Is it necessary to do any editing or to delete the fsx.cfg prior to un-installing an existing video card and installing a new one? I see a reference to the video card installed in the .cfg file.I'm also wondering what difference a 2X PCI-e card might make for FSX (@ 512MB), compared to increasing video card memory (in my case to 768MB)at 1X PCI-e? I have a motherboard that has a 2X PCI-e bus (GA-X38T-DQ6).Thanks, Bruce.

Hi all, I am running 4850CF here and have noticed that I get pretty bad shimmering in fs9 and fsx with these cards. AF settings in the CCC don't really seem to make much of a difference. Fs9 is much worse than fsx though but both are not nearly as good in IQ as my old 8800 was. There seems to be some issues with AF in the 4850, is anyone else getting that shimmer? Any way to fix it? I've tried lowering mipmap in the CCC and adjusting every setting in there to no avail.

Hi allI have completed rebuilding and testing my machine (original specs in my sig - will change later). I went from a Q6600 B3 (2.4ghz stock) which would not overclock beyond 2.7ghz with good air cooling to a Q9550 (2.83ghz stock) (note to Sam - reseller I have been using for 10 years was v kind and sold me the Q9550 at a highly discounted price so chose that over a Q6600 C0).I also installed an MSI Platinum X48C mainboard - do not go there unless you have alot of patience and at least enough knowledge to get down and dirty with your BIOS. The X48C was barely operable at the start and a flash to the latest official BIOS did nothing - rarely booted past POST, ran the FS…

Not sure I'd believe the release date, but who knows, it could be accurate. But for FSX, this IS the card you want.http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=299884Why you want it:1. 100% scalable, this is NOT a Crossfire config so you'll benefit from the two GPUs in any game including FSX2. Power efficient dual GPU setup (650 Watt PSU)If you can wait a month or less for a GPU, I would. This 4870X2 will provide some real benefits to FSX.Rob.

Sorry for the double post: I screwed up with the attachments in the earlier one.For insomniacs:The attached JPEGS show the results of four benchmarks with an E8500 at stock speed and overclocked to 4GHz. My GPU is an 8800 Ultra superclocked by EVGA. The benchmark is the FSXMark07 download from AVSIM's file library. What (I think) they show is this:1. At the benchmark's standard "Global high" settings:(a) the average framerate increases almost linearly - or better than linearly - with the extra speed of the CPU; and(:( the % of time with at least 25fps and 30fps also goes up significantly: ie, smoothness is much better.2. However, if I use my own more onerous settings (show…

I have upgraded my hardware from an old 8800 GTS 640MB to the Radeon and have been running into these problems.I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same? It happens exclusively in FSX and on multiple instances.-when using switches in 2d Panels-after tinkering with settings during flight (graphics or other - does not matter). From the looks of it I would see the problem during som kind of "initialisation" process of the GFX card.I think I remember this behaviour from an old x1950 pro, but I am not sure.Yes, I did get rid of the old drivers, and I started with a fresh fsx.cfg.System Specs:-Intel e6600@stock (2,4GHz), -Asus P5B, latest BIOS Rev.-2GB RAM (2x 1GB Geil …

I have a relatively new dual core AMD 64 6400+. My goal is to have FS9 use a core all by itself and then have all of the other programs run on the second core. I am hoping, for example, to get rid of the pauses that programs like Active Sky cause when using FS9 on a single core. How do I make it utilize both cores in this way? Someone mentioned CoPilot 6.1, but I don't see in the manual where it says that the workload can be spread in this manner. Can anyone make any suggestions or tell me how to manually do what I want to accomplish. Thanks in Advance,RH

This is for anyone sitting on the fence thinking about upgrading their video card. I, after much debate, finally upgraded my video card from an ATI 1950XTX to a ATI 4870. Hi guys, I've just begun a clean install of FS2004. As you'll know after a few years you have scenery files & aircraft files etc all over the place! As I live in the UK (EGBE) and starting all over again my first job is to establish which is the best overall UK photoreal scenery to use as I don't currently use one, payware or otherwise! The best one I would think is the one that not only looks goods but works seamlessly with other various add-ons found within Avsim! I'm not worried about Frame rate as my PC works very well with all sliders up.Can anyone please advise???Many Thanks :)

  24. I'm looking for the least-rated UPS that will protect against brief brown outs. I turn my machine off when not in use (have for 15y now and am not interested in the discussion of turn off versus no turn off), so don't need (I think) a UPS that can keep the machine running off AC power for more that super brief periods. I have a 750W PS but max rated use for my components probably comes in in the high 500's to mid 600's tops. Again, don't need anything that can keep the beast running for several minutes, just want something that can buffer brief brownouts when I am using the computer. What do you know?Noel
