I'm a Vatsim noob and I have my ID and password and when I recieved the email announcing the arrival of Squawkbox 3.0 I finally decided to try it out but I can't seem to connect nor can I connect to www.vatsim.net Is the whole network down or is there a problem on my end? If the main website is down does that mean the ATC servers are down too?

Since discovering VATSIM a few years ago, flightsimming never was the same for me again. It just blew my mind and lifted simming to a whole new dimension. Right now, I'm actually not that active since I'm awaiting the arrival of SB3, but after that....Anyway, I've always flown airliners IFR and learned the RT for that pretty well. I'm not a pilot IRL but plan to take a Ultralight certificate perhaps this year. Therefore I now have a strong interest in starting flying more VFR but the RT is at least slightly different from IFR. During Vatsim events, I've been having trouble withother aircraft plowing into me on the taxiways.Can I avoid this by going squawkmode Con pushback?I've always thought you had to wait till runway threshold before squawking. What's the protocol?Thanks in advance.Slugger

I used to fly on VATSIM all the time. But then several things happened: 1.) FS2002 came out, and it had usable (albeit weak) ATC; 2.) then Ultimate Traffic came along and made flying with near real world traffic levels pretty interesting; next 3.) FS2004 came along with improvements to both ATC and AI; and during all this 4.) it just got plain hard to connect to VATSIM using SB while running FS2002/4.Connecting was just too much hassle; and I could have a pretty enjoyable time flying offline. This is my first experience on Vatsim, I can get connected and everything seems to be ok except that the auto pilot do not connect and if I disconnect from Vatsim a/p returns to normal and works. Any idea what it can be? I would appreciate your helpThanksAndreI fly with PMDG B737-800

A new edition of the infamous "FULL SAG" is coming up on Friday, February 25th: All important airports as well as all Centers in the VACC-SAG area (Switzerland, Austria, Germany) will be fully staffed. City hopping, quick flights in between major airports in three countries and a nice mix of heavy-metal IFR traffic and "lawnmower" VFR traffic - everything is possible during this event. If you modify an airport with an AFCAD file, does thatmean you'll probably have conflicts with others flying on VATSIM who don't have their airport similarly modified?Thanks in advance.Slugger

Hi all in the forum. Could someone please give me an answer regarding flight levels and RVSM. I assume by now that all of europe is using this system. I have read that all Easterly flights from 0 to 180 are odd and all westerly flighghts from 181 to 359 are even. So if I am flying a flight from Gibralta to London Gatwick and my flight seems to be mainly around 0 to about 020 should this be odd or even? to me it should be odd, but i filed an odd flight plan and was asked by ATC to change to even. When I try to connect to Vatsim or IVAO using Servingo 2.02, I get "Error Message 10061" . . . "can't load any info."Any suggestions?Also, is anyone using Servinfo? The information on the Vatsim site seems comprehensive.Thanks in advance.Slugger

Just curious, has anybody ever heard a female controller on VATSIM? I know this hobby is mainly guys, but just curious... I hear a lot of female r/w controllers where I fly, but I've never heard one on VATSIM...-Marc

I currently use a dial up 56k connection(actually only manage 50K average) when flying online with VATSIM. Usually I have no issues. But lately when I fly an event or fly in, my system starts to bog down, I get frame rate stutters and more than a few times complete lock up. I run FS9.1 on XP home, AMD 3000+, 1 gig ram, ATI 9800 SE 128 megs. Once i shut down FS and bring her back up, offline I have to issues. Once I get back online with VATSIM, like last night with the DC fly in, I get "req send/recive player" error messages, no response from ATC and massive frame rate issues. Anyone know what could be causingt this?David Keech

This was one of the largest events I have participated in in Vatsim. It was very gratifying to see all the aircraft. But, as I was trying to contact approach and make a transition for vectors toward landing, my computer locked up. To make a long story short, I could not finish a flight in which I had invested almost 3 hours.I think I have a hefty enough computer, 2.6mh mobo oc'd to 3.13. I use Ken Salter's startup program to shut down unneeded programs to devote as mmuch resource as possible to FS9.My question is whether anyone else with similar iron has had this problem on large vatsim flyins. Well, after fiddling around with my internet setings. I can sucessfully get connected and be shown on VATSIM/Servinfo. however, I'm permanently in Accra. Regardless of where I am in the world. No ATC listings work, nor can I communicate with anyone..So, can only tell me how I can:-be shown correctly-communicate.THANK YOU!!! :-D

Hi,I have been using SB for many years and for the first time I am unable to log on. I get the alert box - "You have been disconnected from the server". The list 4 reasons below.1) I have tried all the servers same problem. I can Ping the servers OK. (No Firewalls etc)2) Upgrade SB I am using SB 2.3 Beta3) User ID checked, rechecked, re entered.4) ATC ID OKAny other suggestions would be appreciated.Regards,Andrew

Hi, I'm having a problem with my flight simulator - when flying online (well, trying to) it closes just like that with no apparent reason. I'm using SB 2.3.5, HostSB.dll and SBRelay.The whole situation looks like that:I start FS/SB, connect to Vatsim, taxi/take off/whatever, and after some time (totally random to me) FS disappears, SB disappears, what remains is working SBRelay and AVC. Sometimes FS leaves its process, sometimes does not. This happens ONLY when on VATSIM, so this imply to be a SB-FS issue. So it seems almost every time I fly on VATSIM, I'm being disconnected. I have a router I go through, don't think it's that, but perhaps you guys have another address I could try connecting through? All of a sudden in flight I get my little network computer icon coming up with a red x through it saying I'm disconnected, then I have to go through the whole process again - very annoying. I've updated the AIRAC and SID/STAR/IAP files for my PMDG 737 800/900. Assuming I've done this correctly, I've noticed that some of the SIDs are missing (LAXX5 at KLAX for example). If I get a clearance to depart via LAXX5 SID, do I try to approximate the departure by programming it in the FMC?Not really sure how to proceed when the SID you're cleared for isn't in the FMC database.Thanks in advance.Slugger

When starting at a US airport, would it be possible to have foreign registration? I know it might be a stretch, but I saw a G-**** registration at Martin State (KMTN) once. - I am asking this because I am a Pole going to school in the US and the only time I can fly, the controllers in Warsaw are away.Second question, how would I file for a "test" flight on VATSIM? I know there is a GOLDA VFR just outside of Martin State, and I fly there in real life, so can I just put D-> where it says "Route" on the flightplan page, and then just cruise out to GOLDA, do some manouvers then come back?Thanks!
