vibrates or imitates 3d sound etc.Must be USB connection though. Thanks in advanceDaz

Just bought an HP Pavilion m9450f at circuit city, to replace my 4-5 year old server-type cheap PC for the express purpose of flightsim (and some light video editing on the side).Bought FSX Gold which has Acceleration in the same box. I did not try to run FSX before installing the acceleration pack so I don't know if that is the cause.Anyway, aside from the onboard wireless netowrk antenna being flakey, FSX is terrific except for some minor quips so far. At Philadelphia international airport (specifying just in case it is an airport specific issue) I noticed that the junctions between taxiway and runway were "flickering" with the taxiway trying to show through the runway.…

I was doing a flight over Alaska with the clouds below me (probably 8k below) and then realized that the cloud distance was set at 60 miles, so I moved to all the way to the right which then showed a sheet of clouds as far as the eye could see, and my frames dropped to around 10fps. I was running the Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz and the Ultra is not overclocked. So my question is if this drop in frames is a processor or GPU bottleneck?

I have a question about hard drive upgrades, I am fairly happy with my q6600 OC'd and 8800gts but have been unhappy with drive speed. My FSX folder is about 40GB in size and I was thinking about upgrading to a fster drive. what would be the best in you all's opinion for speed. I will keep the OS on a seperate drive and have FSX on its own drive.I plan on one of these two drives. Patriot Warp 64GB Solid State Hard Drive - SATAorWD VelociRaptor 150GB SATA HD 10K/16MB/SATA

I just bought a Palit 9800GTX+ to replace my 8600GT but will not be able to test the installation until next week and am able to exchange it until then. I have heard there are two things to watch with the 9800GTX+,1) You need a new motherboard because the 9800GTX+ has an extra power connector, is this true? What does this additional connector look like? I have a MSI P35 Neo Intel775 motherboard, will this need to change?2) The Palit card has a huge fan on the card which is apparently bigger than the normal fan, but what I hear is that the card is noisy. True?Would be good if someone could comment on this so I could exchange to a 4850 or a 9800GT or something else.ThanksSh…

Hi guys. I have the above Asus Maximus Formula Mobo and I am looking for recommendations for a CPU cooler. I just completed my first OC and after running Prime 95 I got some temps under full load at a max of 63 degrees, but averaging around 60 degrees. I am running an E8400 at 9 X 387 for a modest speed of 3.48ghz. Although 63 degrees max isn't too bad under test, and running FSX it only reaches around 58 degrees, I would like to try and get it cooler. Perhaps I could get to 3.6ghz more comfortably.I went to my local Microcenter tonight in Dallas and was recommended an OCZ OCZTVEND2 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835202007 . Fellow simmers, I am thinking about a hardware upgrade. While the step from 2GB to 4GB RAM is certain, I also want to upgrade my video card.I am currently running FSX in 1680x1050x32 on a E8500 (stock speed), GeForce 8800 GTS 640 and a Windows XP Pro System patched to SP3.My first attempt for the video upgrade was a Radeon 4870 512MB OC which was at least counterproductive. Apart from actually lower framerates compared to the 8800, I ran into serious issues with other applications.I am now thinking about a GTX 260 to retain my framerates in FSX and boost then in other apps. The GTX is not an option since I refuse to shell out the $$$ for that card. What are your experiences…

I now have an old Asus A8V Deluxe AGP s939 with a AMD 64 3200+ (OC 2.5 GHz) and 2 Gb PC3200 RAM and a XFX 7950GT 512M DDR3 with a 250 Gb 7200 rpm IDE drive and a 19" TFT screen and Win XP Home. From what I see there are three components that could be upgraded. Question is what and how much enhanced FS (and other games) experience could that give? The three components would be1) The CPUHere I must buy it on Tradera(eBay). I frequently see AMD 64 4000+ and AMD 64 X2 4600+ out for sale. A question here since I now can OC ny CPU from stock 2 GHz to 2.5 GHz does this mean I will be able to raise a new CPU with 2.4 GHz stock to 2.9 GHz? How much performence gain can I get from a…

If I would upgrade from my E6600 which now runs at 3,4Ghz to E8600, which would run at 3,8Ghz, am I looking into performance increase, both FS9 and FSX? If yes, what do you estimate in %?

Hello All,I would like to ask your opinion on a new computer. I run FS9 and would like to start working with FSX. I also use the computer for personal use. The computer is from Cyperpower and retails as is for $1500. I can tweak it abit and will probably wait until November before ordering to see if CPU prices come down any.CASE: Thermaltake Spedo Full Tower 420W Case w/ Side-panel WindowPOWER: NZXT PP800 Performance Power ATX 2.0 Power - Quad SLI ReadyCPU: (Quad-Core)Intel

I just wanted to thank you all for the help you gave me in selecting a decent system for FS.....for sure FS9, and hopefully at least a pleasant experience in FSX!I went back and forth on whether to try a first build, or not, or have someone build one for me. Well, I finally "chickened" out and am having one built for me by AVADirect. They had such great reviews from past cutomers, and, I'll have to admit that I had a very good experience talking with their sales rep, Matt, and ordering my computer. Here's the specs of the final run:CUSTOM COMPUTER, Core

Would a 1 gb video card such as the subject one be any better in FSX than a 512 mb card? I am a bit confused about the 4 Gb (3 gb actual) usage of memory in winxp 32 bit, and whether this also includes the video memory. I was wondering if a 1 Gb video card would aid in loading textures faster. Thanks,Bill

I currently run FS9 and don't plan on upgrading for quite a while - I've got too much time and money invested in my FS9 install.I am however getting a new vid card here in the next few weeks since I sold my old one to a buddy who's vid card fried.Through much research, I've decided upon the Nvidia 9800GT (same card as the 8800GT with a new name). I wasn't aware until tonight however that you can actually get this card in both 512mb version and 1gb version. The 512mb version can be had for about $110 and the 1GB version is $150-170.My install often has problems at the end of long flights with ground and building textures not loading and then the sim crashing (sometimes w…

Hey!I'm presently running Win XP Pro on my PC with a AOpen AX4SPE Max II motherboard with Intel P4 at 3200MHz, and with 2GB SDRAM DDR and a video system NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS with 256MB memory AGP bus, and I have plenty of space for my FS9 addons....However, I frequently meet with those "stutters", ie. even with acceptably high frame rate ( 20 and more ) my system stops for fractions of seconds all the time with intervals of seconds, even sometimes 10 or more seconds intervals, and this is very disturbing...I can't afford now to buy every now and then a new machine, so I wanted to install Win Vista which would allow me to install as well DirectX 10...However, a friend of…
