Flight Simmers who are wrestling with Display/View decisions such as Wide Format Monitors, 2D vs Virtual, very large HD TV-Monitors or Multi Monitors, may be interested in this composite Screenshot of the PMDG 747 and the real Boeing 747.Of special note is the very wide ratio of the real flightdeck view- surprisingly narrow vertically vs the lateral width.Perhaps lending support to the merits of triple views/triple monitors.Alex ReidPMDG 747 CYVR R26L. After about 30 minutes of trying, I have only been able to get my computer working again and get online. Basically, it would seem to boot normally, even to the desktop screen. But, any attempt to get any app to work met with a lockup. I was not even able to shut down normally. I began thinking about overheating...at the moment, according to my core temperature monitor...my four cores are at 56 56 63 and 67 Celsius. But, before I was able to get on, I could not even get into safe mode. The boot screen would come up OK, and I could scroll to select SafeMode...but, in the course of booting into SM, the system reverted bck to the start of the bootup sequence. Finally, I took a…

I think I have finally nailed down my new computer specs:Mobo: Asus P5Q3 Deluxe WifiCPU: E8600VC: Asus EN9800GTXHD: Western Digital 750Gb SATA2 32mb x2The choice of RAM seems to be a nightmare. I'm looking at 4GB. Any recommendations?Any constructive comments on the specs appreciated too.At the moment I'm just running FS9 but might shift to FSX so I'd like a system that will enhance that experience! My god the thought of losing all that scenery and aircraft. Thanks

I just ordered a Q6600 from Fry's, and have been reviewing the last two years' worth of threads on core usage. Q2: Is there a consensus on how best to assign cores for FSX? In addition to FSX, the same machine is also running ActiveSky X and FS Map. Q1: Is it better to assign cores for these manually, or let WinXP manage them?I have seen three or four users report good results limiting FSX to cores 1, 2, and 3, reserving 0 for...I'm a little fuzzy on that (see Q2).In December 2007, Phil Taylor posted this in the hardware forum: "[There] is a common misconception of the AffinityMask tweak, that it will completely lock FSX out of core-0. The AffinityMask tweak affects the e…

  10. Good Day,Working on a new build from the ground up and could use some advice from the experts.... 1 ....... With a good CPU and video card..... Overclocked Intel Duo E8500 and a ATI 4870 is there much advantage to going with a Raptor 10,000 RPM drive over a standard 7200 RPM drive...... Or how about a large 7200 RPM drive for the OS and normal use with a Raptor 10,000 as a second dedicated drive for Flight Simulator 9 and all the Addons........ Will go with two drives in any case but much cheaper to stay with 7200s unless a big performance gain is possible.......2 ....... Still can

Not sure why Tom's Hardwared tested the ATI 4870 with Cat 8.22 Beta drivers?? Maybe the WHQL Cat 8.6's didn't work with all the games they were testing (including FSX)?Regardless, I'll post my testing results of two 4870's in Crossfire compared to my 8800GTX OC. So far, the results have been IMPRESSIVE. No texture flashing with shadows (and all along I thought this was just a problem with FSX code), image quality really does appear to look better than my 8800GTX. Frame rate is smooth and doesn't suffer any fluctuations regardless of the scene. Even have ActiveSky/Graphics X and clouds (even when set to 100 mi) don't seem to impact frame rates.I've only done testing o…

  16. I was reminded of a process to defragment the Pagefile by setting it to none and rebooting setting it to system allocate and reboot. A Microsoft recommended process.Anyhow, when I set it to no page file on any of the three disks, and rebooted I continue to see the Task Manager showing PageFile allocation?? Looking at the disks via "explorer" there is no PageFile on any of the three. Memory use is normal for FSX and would be very noticeable if memory was actually used as a pagefile. FSX will take PageFile (PF) up to over 900mb at times when none is allocated???Windows XP/SP3 2gb memory 2.5ghz DualCorePictures - Task Manager and PageFile manager. Regards,Dick BoleyA PC, a…

Since the AMD takeover they are only giving out 1 year warranties now?And then I did a quick look at Nvidia - they are 3 years!? First off, thanks much to Nick and the other experts who help us all tune our PCs for FSX! I used this help a lot in putting together a G0 q6600/8800GT PC recently. My problem is that CoreTemp is reporting >60 deg temps on my Q6600 even without overclocking. I have a NZXT Hush Mid-Tower with two 120mm fans (set at max speed from BIOS), a XFX 680i LT mobo, and a 8800GT along with, at first, a Thermaltake 775D CPU fan which I just upgraded to an ASUS Lion Square which was reviewed (http://legitreviews.com/article/728/1/) as being quite good. I just don't get anywhere close to their results (before or after the CPU cooler upgrade) in that I get over 60 deg with no overc…

Just a heads-up NVIDIA just released the 175.19 WHQL display drivers (http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us). Suppose to improve a lot of things. I didn't see any fixes for the DX10 Preview setting but I did see improved performance. I ran a 3DMark Vantage benchmark and these drivers performed much better. Previous driver benchmark was 8543 and this driver's benchmark was 9546, a little over 100 points higher. Best regards,Jim
