Help Using the AVSIM Forums

Ok, dont get me wrong, I think this new forum is cool, but I HATE the fact that whenever I go to a topic, I see only one reply at a time. I want to see EVERYONES reply at the same time, so I dont have to keep on clicking link after link just to see everyones replies. Is there a way so that it just displays all the replies without me having to click on each one individually?Thanks...

For me, as I suppose for many, AVSIM is THE Flightsim site on the internet. Since the beginning of the year though, it has become very hard to access. Either the file library or the forums - sometimes one, sometimes the other: sometimes both - bring up a timeout error ("The server at library.avsim.net is taking too long to respond").This almost never used to happen. Is it going to be an ongoing problem AVSIM? It's been like this for several weeks now. Hi has anyone else found the forum to be very slow lately, I've noticed its been pretty bad now for the last week almost, maybe more, it also doesn't matter what time of day it is. Does anyone else think the forum is getting a bit bloated with superfluous nik naks now and maybe this is the reason why things are so slow?When the forum switch first took place the forum speed was amazing for the first few weeks, now though things are getting that bad it rather irritating, it reminds me of the 90's and dial-up internet.

For the last few weeks, 80% of the time it takes forever to load the forums, change pages, etc. 10% of the time I can't get in at all, and the other 10% they work ok.Am I the only one having this problem?

Am frequently getting "IPS Driver Error" pages when visiting forum pages.(BTW: Never saw those with the good old forum system :))Siggy

The gallery has been offline all week. I am guessing that had something to do with the technical difficulties that occurred last weekend. The forums have been restored, but I'm wondering what the plans are regarding the gallery, which is currently offline.

Is there a way to prevent uploading images > 200 kb programatically? It would seem completely reasonable to build in a filter to relieve the moderator from time consuming task of screening posts and deleting oversize images in the screenshot forum. Besides, in deleting screenshots and admonishing posters to read and adhere to the posting guidelines, the moderator conveys the impression of being a petulant schoolmarm, which I am certain is not the case.

Is logging in now required for just viewing the forums? Without logging in, I don't have access to the individual forums, just the intro page.BobW

Is there a way to attach an image file to a post. This was possible with the previous forum version. When I click on the attach image icon in my post window a window opens to enter a URL link instead of browing to the file location on my PC. I assume this has been done to save forum server space and I will have to set up my own web space. Thanks in advance for your assistance in this matter.

Is there a reason that the forums are sooooooooooooooo slllllooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwww? This post took over a minute from when I clicked the new post button until the edit window came up. No problems with other sites, nice and snappy, just avsim.

Hi Tom and Gang,I'm having issues posting and/or replying to posts from my office location. I've tried just about everything... adding avsim.com, avsim.net, forums1.avsim.net, forums1.avsim.com, etc, etc, to my cookies and website exception options but to no avail. I can load and read all the posts but if I try to post a new one or reply to one it opens the 'Post a new' or 'Reply' page, displays the text-input section and then hangs.Never had any issues using the old forums and don't have any issues using other website forums, both FS and non-FS related.I'm using Firefox but have tried IE.... both fail.Any help appreciated

I want to view new posts sorted by forum then by newest listed first. Is there a FAQ descibing how to accomplish this? I cannot seem to find a reference.thanks

How do you manage to stay logged in without having to go to the login each time?? For me it varies. Sometimes I can go back days later and still be logged in okay and then there are days like today when I log in and then go back 3 hours later and have to log in again. I have read the FAQ about this issue but it still wont work.I have it as a trusted site, have cookies turned on and have the remember me ticked, only use the Vista fallwall. I log in from the line at the top and yet unlike the previous software the results vary. The previous software left me logged in for months without problems.

With ALL due respect to the AVSIM honchos, requiring cookies is a royal pain in the butt.Even with firewalls and filters I get tens of tracking cookies stuck in my files every day when some site requires cookies.Cookies may be an aid, in some small way, to the site operator in identifying a user but each time I encounter a cookie requirement I have to go to Internet Tools, Privacy and unblock!Is't logging in enough?Again, I appreciate all you folks do but toss the cookies out the cargo hatch.JimVT

Offering a little help here, to be able to get those dynamic images properly displayed, ou have to allow Dynamic Images. That's via ACP->Tools and Settings->Security and Privacy->Allow dynamic imagesYou also have to allow the image type of PHP.. Some time back, I received EMails daily listing the new posts and if I remember, new downloads, and other bits of information that made it very easy to keep up with whatever subject of interest..........now, for some reason, I don't get this service, I have the same address so that is not the problem, but I did redo the computer but don't think that would affect it, so can the staff let me know what I should do to get this working again?? That surprised me, because it seemed to me that most participants seemed interested, and even though no forum rules were violated. On any active public board, there are inevitably posts made by individuals who aren't very concerned with the topic. Struggling to find the timezone setting in these forums (fora?)

HI -Two quick questions regarding the new forum format -1. Under the posters picture (if he/she has one) is a small "warn" sign and a slider. What is that all about?2. When you hold your cursor over a topic there is a help box which pops up saying if you hold it there you can edit the title. Why would there be an option for anyone - other than the original poster - to change the title?Just curious. :(
