Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Hi Folks, I downloaded the Winds Aloft for Eastern Canada today & from 24000 to 45000ft for St. Johns Nfld, all the wind directions started with 7, ie 744054, I thought the first two digits were wind direction, dropping the least significant figure, the second two the wind speed & the last two the negative temperatures when above 24000ft. I would like to know what the 7 is telling me for the wind direction. Thanks Desmond

This will work with the erj-145 or the Peregrine or any other regional jet. Is there interest? I know that we have purists out there, but this is in the spirit of quick mods in the panel section. let me know. this panel would have some upper gauges working, such as the ones that you see. also notice the more pronounced shadow right under the upper section of the main panel--this is to create more depth.tony

I just uploaded a pack of 13 Navy guys to put on the Nimitz, or Jans carrier if you have it. They are all flat low poly objects.http://www.wrexhamspace.org/avsim/fs011.jpg Also in the pack is the Tri Nimitz and the new hardend deck to land your Helicopters on it. You will have to add the new deck with the Fly2 built in editor. To add the people use the built in editor and place one (guy) on the sea. Double click the guy and a new box will open. Remove the snap to ground option and use your "Q" key to elevate the guy to its right elevation on the carrier. "A" is down and the middle 5 key is stop. You will have to use this for adding the new deck on the Nimitz too.Download …

  5. It's been a very long time since I last used Fly2! Meanwhile I have been busy mainly with MSFS and X-Plane, but also ELITE.Among the various flightsims I have used there is **ONLY** one where pspecial attention is payed to the accuracy of instruments readings. A good example is the turn coordinator with standard rate turn marks, either bar-style or little airplane style (like in the B200 and in the C172).This very basic instrument, part od the sacred six, should be used to check not only turn coordination but also to help the pilot perform standard rate turns (3 degrees per second, or, a complete turn in two minutes). When one uses the turn coordinators with 2' turn markin…

G'day all,With all the newfound interest in the Nimitz aircraft carrier I have uploaded 2 static models, of the Fairey Gannet which is a carrier bourne anti-submarine aircraft of the 1960's, for you to decorate the carrier with. Allow time for the Library to process the upload as I have only just uploaded. For the technically minded I have used a 1024 x 1024 crammed tif for the textures so repainting will be easier. I also altered my render.ini to allocate 2 1024 textures. That gave me the 50 fps as seen in the attached pic with 3 gannets added to the carrier. Cheers,Roger 6nm. SSW YSSY

Hi all,as you may have read in this Forum Jan M. Herigstad gave me his unfinished BETA version of an aircraft carrier for FLY!. He won't upload the model to the library as it does not have the high quality standards of his other work but gave me the right to spread it.So if anyone is interested in doing some real challenge landings, drop me a line (over AVSIM) and I'll mail the files to you. This model is really functional as you can land and taxi :-) all over the flightdeck, all is hardened. And believe me, if you increase reality by adding some wind (30 knots, degrees as your crossing flightdeck is positioned, the carrier would get into the wind AND move forwards, so wind…

Hi all,http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103384.jpgmay be some (or all???) of you know about the hidden treasure of the FLY! "generic.pod" - the Nimitz aircraft carrier.I was really surprised about the many details and nice features. Not that I want to play WAR with FLY! but landing on it with a helo or a small fixed wing aircraft is fun.The only problem is, the surface isn't hardened, you'll sink in.IS THERE A POSSIBILITY FOR YOU SPECIALISTS TO HARDEN THE SURFACE OF THIS WONDERFUL MODEL? You'll find it in the "generic.pod", Nimitz2.But until then we can use this model, you may do the work yourself(Nimitz.mlf: BEGIN Nimitz2.smf,"Aircraft Carrier",CGhlNSTu,Ships END)or l…

G'day all,I've just set some sort of a record ( for me :-) ) Normally I drop offline from the server after only about 5-10 minutes.I've just spent an hour flying online ( all on my lonesome I might add ) without dropping offline from the server. When I did finally drop offline it was due to my time with my ISP expiring. Was I just lucky?? ; good connection ?? or what? I was flying the Navajo. I'm on a 56K dial up modem.I find it strange that TRI keep the server active if they have no intention of continuing to develop Fly! (food for thought)Tonight I'll give it another try.Cheers,Roger

Hi all, I am currently looking to purchase a new computer. My old computer is 8 yrs old and it`s about that time. So,what I am seeking is some feedback on what I should get. The 2 "sure" things are that it is going to be a Dell and cost is not a problem. So can anyone give me some info on what I will need to make sure FlyII runs smooth with no stutters and will be capable of handling any new add-ons? Thanks people.Qdog

I happen to see that an old sim, aerowinx ps1.3, which is strictly a dos sim has a utility that allows users to connect it to fs2002 for scenery. Clearly, this is done with two computers sharing data. If it were possible for FLY2, imagine the results. We'd get the planes and the panels of FLY2 , and the scenery of msfs. Why not?tony

In the GTFO file there is no report. In the event properties in Windows XP Admin tools I see 2 errors, the 1000 error & 1001 error. In the 1000 error is message "Faulting application Fly2.exe. Faulting Module: ntdll.dll version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x0001lefe".My question is what does ntdll.dll have to do with running Fly2?Any help or suggestions would be greatly aprieciated. I have just uploaded a multiple ILS repair for the PMDG airport Eleftherios Venizelos, Athens, Greece (LGAV).The update covers the following approaches: ILS/DME Rwy 03L, ILS/DME Rwy 21R, ILS/DME Rwy 03R, & ILS/DME Rwy 21L. This update resolves the interference problem for the 03L & 21R localizers, adds the new 03R localizer, and corrects the DME placement for all 4 approaches. YOU MUST BE A LICENSED OWNER of the PMDG GREEK AIRPORTS PACKAGE TO USE THIS UPDATE, as LGAV is not a part of the default Fly!II database. This is an unauthorized fix and is not supported in any way by PMDG. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/101966.jpg This fix was produced back in 2002 a…

Hi all,I tried to follow the instructions using my best schoolboy French in Didier Rigault's Didac-twy-v3 zip so I could corrrect the French taxiways in the taxiwayusa POD and install France-taxi-f2-v3.Alas I found my schoolboy French wasn't adequate and so had to stop after changing taxiusa using notepad.Whilst changing the text I noted that for LFPB there is only a .BGR and no .TMS file. After stopping I went to Le Bourget and noted there are no taxiways there.Firstly,is this a FlyII bug?Secondly,is there anyone who can kindly translate the instructions from French to English:-beerchug
