Thanks for any help with this. I just started reading up on the new chips and video cards and it is making my head spin!Greg

Hello! I've been into flightsimulation since the Jumbo program was developed by Molimerx for the BBC Microcomputer in the early 1980s. (Amazingly, I've just discovered it is still available - if you want it PM me for a link). So, I'm getting on a bit! I've a chance now to do a serious upgrade. I currently fly FS2004 and FS2002 (very stable in my system). My existing kit consists of:ASUS A8N32-SLI-Deluxe mobo AMD Athlon 64 San Diego 4000+2GB Corsair RAM (very fast pair matched)Western Digital Raptor HDDs 70GB and 40GB (so not in RAID config)NVidia 7800 GTX 256MB Viewsonic 19in CRT monitorSony 17in CRT monitor interlaced (excellent display)I wish to do the following: 1. I'm looking at two different Dell XPS systems, trying to decide between them. I've decided to go with Dell, I'm not going to build my own, NewEgg doesn't ship to Canada and the prices on both are comparable to NCIX so please no comments on "don't go dell do this instead" unless you have personal experience with Dell, in that case I'd greatly appreciate comments on their service. Thanks.XPS 630=====PROCESSOR Intel

When trying to setup a new system the reseller advice me to use a case with at least two fans.My current case is nine years old and has no fans att all. My AMD 64 3200+ gets up to 57 deg celsius during heavy gaming.First should a modern CPU like E8400 be expected to be hotter or colder assuming I use my current fan less case? Would the situation change if I used a E7200 CPU instead? What experience do you have for CPU temperature and in what case (how many case fans)? Does anyone tried running a new modern system in case without fans?

  13. I have recently bought a hi-end gaming system with quad processor and triple 9800 video cards, but still get bad stepping and low frame rates with the performance settings at max!I assumed that this system would be enough to run FSX Accel' with 'all the stops out' but it seems not. I get stepping and various video delays and unwanted effects when flying and looking around. Landing at a major airport gets only frame rates around 6-7!Surely it should be better than this?Any suggestions as to what I might do would be gratefully received.Nigel

Hi! I am about to buy a laptop to replace my stationary computer. But it will be in the lower region of laptops. So what is your recommendations for a laptop that is able to run FSX? I am want to have dynamic scenery, AI and perhaps a few addons. What about graphics? Is the nvidia 8-series good? Is a 8400 och 8600 GS good enough? What about CPU? A dual-core is mandatory, but as an Intel on 1.8 Ghz or an Amd turion 1.8 Ghz good enough? And finally, XP or Vista?? What is recommended? Please tell me what you have and what kindo of performance do get? Thanks

I am seeking advice on selecting the appropriate ASUS mobo for a new build. The OS will be XP Pro and I will run FS9 primarily but wish to have FSX run smoothly also. This mobo should be backward compatible with for my IDE drives, at least for the immediate present. It should have SLI capability, able to support a future quad core processor, 1066/1333 FSB.I have decided on E8400 or E8500 processor. Can you suggest an adequate cooling device that will fit the board's size and layout. The video card is expected to be an 8800GTX minimum 512mb capable of overclocking. Is there one brand preferred, for example BFG, EVGA.Memory will be DDR-2 800. Again, vendor preference?Thank…

Hi,I've read a lot of posts about graphic card drivers, where your'e recommended to first uninstall the old drivers. After that you should use some driver clean utility to remove any left over old driver files and data in the Registry. Why is that? I've never used a driver clean utility over the years.I usually uninstall the previous driver before installing a new version. But for many years I didn't even do that. I had no problems with this either. Why should I uninstall the old drivers before installing?I would appreciate your help on this.Ulf BCore2Duo X6800 3.3GHz4GB RAM Corsair XMS2-8500C5BFG 8800GTX, Creative SB X-FiFSX Acc/SP2, Vista 32

Hi guys, like many others on this forum I need some help with specs for a new PC. I was hoping to wait for new Nelahem chips but my current rig is starting to display some bizarre hardware related behavior something to do with dodgy capacitors, so it is upgrade time. I have most specs sorted (E8500 chip, 8800GTX card, Antec P182 case, drives, monitors from my current rig etc.) out but I am stumped when it comes to ram. I have read the debate over DDR2 vs DDR3 and understood little. So in simple terms what ram (and MB to suit) should I get? OS will be winxp pro and extreme overclocking is not a priority but I may dabble a little in that area and will be running FS9 an…
