Hi guys,I'm a newbie on this forum.I have a question and I'm looking for some help please. I've recently had some FS9 problems and I think it may be the video card, but I'm not sure. I think there may be a built-in fan in my video card (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5950 Ultra) but I can't see it and it doesn't seem to be working at all. I cleaned out the dust from inside my PC last weekend. When cleaning around the video card, the cooling vent openings in the back of the card were filthy. Now that I've cleaned them out, I can't feel any air blowing from it! Does anybody know if it's supposed to blow air through these vents? Thanks for your helpBob.

A friend of mine has a system that is similar to mine. He is looking to purchase a new video card and asked me for a recommendation. This is a system that is primarily used for FSX. At first I was going to recommend the card that I have which is the 8800GTS but then after seeing the latest article on Tom's Hardware I was a little confused. I remember seeing the same article just a couple of months ago where it showed that the GTX 280 was far from the best performer in FSX however Tom's latest review point to the GTX 280 as being the best choice for FSX. Does this basically mean that the drivers were drastically improved over a couple of months and ultimately would you guy…

purchased the digital TH2GO last week, though right now i am using 3 15" LCD alalog monitors (got them for free so i could not pass it up ) and i thought i would give you my impresions so far. overall set up and the visuals are great, it took just a few minutes to set everything up and within a few minutes i was flying with a whole new perspective. the bezel manager is great and takes care of the offset horizon and other problems where things dont line up nicely. the black verticle bars on the left and right side of the screen are not even noticeable after a few minutes.now i may have some teaking to do because i notice that the right and left monitor show terrain slig…

According to the following article on Anandtech, the new Nehalem architecture will not necessarily provide a huge boost to games. In your opinion, does this mean that FSX will not see any significant advantages from Nehalem? Thank you.http://anandtech.com/weblog/showpost.aspx?i=480

Hi All,I'm getting out of memory errors with my Digital Aviation Cheyenne, usually after flying over 1 hour. At the DA forum, it has been suggested to use a /3GB switch and a userva of from 2080 to 3048.I currently only have 2 GB - can FSX use more with a winXP (Home) OS? Im willing to spend the money to get another 2 gb, but I'm wondering if it will help at all.I'm flying with UTx, GEX, default scenery, and RC4. I'm using Alacrity for startup and I'm getting 22-26 fps (locked at 26). I'm not running out of memory with any other aircraft.Dale

With 8GB DDR II RAM and Vista 64 bit OS what would be the best way to manage the memory.... I know that FS9 /FSX will not use most of the RAM but any suggestions as to how to manage the memory for best overall performance would be appreciated....Thanks,JayDub

Hey guys i'm new, I tried searching so I'm sorry if this has been covered before. I have a gigabyte ds3l mobo with a realtek onboard sound card. I typically fly the pmdg 747, would i see a substantial frame rate increase if i used a dedicated sound card as opposed to the onboard one? (i saw someone bring this up in another thread and didn't want to ask about it in there and take it off track)... my computer specs are in my sig for reference

I have just had a new motherboard installed as my MSI P-35 died. I have a E6850 chip. Now I have having problems of flightsim crashing after about 15 minutes (general freezing). Also had this problem when installing a program. If I run CoreTemp, I am getting really strange temps that start at 50C and climb to 100C just prior to the crash. My computer guy tells me it is impossible as the fan is a good one (much better than standard fan). I have not overclocked the chip, although it was overclocked on the old board.Any ideas ?Mark.

Hello People.I am new to Flight Simulator and have got MS FSX and some VFR scenery for where I live and fly from.I have the following in my computer and would like some advice.Intel Pentium®D CPU 2.80 GHz1.0 GB RamOn board Graphics CardOn board Sound CardSpare AGP graphics card slot. Now the reason for buying the software in the first place was to help me with my navigation when flying a microlight (ultralight) for real.So although I want to be able to see the best possible detail on the ground with my VFR scenery pack, I do not necessarily need to render a 747 at 25 FPM.Can you recommend a decent graphics card to add to my system to be able to do what I want which is see …

Is it "safe" to use the onboard sound of modern mainboards? I remember older boards let the CPU do sound processing to a part and for FS, it was recommended to use a separate sound adapter...Andreas

All, I recently moved to Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I know 64 bit would have been better but I was able to get the 32 bit version for a very low price through my employer. At any rate I have 2G of ram on the way and my question is how to best utilize it. Should I just add 1 stick or add both. I do understand that because it's a 32 bit OS it will only utilize a bit beyond 3G.CraigLian Li PC 65B CaseCorsair HX Series CMPSU-620HX 620W Power SupplyPlextor PX-810SA/SW-BL DVD/CDGiagabyte GA-P35-DS3RCrucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)Arctic Freezer 7 ProIntel E6850 Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz 4M shared L2 Cache @ 3.6 GHzEVGA 7950GT KO 512mb 169.21_fo…

To have a decent FSX experience, I guess today one would recommend hardware like a Core2 Duo 8600 processor or an AMD 4870 graphics adapter because they've shown they're pretty fast in many benchmarks. The downside is that modern and fast hardware is very expensive.Theory and reality often are two pairs of shoes: hardware classified as being "fast" by somebody or some benchmark or so doesn't necessarily mean that "slower" or better "older" hardware wouldn't perform fast enough to drive one specific piece of software, namely FSX.When I look at the various hardware price comparison sites, I still see many older processors or graphics adapters in there at prices which are on…

Dear all, first, this is my first post. Hello to all. Have been gleaning useful advice for some time now - thanks to all! Hope you don't mind I start with a problem.I have a very strange problem with 3 (!) Saitek joysticks in a row (2x Avaitor and 1x X52).Problem:- Signal from axes, throttles and sliders is not stable. There is jiggling on the signal, exactly the same as visible on following youtube video by another X52 user.http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=5dlEemIPlfE(I have similar videos for all 3 controllers). - In FS2004 the controls mapped to these axes (e.g. throttle, prop, mixture, ect

Hey All.I've been a lurker more than a poster here, but had some questions about O/C'ing my new system. Hi,Just wondering if anybody had views/reviews on Flight Link hardware, notably for helicopters?I'm thinking of getting their full setup:http://www.flightlink.com/hardware/rotorwing/gs3plus.htmlhttp://www.flightlink.com/hardware/rotorwing/collective.htmlhttp://www.flightlink.com/hardware/rotorwing/atp.htmlI'm upgrading from a set of SimControl MRVC controls which we've managed to wear out (http://www.simcontrol.co.uk/newheli.htm).Thanks, Kenjiwww.ktakeda.net

I've added the free UK2000 Gatwick to my FS9 & got smooth viewing at 24 FPS but I've added a lot more WoAI airlines & get 60 aircraft on the ground with sometimes 10 queuing to take off & 5 or so landing. It's great & a huge improvement on what I had! BUT with the added traffic my frame rates have dropped to around 10.I was wondering if this card would be a better one to get in this machine (a Dell Dimension 9150, P4 3.4GHz, 2GB Ram, Gforce 7900 GS. 20" Dell widescreen) : XFX Nvidia 9600GT 680M 512MB DDR3 Dual Dvi, PCI Express graphics Card XXX edition - PV-T94P-YDD4 - I don't want to reduce traffic density !Thank you.

When running FSX with moderate settings, my computer will unexpectingly shutdown. It does not do it with FS9. I was wandering if there is a way to tell if it is the computer chip overheating or the video card overheating that is causing this!!My system is: E6600 overclocked to 3.16ghz, 4gig of PC2-6400 ram, ATI 1650 Radeon 512meg, a fan-driven copper/aluminum fin chip cooler. If I turn the settings down in FSX, it will not do it, however, I still would like to know which one is causing it to happen. The ATI Radeon does not have a fan driven cooler attached to it,... just a series of tubes that do the cooling. Is there a way to determine if it is the chip or the video card …

Has anybody got experience in adding a profile for FS 2004 within the driver's control panel (not using Nhancer)? I was successful in creating a profile that worked when launching FS, but mysteriously after last weeks Microsoft Update, it quit working for FS and I can no longer create ANY profile for ANY game from within Nvidia's control panel. It refuses to add it to the 'active profiles' list and instead reverses the syntax of the entry in the 'Applications' list. For example, this: FS 2004 (FS9.EXE) instead of how it should show: FS9.EXE 9 (FS 2004) AND no entry at all in the 'active profiles' list.I've delved into the file nvapp.xml to check what's in the profile list…
