After moving to Vista64 from XP I'm getting shimmer in FSX that I didn't get before.I've tried all combinations and recommedations I can find but nothing makes any difference to the shimmer. I initally loaded 174.74 nvidia drivers that I was using with XP and also nhancer. I then loaded 175.19 nvidia drivers followed by two later beta versions, no difference. Some comments were made that nhancer is no longer required, so I did a full rebuild without nhancer and loaded 175.19, no difference.I'm now just using the nvidia control panel. Can someone copy their control panel settings that are working well for them. My card is an 8800GT.These are my current settings:Anisotropic…

There is still just a small amount of testimony I can find on this topic. How about a quick review of your recent results, and if you are happy with your purchase so far. I know it performs well in FS9, so that is not my question. A week ago I upgraded my computer. With the new multi-core coding in SP1 I thought I would give FSX another try. What a nightmare! First off, it runs very smoothly with frame rates locked at 30 fps. BUT, it won't stop crashing. First off, once I enabled AA it crashed EVERY TIME I switch to spot view then go back to cockpit. This is well documented in the CTD forum. I tried all fixes... nothing works. I turned AA off in the game and enabled it in nHancer... still crashed. Turned it down to 2x and YAY! It flies! Tried several planes and locations and it worked great. I love the water and terrain in FSX! Then, I get errors when trying to switch airports. Only about a dozen a…

Anybody using a KVM switch with a USB 2.0 mouse and keyboard? Can you share with me the brand and model you're using? Is the switching between boxes as fast as it was when I used an old PS2 mouse and keyboard, or is it as slow as this Belkin "Flip" KVM imposter I bought last year (fully 4 to 5 seconds!!).Thank you for any imput you can provide before I spend another 50 or 60 bucks.

  7. Hello to everyone!I've been a long time lurker, but since this question is quite important to me, I finally decided to register.Doing a forum search for "L2 cache" didn't turn up anything useful to me, so I'm asking this right here.Does the L2 cache of a CPU have any influence on FSX performance?I'm planning to upgrade my system (see signature) next week, but I can't decide whether to get an Intel Q9300 (good bang for the buck) or the more expensive Q9450 (more bang due to larger L2 cache?).As far as I've read, the Q9300 is a very good CPU already and fairly overclockable (3.2Ghz should be doable), but the Q9450 has 12Mbytes L2 cache - a whopping 100% more than the Q9300,…

I am becoming increasingly disillusioned with this machine. I bought it to provide me with the ultimate FSX experience. Today I purchased PMDG 747-400X and I dont have enough memory to run it even at the most basic of airports.I have been reading the posts about memory issues with 32bit vista but have not yet made any changes. What I would like to know is how Dell could willingly sell me a machine which is incapable of using the 4gb memory that I have paid for or am I completely missing something?Any help would be greatly appreciatedRgdsAdrian

Nick- re your older computer- I'm also using a GeForceFX5200 card- in fact 2 of them (AGP & PCI) to drive FS9 with triple monitors/triple views. They are totally reliable- never a crash. The drivers were installed by a housecall tech who also added RAM for me some two or three years ago. So I haven't a clue as to what version they were. I suppose these drivers are living proof that old is beautiful. (both the drivers and me!)Alex Reid

Hello,I just downloaded a program called Flusifix V6.5 for FS9. It comes with a benchmarking tool that tests your system, reports the result, and then gives you a list of comparable systems with the same results.I was not happy with the results(if the results are reliable). Currently I have an AMD Athlon X2 6000+ 3.0 GHZ, A-Data 2047MB Ram 800Mhz, Sapphire ATI Radeon 4850 512MB, Win XP Pro SP2. The system that it compared my results to was an AMD 2800+, 1024MB Ram, GForce 5900FX 256MB, Win XP. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please note that I consider myself technically challenged when it comes to stuff like this.:-rollThanks Scott

... is a GPU bottleneck.Obviously all your components need to be pretty good to run FSX well, but the received wisdom is that "FSX is basically CPU-bound". My recent experience suggests that the technology may be reaching a point where this is no longer true.I recently bought a E8500 PC which I've overclocked to about 4GHz. This is significantly faster than my 3GHz Xeon system. The GPU in both PCs is an EVGA 8800 Ultra "factory super-overclocked". I've noticed a couple of things:First, frame rates have increased roughly proportionately to CPU speed in "easy" areas: ie, high altitude or nearer the ground in areas of low scenery density and complexity. This is consistent wi…

The features added by SP2 (separate sound/voice channels etc) stopped working. Several tries - same result.I uninstalled SP1 and FSX, defragged the hard disk, ran a virus check and r…
