  1. Hi:I'm in the market for a new LCD flat panel TV for the bedroom, and was thinking about the 42"-46" size. How many of us have made the transition? I will have my 28" LCD for the FMC, overhead etc (2nd. display). Obviously, I will be running at a lower resolution.....I only fly VC. Will this be ok? What is the closest you can sit without pixelating image degredation? Is the 120Hz absolutely necessary for FS/gaming- (no I do not play 1st. person shooters but my son does so smoothness is important too). What MAKE AND MODEL displays are you all running, and how happy are you with them? Would you pick the same model again, or would you change.........if so, why? Any sc…

  2. My system is about 3 or 4 years old. It has a single core, 3.4GHZ CPU with 2GB main memory. It has an early version PCI Express card, the ATI X600 card, with 256MB memory. I am considering upgrading to a newer ATI Radeon 3870 card, with 512MB memory. My main interest is in improving my FSX experience. Can I expect to see any improvements with regard to FPS, and with possible reduction in "blurry" scenery ( a know FSX problem). What type of "improvements" might I expect? Thanks for your input..Jim

Yes, its true, 9800GX2 video cards haven't been put on store shelves yet....until tomorrow !! The one I got is the overclocked edition with a memory clock speed of a whopping 2gb/s !!!!I got mine today, paid $750 Cnd. (Price of card plus bribing store manager)I finished installing it 4 hours ago, then flew FSX with Tileproxy for that 3 hours. Yesterday, I also purchased a Core2 Extreme QX9650 Quad Core 3.0GHz 12MB/1333FSB, but couldn't install the video card untl BFG gave the go ahead for me to purchase it as they don't like sales prior to release date. If I didn't bribe the manager, I would of had to wait till tomorrow.Anyways, my point is, with this hardware, I have…

I have an HD that supports NCQ and my mobo supports AHCI. Currently my drive is setup as native IDE. Is it worth switching over to AHCI? Will there be a significant performance increase? I know this usually involves a complete reinstallation but if it's worth it then I would do it. Thank you.

Hi,I've just got back into the FS scene and was wondering what is the best way to configure my CH yoke and pedals. I use Vista, FSX and have the full version of Pete Dowson's FSUIPC installed.I have found that the yoke has a very big null zone which involves me having to turn the yoke a good 1/4 of the way before FS starts to respond.Does anyone have any instructions on how to sort this? Thanks,

Hi All,I recently built a newer PC mainly for FSX and video editing with Premiere Pro 2.0. I am happy with the performance in Premiere but I am not convinced I am getting the best performance I can from FSX, mainly due to confusion over BIOS and memory settings.I think the Corsair XMS2 PC6400 memory should be able to run at 4-4-4-12 (whatever these numbers are) but I am uncertain whether the BIOS picks up on this automatically. Can anyone offer advice?Kind regards,Andrew.www.carillonvideo.co.uk

Ok, so my economic stimulus package went to "good" use; a new rig for my FSX :) So I am thinking of taking another step, and that is a matched-card to provide SLI.Now, I've been to AVSIM fancon's 3-years straight now, I'm on the staff, I've been around for a bit. I've seen the hardware run, but I have to ask, given my current system specs below, will bringing an SLI into play REALLY give me more performance? And the bigger question, is it enough of a boost to warrant spending another $199 on a second GPU? My system specs are below, and thanks in advance for the help! :) (specs are below)

Anyone looking for a new system or thinking about upgrading some components might be interested in this excellent article at TechSpot -- the June 2008 PC Buying Guide (http://www.techspot.com/news/30644-techspot-pc-buying-guide--june-2008.html). I bought a "luxury, high-end" system last year so not in the market but was shocked to see a high-end system much, much better than mine now costs around $4000 compared to the over $7000 I paid just last year. I will definitely be looking at one of their future guides whenever I decide to upgrade again!Best regards,JimMy System:Dell XPS720H2C w/Dell 3007WFP LCD Monitor.

Just got the big expensive brick...and holding it for a future Quad Core/64-bit system build (not solely for my dreams of crushing FS9/FSX some day though). Sort of the reverse engineering approach to building a new platform around the card - which by the sheer size of it seems pretty wise... Didn't install the 280 into my current rig yet because 1.) Capt. Kirk needs more POWER... and 2.) Don't really see the hardcore benefit of using the new slay card yet due to FS being so CPU dependent anyway (my current X850 is battling AI & scenery pretty well at least until I build).Curious to hear any realtime trench stories from those with either the 260/280 installed already …

  19. Hello,When I bought a new computer a few months ago I also bought a new vid card and had BestBuy install it while I was there. The card is a PCI-E card and I thought it would run great.. Well it did, but it wasn't as great as I thought. Come to find out that the video setting in the BIOS was still PCI instead of PCI-E. I think I have seen a noticable improvement... Does this actually effect anything or am I merely suffering from wishfull thinking and blurry eyes. I think I have seen a modest improvement in frames as well as the ability to run higher AA settings. Just thought I would trow this out there for any of you computer guru types.Respecfully,Scott

I have the main window on the external monitor and drag some my FMC/other bits of panel to the laptop screen. I use full-screen mode. Does anyone know how I go about choosing which screen is picked when I wish to take a screenshot? At the moment I seem to get both windows joined together side by side when I paste the screenshot in.Any help would be appreciated!RegardsRudy

Folks, I have had both FS9 and FSX running fine on my rig. Smooth running and acceptable frame rates.OK the problem now:- On booting into FSX at the splash screen when 'THE' music starts, the sound is distorted. Some 'crackling' and hesitation in the music sounds. When the defaults come up and you begin to select an aicraft the distortion continues. With the aircraft selected and engine running (music has stopped)the distortion continues sparodically. On applying throttle distortion increases with stutters occuring in sync with the sound issues.I have similar issues in FS9 but not to the same extent. What I have done:-1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest dr…
