HiI decided to buy a new PC, so if you guys here that know a lot about hardware would suggest something else, or just confirm me that I'll probably have good performance in FS9 with PMDG and a lot of payware scenery...CPU: Intel Pentium D 915 (this one I have in my current PC, and I can't buy the CPU currently (actually, I can't ask my mum the buy everything at the same time))GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 UltimateI know there are slightly better performance cards with more-less the same price, but this one is silent - no vent, just massive heatsinkRAM: DDR2 4GB (2x2GB kit) PC8000 (1000MHz) OCZ, Platinum XTC, DC kitPS: OCZ power supply GameXStream 600W, SLI-readyWould this …

Hello,I will be getting a new PC in the next 2-4 wks and would advice from FSX users on what they thinks of my suggested specs. The main use for the PC will be for FSX and online flying. CPU.From my research, FSX is mainly CPU (Speed)driven. There appears to be no clear winner on the dual core/quad core arguement although I think a quad core overclocked seems to be the way forward. I am also concious that Intel will be launching Nethalam late this year which will require anew motherboard.Option: E8400 or E8500 @3GH and overclock it.MotherboardFSX does not appear to get any huge gain with SLI or Crossfire, so a P35 motherboard that supports overclocking is my suggestion he…

I am running a Q9300 cpu on a EVGA 780i board with 8mb of ram. 800 watt power supply. two 512mb 9800GTX in SLI mode cards. How much more could I gain by overclocking the cpu? Hi, a long time ago I was told how to make it possible to programme buttons 31 and 32 on the throttle. After just having re-installed windows, I've now forgotten which file to remove from the saitek folder. I faintly recall it's either saic0255.pr0..said0255.pr0...saic075C.pr0...or said075C.pr0. I've tried removing each one in turn, but to no avail. I'm obviously missing a step. If anyone knows how to do this, I would be very grateful.Russell.

Hello,The message says "a network cable is unplugged" and it shows every second or two.A couple of days ago I started getting this annoying pop up message and I don't know what to do to get rid of it.I have two computers connected to the Internet by a router. The second computer doesn't have this problem (both running XP SP2).I noticed that if I disconnect the router and connect the cable modem directly to my PC the problem goes away.First thing I did was check the connectors and both look fine.Another thing I did was try every port in the router wihtout result. I also replaced the cable that goes from the router to my PC but that didn't work either. Can it be some problem…

I'm no graphics expert so would appreciate some plain advice about what driver I should be using please. The NVIDIA driver installed on my new PC a few months ago was 169.2. I upgraded it to 175.19 a few weeks ago, basically just following the advice to "always use the latest driver".. All seems generally OK, apart from a few quirks which I can't be sure are NVIDIA related. But this morning I had a spectacular crash while attempting to play a large AVI video clip. Extensive graphics corruption and total freeze, so had to reset PC. So I'm keen to know:1) Is the consensus amongst others with more experience that 175.19 is reliable and generally OK on XP Pro please?2) On my …

I have two IDE drives on a Asus A8V Deluxe mb. One 60 Gb Maxtor bought in 2002. On this drive I have Win XP installed. Then I got one 250 Gb seagate baracuda 7200.10 bought previous year. Here I have FS2004 and games and some other stuff. My motherboars has two IDE controllers one VIA and one promise. I have the maxtor on the VIA and the seagate on the promise controller (i.e not on the same cable). My question could there be any benefit in changing this setup? For example I have learnt that it would be an advantage to have FS and OS on the same drive. Also that the OS should be on the fastest drive. I wonder is there reason to think that my latest seagate is faster than t…

Hello,First time posting here. I am constantly trying to speed up FS9 and was thinking about adding an external hard drive for my computer, exclusivley for FS9, nothing else. Do you think a new HD dedicated to one program really would speed things up and would it be worth the investment? I have a Gateway, P4 3ghz processor, 800FSB with 512mb of RAM and a radeon 9600 graphics card. I get 20+ frames in flight but only about 6-10 FPS at busy airports like Chicago, LAX, etc. Thanks!

My CPU has been happily overclocked to 3.6GHz (1.45V) for the last six months or so. Lately, my system has not been always booting at 3.6GHz, rather sometimes it has started at default speed (oh, the TRAGEDY of it all :-lol).Here's what it does. If I cold boot for the first time that day and subsequently warm boot thereafter, it's a continual 3.6GHz of bliss for me. But if I power down and boot up a few minutes later, I get the ole "you've overclocked too far" BIOS reboot behaviour and she boots up at stock 2.4GHz, no matter how many times I reset to 3.6GHz in the BIOS. Interestingly, I can trick my system into booting at 3.6GHz when in this stubborn state, namely by …

Hi dear guru's..I have a simple question.Already I can put the whole system load on one core, and FS9 on the other core.So all fine, it runs good, but something bothering me.There are a lot of system things running in the back, and is there a way of really putting everything, except FS9 on one core/cpu ?I mean, I can things like services.exe drop to one core (can I?) with a little tool. (there are a lot on the net), but the hidden background processes, not showed up in the task list. Can someone shine a light on how do this properly ?JohanA LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION, AND A LITTLE MORE ACTION PLEASE..http://www.jdserver.mine.nu/johanGlobal Logistics VAhttp://www.jdserver.m…

I currently have a 19inch 4:3 LCD, I've been thinking about upgrading to TH2GO for a while but it's costly. Some questions I have: - If I just upgrade to a 24inch widescreen will it give me more field of vision over a standard 19inch LCD, or will it just strech the view? - Does TH2GO work with 3 widescreens? I was thinking of buying 3 small widescreens. Is there any reason not to use widescreens in this setup?I have a 8800GT vid card.ThanksMark

hey i am going to order a card for my new computer this weekend.. I just don't know what to go with. Do i stick with the cheaper ati 4870 or go for the Geforce 280. There is an overclocked version by ledtek that has pretty amazing ratings.http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....s)%20-%20RetailI have a p45 board, so crossfire in the future and now isn't an option. Neither is cost if i am going to have the card for more than a year. I would love to wait until the real nvida ati battle starts when the ati*2 card is realised but i can't..Also i went a bit crazy and bought a 26" hd monitor.. so i would like it to run well..Regards. ps this my first post, and a welco…

Folks,I currently use a Samsung 19" SyncMaster LCD which is actually pretty good with FSX, although not Widescreen. What is the general opinion about the ideal size for an LCD Widescreen Monitor, particularly with respect to FSX?I am looking at 24" and 26" at the moment as there always seems to be a 'catch up process' with PCs. I recall using 14", then 15" then 17" then 19" and so on. Eventually there has to be a limit otherwise will we all be sitting in front of 108" Wallscreens....:)I certainly would appreciate opinions from users with large screens 24" and over. Thank you all.Paul

I am setting up a new mainboard and memory. There are lots of BIOS o'clocking settings on this X48 board that I am not familiar enough with to use both effectively and safely. Can anyone recommend a comprehensive guide on using some of the various controls? For example, it appears "Common Performance" (shows up when you enable Transaction Booster) must be MCH Read Delay or tRD, but nowhere can I find out what these esoteric control truly mean. Thank you kindly in advance,Noel

Hi there!I'm replacing my Intel Core 2 Duo (E4500) with Intel Core 2 Quad (Q6600), Intel MoBo DP35DP. My OS is Windows XP Home SP2. The system sees only 1 core (Core0). I'm not an expert in hardware, so once I did a research on the topic, I got quite confused. Some people say I need Windows XP Pro to enable 3 other cores, while others say quad cores should work just fine with Home Edition. My understanding now is that I can't use multiple *processors* with Home Ed and I need to go with Pro. But Core 2 is a *single* processor with 4 cores! Am I missing something?I upgraded BIOS, got every OS update but SP3, ... still, only 1 CPU is seen in Task Manager, SpeedFan, and CPU-Z…
