Help Using the AVSIM Forums

Until recently, I have always assumed that this function only applied to the vendor's level i.e. it was a 'logical site' being marked as read. I am now unsure Can I have clarification as to whether it means 'logical site' or the whole physical Avsim site that is made as read, please?

Why oh why must I make my gender known? The option to withhold such information must be made available... the minimum data to complete the task - I would not enter my address or telephone number on such a forum site, why do I need to disclose something such as gender? A

What's the difference between the Like and Upvote buttons on each post?

No longer showing on Homepage (front lower right) in Firefox or Chrome (since 12 March 2018)

Hello all, not sure what happened but for some reason, starting early this morning, my avsim front page seems to be broken (on all my PCs and tablet - so must be a profile issue?). Under Recent Topics on the right-hand side of the page, where the newer topics are usually listed I get only the following: Recent Topics ... ... ... ... No topics except for the dots show up. Any idea how I can fix this?

Hello team Avsim. Just a week ago or so, I posted a reply in this forum on a topic which, it seems was deleted, asking about the "hidden reply waiting for approval by a moderator" feature and asking about the criteria being used for selecting which posts or users to block or not. Today, just a few minutes ago, the same thing just happened to me. This is the 2nd time in a week (give or take) and it's not something I remember seeing here since the beginning of Avsim (which, as I mentioned in the deleted thread, I've been a member off since the older forum system back in 97-98). Can one of the moderators please help me. I have posted about regional aircraft in the P3D forum and replied recently to someone who had posted and when trying to post it the thing says hidden. Surely this can't be some sort of censorship can it? I have been respectful and simply offered an opinion about a particular topic. I just posted a reply to a post asking about FP import into FSL A320. To my surprise i got told that my post needs to be approved by a Mod first before it shows up. Did you seriously implement a keyword based approval process for any posts that mention FSLABS or FSL A320?

Almost every day I visit AVSIM.com. I am always interested in new forum topics, but not in all. I would like to see clear topic headings, relevant to the content, not things like 'Please Help Me' or something similar unclear. Please, forum members, make your topic clear in your title. But that is not the only possibility, that could help me to avoid (btw the slow loading) topics that would not interest me. I think it's reasonable easy to adapt the site so that it is possible to hover with the mouse over a topic header in the sidebar, to show (just) the relevant forum title. The last couple of days there seems to be a notification issue where I sometimes don't get any notification at all for topics I'm following where I other times get a notification but with a huge delay and sometimes I get the same notification more than once. Anyone else seeing this?

Posting an image in the AVSIM forums has become very easy. Copy the URL of the image you want to add to your message. Then, open up the image icon from the display above your message entry space. That is the Click on the third one to the right, a box with what appears to be a green globe in it. Simply paste your URL in it and you are good to go. You will need to center the image, if you wish or otherwise it will align to the left automatically. If you want to have an option to wrap text to the left or right of your image, use the BBCode selector. That is the third button to the right and the one just next to the FONT selection tool. Hi all, any chance for "edit" timeout to be longer? For example I just realized that I uploaded photos with bad resolution and would like to update the original post without spamming the topic with another batch of images. As of now I can't do that because edit is no longer available. A note **post edited could be added but it would keep forum much cleaner in my opinion.

I want to ask, how to mark a thread as "Problem solved" or something like that? In many communities it is a feature, to mark threads in that way, that helps members with one view, whether thy can find fast solutions in the thread. If it is not possible, you should think about it. It is a very useful and timesaving feature. Thanks for answering.

Any chance you could introduce v3 and v4 tags in the P3D forum as you did for FSX to separate Steam and non-Steam topics? Some discussion is only relevant to 64-bit so it would be helpful to filter out the ones I'm not interested in. Or perhaps 32-bit and 64-bit tags.

Hi... this isn't a complaint... but I feel I should mention that all of AVSIM is responding extremely slowly for me. I have several websites (fsdeveloper, eaglesoftdg, prepar3d.com) that I go to along with coming here... everywhere I go on the internet pages load quickly. Except here. This only started after the new year for me, oddly enough. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it in case there's something misbehaving somewhere.

AVSIM is have some performance issues with the site and we are aware of it and in the process of getting it fixed. Apologize for any inconveniences.

Recently I have see a problem in the screenshot forum where images I placed in my post are not showing, only the base name of the image is showing instead. The images are hosted on my own website and are linked to other locations and show fine. All the images are JPG files resized to 1024 width and are less than 200k. Its not consistent as to which image shows and which does not, some never show, some show occasionally, some no problem. Even older posts that displayed fine before have the problem, I have also checked a few random posts by others and the same issue seams to be happening. Sorry if this subject should be somewhere else, but I couldn't find any other discussion topic that seemed apt. For the last few days, all of a sudden, when I try to enter Avsim via Chrome, which I always have done, all I get is a white page with the Avsim heading, and then a long list in blue, of all the topics, heading down the page. If I click on a subject, nothing happens. I have managed to reach the normal forum, using Internet Explorer, but I don't understand what has happened to the way I normally enter. Hi, I'm getting multiple notification e-mails for the same posts lately. This morning (UTC 10:57 hours) I received 13(!) exactly the same e-mails about 1 new post in the Prepar3D forum that I'm following. I checked my notification settings, but I cannot find any setting that could cause this behavior. Any advice would be appreciated. Maarten

There is probably a simple answer somewhere, but after 10 minutes I can't find it, so here's my dumb question of the day: If I want to give a member positive reputation for a post, do I push the green upwards pointing arrow or the heart arrow? If one's the symbol for giving positive reputation, what's the other symbol for? If I push the green button, it goes to a red downwards button. What's that mean? An answer would be most appreciated, as there are posts for which a positive reputation is well deserved.
