I'am flying to an unfamilliar area, How should I know which controller to select when entering his airspace, is there any tools that tells you what airspace you are in or who to contact first.

I really enjoy flying online but it sure seems like there are a lot of planes and airports out there not under ATC control. Why isn't it possible to have unicom frequencies on the voice servers so we could at least report our positions and landing intentions? Even better if the range could be limited to 50nm or so so that all the traffic on the unicom would at least be local/regional. Has anyone worked on this? ThanksDavid

Im doing my first atlantic crossing this saturday on vatsim, and i was wondering if there are any special procedures? like do i have to request clearence to enter oceanic airspace?adam

I am a newbie to online flying. Even though, i am happy just flying, it is driving me crazy not knowing what is going on under the covers when it comes to thinking about how the online ATC like VATSIM works? Here is what i am struggling with:FS9 requires multiplayer session in order for multiple aircrafts to be present in the same virtual world. Hence SB3 creates a multiplayer session in the local FS9 instance and later asks to log onto a VATSIM server. So, the question is when SB3 connects a multiplayer session, a) is it creating a new MP session on the local host (I don't think so). Then how is it connecting with other individuals into my local mp session?:( is it joini…

I am sure this question has been answered somewhere, but my searches have turned up nothing.If I am flying to an uncontrolled airport, how do I get the ATIS information while inflight? I am not sure which runway to use without it, and I'd rather not buzz the windsock with my B-757.I know that I can ask the center contoller, but I wish there was a way to do this without taking up their time. Also, there are times when center is not even online.

Hi all in the forum.Thought I would share this with you all as it is a laugh at my expense. Yesterday I did an online flight from EPKK to EGSS as controllers were at each end and mostly all the way according to Vatsims booking system. The take off went well and the controllers were handing me off and the flight was very enjoyable. However I was very fatigued (nothing to do with the couple of glasses of wine at dinner honest)and I fell asleep at the pc (operating it from an armchair) so I missed my decent call and every other call right up to EGSS Tower. so if you were manning either ESSEX radar or EGSS tower Sunday 22nd at around 10pm local then my apologies for seemingly…

Has anyone been having problems with ServInfo loosing connection to the servers lately? I am running SB3 and SI seems to get lost more frequently than before.

Since updating SB to the new version 3.0.3 I have run up against a considerable nightmare? For some reason prior to the instal (which was straight over the top of 3.0.2 I hastened to add) FS and SB ran perfectly on my machine, it was a dream to fly online even got reasonable frame rates - but - since the update my pc continues to freeze and I have lost some voice connection capability with online controllers?, they can hear me with a readability of 5 but I cannot hear them or any other online traffic? Hi,I was wondering if anyone could help me out?The problem:I go throught the rigmarole...takeoff..just after take off (LEAL) 10.4 out on RWY10, I turn and FS stops reponding?! I can access the menus but the panel (PSS+iFDG) and the scenery (sim-wings) stops and I cant do anything...I can still talk on SB but thats it. It also happened in the UK area too.anyone know how or what to do to sort it out?

I just want to congratulate and say thanks to all the guys involved in SB3.0 and to the VatSim network in general!!!, I used to fly in the network a lot a few years ago and now I'm back with SB3.0 and it's been a real treat to see the new amazing software, at the same time the quality of the online experience is awesome!, thanks to all the controllers and pilots that fly VatSim!!! I've just gotten a new computer, however, I can't get Servinfo to work on it. I'm not running any firewall on the computer, however, I have a router with a firewall. Does anyone know the proper ports that Servinfo needs to use so that I can open them?Thanks,

The visual display page doesn't work anymorewhen I connect to Vatsim. There are aircraft showing,but they aren't updating or matching the list of who's online.Anyone else having this problem, or know how to get the display page working again?Thanks in advance.Slugger

i bought a headset today and when i go to calibrate it i get the error about how my voice is to low, and when i go to listen to the playback, there is no sound at all. so i went to control panel and went to configure microphone and did all the stuff there and my mic worked fine, i heard my voice in playback and the sound meter thing moves, but yet it doesnt work in SB. i have a SB live audio ECEO sound card.adam

Hi all,I installed SB3, and I went out and bought a computer headset with mic to communicate on VATSIM with. I installed AVC, but I cannot communicate on VATSIM with voice. HiI had my very first ATC assisted flight on Saturday into NZCH. What a buzz that was. SB3 installed and worked first time and was completely trouble free for me.When I created and filed my flight plan, I just called myself QF900 without giving any thought as to what the procedures mught be for naming oneself on Vatsim - or for that matter - whether someone else was using that nickname. If so, I apologise, it was completely unintentional.Are there are "standards" in terms of what we call ourselves on-line? Can I just pick a flight number and airline to suit the livery I have on the bird or is there a set of established protocols that others follow and that I should comply…

I tried my first flight with fsinn today, and used avc for audio. But, avc would not switch automatically to a new controller, even when I dialed in the fqy on my inflight radio. Is there something that I am missing. I do have avc set up as my default audio generator for FSINN. Other than that, all went well. In fact, and I hate to say this considering all the work that has gone into SB3, FSINN seems to be the better program, imo. For one thing, FSNav can export to it, something which it has taken a new 3rd party conversion program to achieve with SB3. Anyway, thanks for any help on this.... I'm going to post this message on avsim and fltsim...and wherever I get my answer…
