Hi, little question that has been bugging me for awhile.Frequently when receiving taxi clearences it will be in the form"ABC1234, taxi to runway 18L"which I'm curious if I should interpret as "taxi to and hold short" or "taxi into position at". In the past I've always assuming taxi to and hold short unless instructed otherwise but I'm just curious if that is a requirement. I certaintly prefer being able to get into position and line up on the runway before having to advise ATC I'm in position and holding and frequently traffic is never a factor.I have about 250 hours on VATSIM so I proably should know the answer to this, but at least I won't have to spend the next 250 in …

Hi!I decided to participate in the great UK flyin this evening and it was great fun. Got to execute a "real" hold, put by PIC767 thru the paces and felt the pressure of a very crowed sky!I ALMOST completed the entire flight (2 hours with holds) and was on final for Heathrow cleared to land when..... an unnamed Labrador Retriever entered the cockpit and laid her big head on the keyboard. Well it took me to the desktop and I could not recover squawkbox. I exited quickly so as not interfere with traffic. Even without landing it was well worth the time!It was only the second time I have flown in Europe with VATSIM and I want to thank the controllers along the way for their e…

I just entered the world of VATSIM a few days ago, and have been doing a few flights in the European area late in the evening. I use Servinfo and Wazzup to see which controllers are online and then plan a flight accordingly.Several times now, when I am about 20 mins out from my destination and contact the relevant controller he has told me that he is closing down and leaves me with no ATC.My question is, is there a way to contact the controller in advance and ask him how long he intents to be on line for? That way I can make sure that when I plan a flight, the destination ATC facility will still be open when I arrive. Thanks and regardsTimEHAM

Gentlemen,I have a complaint which I hope will be seen as constructive.I have just spent the last hour trying to find chart tutorials, but have drawn a blank. I can easily find tutorials on becoming a controller but pilot tutorials...forget it.Years ago when I joined SATCO I downloaded a number of tutorials from thier excellent ground school but those documents do not seem to exist.VATSIM-UK used to have a good source of tutorials but the apparent never ending web site upgrades and those of UKVPO seem to have lost those. All this effort was to try to help a new pilot in another forum learn to read IAP, SID & STAR charts, the only way it seems possible is to e-mail my o…

(Copy pasted from the AVSIM homepage yesterday)VATSIM Sets New Records In Greek ATC MarathonPosted: Monday, April 22, 2002 - 9:55A jubilant message from Vangelis Hassiotis, VATSIM Supervisor:Athens, Greece -- April 22, 2002 -- The 28-hour ATC Mararathon that was organised by the Hellenic (Greek) vACC last week (April 13 & 14) has managed to set several new all-time records in terms of an all-network, continuous on-line ATC coverage and number of aircraft movements. Never before have there been so many flights recorded in a single event, organised within the boundaries of a single, and relatively small, controlled airspace such as the Athens FIR.Triple filtering and te…

Could a rep from vatsim please tell me why while flying a f/p from klax to ksfo as UA 1853 at aprox 2130, I was shut down by a supervisor!!! I was in contact with bay app. being vectored for a left downwind to the ils 28R. and was told by the controller to disregard the messages! After a lot of planning, reroutes, etc, that was a sorry end to my flight! Rant Mode Off, Jim

Saturday, 27th April 2002 from 1700 UTC (1900LT) to 2200 UTC (2400LT)The idea:Pilots depart from one of the given airports (LHBP, LKPR, LOWW) and fly to another airport, to ma…

Greetings all,Just wondering if anyone can help woth one or both of the questions I have:(1) Does each server have it's own isolated environment, or are all the servers linked. For example, if I am connected to the USA-S1 server, will aircraft connected to the EUROPE-C server also be present, or will only the aircraft connected on the same server as me (USA-S1) be present.(2) Relating to Pro Controller, what is the defference between a and a V as the aircraft symbol.Any help with these questions would be greatly appreaciated.Regards :-wave,Chris BrunnerCYVR

Hi fellas,First off I have to say a BIG thank you to the Hellenic ATC guys who made this realistic event! I'm a pilot in Saudi Arabian Virtual Airlines (www.sv-virtual.com), and like the real SV we fly to Milan, Italy from Jeddah via Athens, Greece in the MD-90-30 :D So the ATC & LGAV scenery really changed the whole experience of being a VA Pilot since I was taxying in a SimFlyers quality scenery that was being controlled by ATC and was buzzing with other virtual pilots! I flew 4 flights using the Greek ATC, these 4 flights being flights from the schedule of my VA: Jeddah-Athens, Athens-Milan, Milan-Athens, Athens-Jeddah.The funny thing is that no matter how much pre…

Ok, I only got to do a short flight from Rodes to Athens (LGAV), which I intended to continue, but got busy with other things (read: Midtown Madness & a Ferrari F50 :D).Anyway, the callsign was DK422/Viking 422 and the aircrat was a Premiair A330 of POSKY. I got the most awesome sight of the Greek islands, complete with hills covered by clouds, all died in a wonderful dark pink color by the clouds. That terrain mesh sure was awesome. The approach into Athens was a high-speed, first time I've tried that, doing 310 kts all the way until the turn to establish on the ILS, and then I did an (almost) simultanous approach. I was on approach to 03R with a OAV aircraft (didn't …

Hi all associated with VATSIM,After many years of flightsimming, I finally took the plunge and bought a headset/microphone and got myself set up for online flying. I took my first flight Thursday night (KLAS-KLAX), and have since done two more (KSFO-KSAN, KDFW-KATL). I want to say that I could not believe how much it added to my enjoyment of the flying! Even when I had to type transmissions, or when I was cruising along with 20 minutes between communications, the feeling of having real people around me and controlling me was incredible. It certainly made me take the flights that little bit more seriously. In fact, it took me quite a few minutes to work up my courage …
