Help Using the AVSIM Forums

I don't know a great deal about this stuff, but it says here that it costs $36,000 to maintain avsim. 30 - 6 - Thousand - dollars....!! and yet... can't upload at small .JPG file.... um, Really? that's hard to comprehend.

Hi Jim, Following this thread (I'm linking to avoid necroposting 😉 ) I want to say thank you again for setting the number of threads per forum page to 25. And it's cool that the server could absorb the load. It makes my user experience better since most of the time I don't have to scroll to the 2nd page of the P3D forum to see new threads/posts.

Hi AVSIM Team, First I want to say a kind work to all of you for your fine work, making this place open but civilized and enjoyable. I understand that here and on other forums, necroposting is prohibited or at least not recommended. I've never quite understood why. In my view, it is 'good' to concentrate on a 'unique' thread so that folks who come later have the complete and historical view of the discussions. So what is the rationale leading to NOT necroposting on AVSIM? Not debating the rule, just eager to understand. Thanks.

During the past month or so there have been some people here at AVSIM who are overly eager to take or make things personal, or are always waiting in the wings to tell someone / anyone else that they're wrong and then belittle them, and still others who have made it clear that they simply hate developers and will go so far as to make misleading and even blatantly false statements about a product (I'm not talking about my products), and even some who will bash a product even though they've clearly stated they don't own it! Off the rails and out of control. All of this is creating a very toxic environment in too many different threads on AVSIM, and I shouldn't have to …

Trying to change my image above my username and to be honest it has been so long I cannot remember how to do this? I click on my name, account settings but see no way to change or I have clicked on edit profile, same thing. Could someone lead me in the right direction? Thx.

While it can be said that many signatures are a form of advertisement... since a great deal of them tend to mention a company and/or product in one form or another... is it within the ToS to have a signature that blatantly advertises something? To be clear, I don't care... I just wanna know. If I had a signature that showed as an advert for the Mindstar Aviation G1000 (as example), does that violate the ToS? If I were a freeware developer and had a signature that did so, does that violate the ToS? Just askin... cuz I won't be adding any such stuff to MY signature... but was curious. :)

When I open a new post I see two tabs: content and poll, side by side (using Chrome and W7). To set up a poll : - Does one write a content in the first tab then move to the poll tab, write the question and submit, both content and poll being published a the same time in the same thread ? - Or does one have to set up a poll, submit/publish it and then write an explanatory content in a first answer ? Sorry for my dumb question but in the forums I've known opening a poll was someting you did within the topic content window as an option to add. Thanks

I used a URL to link a banner to my signature. You can see it below if you have signatures "on". But after several attempts I cannot delete or update that banner with a new one? I go to top-right of the AVSIM, click on my username, Account Settings, Signature, press CTRL + right-click to open an edit window. Ive tried Edit Image, Edit Link and Remove Link. I have even deleted the image from my website and it is still here?!?! Where am I going wrong? Clutch

In an earlier version of the forum it was possible to tag a post as "best answer" and then automatically getting it displayed as first post of the thread. Is that still possible and if yes, how is it done now? With a terrible long thread it is difficult for readers to find specific post e.g. containing the latest download links. Henrik Nielsen

Hello Jim, Over the past weeks the Recent topics Right side menu in the Forum Main Page has disappeared, I read a post where the issue was discussed, and that the team were working to resolve the issue. Is there any progress, I really miss this feature, I hate opening each Subforum to search for new content. Cheers Jeff

Well that's not a great idea. I remember when the new website was launched. If I recall correctly that was the main complaint!

Is there a way to attach zip files to a private message..?? If there is I can't seem to figure out how to do it... The file is pretty small, 1.69 mb. Any help is appreciated..🙂

Yesterday,I added to a topic on someone who had been involved in motor vehicle accident, which wasn't his fault. One of the words I used was "stupid", and in case this word gets replaced again,it was Sierra Tango Uniform PaPa India Delta. Could you please tell me why this word is not allowed. It is not offensive, inflammatory or obscene, and is in any dictionary you can find. If it is not allowed, I would suggest that this is over the top as far as censorship is concerned , and frankly quite ridiculous.

On my Iphone 8 avsim is the only site that will not connect. It started a couple of days ago.Using Chrome or Safari there is no connection. But when using wifi it will connect.Can someone help me with this. Thanks. Avsim.com unexpectedly closed the connection "Err_connection_closed" is the message I get when trying to connect.

I have stopped receiving emails from AvSim for new posts on topics I’m subscribed to. Seems to have started overnight Sat into Sun. Are you aware if this and am I alone in missing them?

Opening a topic always goes to the top of the page, and not the first unread post. None of the other fora I read do this, anyone know why AVSIM does please?

Hi there. I am a relatively new AVSim user. I am in the middle of a flight using JoinFS and I noticed an "AVSIM Saturday Flight" hub there. That got me to thinking: is there a subforum here for people and groups to post community flights hosted by AVSim and its users?

Hello there, I have been an AVsim member for 3 or 4 years. I tried to logon last week to find my account has been deleted? (same user name). Why has my account been deleted? I've had to create a new one just to try and get support as I was unable to contact anyone which is rediculous considering, the rules state that you shouldn't create more than one account. I look forward to hearing back from you regarding this issue. Joe

Hi. I'm trying to do a simple search for "X-Plane 11 backup" and I have to wade through many, many other topics before I ever see anything about backup and the first one I find about backups is for P3D. What's going on with the search function? Thank you. Jeff Smith

I noticed logging in to Avsim just now I got a warning from Firefox that its certificate has expired. I overrode the warning anyway, has anyone else seen this today? I've had no problems with other websites that I usually visit, like Facebook or CNN, or the Arizona News service site. John

In the last few days of starting the Avsim forums, I have been getting a Google page saying that avsim.com is not secure and showing the httls:// in red. It says that my connection is not private and that I shouldn't proceed. It gives a reason as: NET:ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID. Where does the problem occur and what should be done to solve it? Apologies, I have now seen the post re certification expiry which is the same topic.

Loved the place until lately. Now I never know when or why one of my threads will be closed. I have had several closed and then PM's asking me why they closed it. Do the moderators here have any rules or guides to go by or are they more wild wild west. When I ran the largest RC forum on the net I called them unmoderated moderators so when I came on board the first thing I did was fire half the moderator staff and make up a set of rules for mods to go by. When a moderator says to me "I closed your thread because I did not think it was going to go anywhere" I knew they were just making things up as they go along.
