Help Using the AVSIM Forums

How come, if someone attaches some images to a post, I cannot view them? I cannot click on the links they provide yet others seem to. What do I need to do to enable this please?Iain Smith

I tried to post a HTTP link to airlinersDOTnet .. an aircraft landing photo here on AVSIM.I got an error message saying AVSIM does not allow a link to that site.The site itself does permit users to "link" to photos.That say people cannot take a picture (jpg) of a picture on airlinersDOTnet the use the jpg elseware.So wondering why?

All, I've tried to upload a sample config file to a post... No matter what type of file attachment I try - I get "invalid file attachment type"... I've tried .txt .cfg .zip .gz .tar - - - - is there anyway to upload a text file to a post ???Regards,Scott

When using Firefox 3.6 / 3.6.2, the text entry fields on the "New Thread", "Edit", and "Reply" pages provide no cursor for typing... interestingly enough, a "Fast Reply" window does. When editing a post, I can use the mouse to block-select any existing text in the entry field, but I cannot manipulate it whatsoever. Attempts to delete, "replace" text by typing over the selection, or bold/italics - all do not function on text that was block selected. Additionally, the cursor keys do not move the text insertion point, nor is the standard "I" or "bar" cursor visible. Hi,this is my first post on this forum,or in fact any forum, so here goes, I want to recreate England/ East Anglia as it was during the latter stages of WW2, pretty much just a giant aircraft carrier, there were basically 2 types of bomber bases, the standard class A layout and the expansion type built in the late 1930s to deal with the looming threat. Perhaps I am overlooking the obvious, but am wondering if there is a way to "filter" the View New Content display.I usually click on the View New Content when I first arrive at the forums but am really not interested in seeing new posts from the PMDG forums or the X-Plane forum (as examples) as I do not have any PMDG items installed nor X-Plane.So I was hoping there might be a way for View New Content to display only new posts and replies from forums which I have selected. :Thinking: Thanks for any ideas.

Hi all,When I click on the link in an email advising me a new reply has been posted to a topic it would be really useful if it could take me straight to that reply. At the moment it takes me to the first post in the topic.Is this something I can configure myself or is it at your end?

I use CCleaner to clean up my PC and it allows me to choose which cookies to keep (Options > Cookies), so I don't have to re-login after cleaning. When I am in one of the forums and I wish to upload a picture and or a zip folder, and avsim tells me that I have Used 0bytes of my 1.95MB global upload quota. What dus global quota mean? Is it a life time quota? A yearly quota? A monthly quota? Or What? glidernut john lewis.

There is an option to use a spell checker when composing messages. When I click on it there is an error message which says it "cannot find iespell - please go to the download page" - or words to that effect.What download page is it referring to?Clarification would be appreciated.

when I do a search with the new forum system, once a thread is selected it jumps to the last post on page 1. Is there any way to have the page start at the top post?

I posted to a forum thread and indicated that I wanted email notifications. Well, I got my notification and ever since I get notifications every single time somebody posts a message to the thread (I did NOT start that thread).I have been trying to unsubscribe from it without success. The mail I get says I can do it by Viewing my Topics but I look in my profile panel and the only option that remotely resembles that is called "Topics" but there is no option to unsubscribe.How can I end that? I am getting my mailbox spamemd by all those messages.

Hello AvsimI like your new look forums(here comes the but)BUT!I have a problem with my cursor when posting/replying.It is not always visible.(whoops it just happened.)As I press enter for a new line the cursor vanishes.It might not sound much,but is rather disconcerting.Cheers Andy

I have searched for and been unable to find the option for "My Controls" or its equivalent. I have seen from browing other posts that this is where I should go to hide or unhide the forums I can see.Please point me in the right direction.

The favicon used for the forum pages is now some standard one instead of AVSIM's own. Would be nice to have the old one back.Cheers,Siggy

Tom -In a reply to another post (now locked) you advised that the flag of your country could be added to your profile from the edit profile dialogue by using a drop down menu for Country..There is an option for City and State - but I sure could not find the drop down menu for "Country" you referred to.Am I missing something obvious?

Hi there guysJust wondering if this new forum software supported a lo-fi version like before. It was often useful in places like the office to just dip in and out quickly. Also the Avsim forum has never been the the fastest performing forum for me where I live (Australia) so the lo-fi used to be great.Thanks,Max.

I noticed that there was an interesting tutorial highlighted in the "Latest Tutorials" box on the right side that I wanted to see, when I clicked it I got "You Do not Have Access to Tutorials". The same thing happens when I try clicking the Tutorials tab on the top of the screen.
