The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I got an extra copy of FLY 2 on Ebay from global star software. To my surprise they said to call Take Two for support. Out of curiosity I called and found out FLY 2 IS supported AND currently available NEW for $14.95. This might explain PDMG opening the 777 and 757 up for sale, albeit sans support. The last story I got from TRI years ago was that FLY was NOT available. Don't quote me on it but when I tried to use the Global CD with ROTW's DVD it didn't recognise it as the U.S. or European release version. It didn't occur to me to check which version it was, it MIGHT be pre-patched to 210. I wound up using my version 157 instead. What I hear…

G'day all,I have aksed the Library to remove the Jabiru. I don't know why but there is a problem. I downloaded it from the library, cleaned out the art-data-models-world folders and it works fine on my computer (clean install of european version), but others cannot get it to work in outside view.I'm very sorry for any inconvenience caused.Cheers,Roger

This is the wonderful erj-145 model by Jarno Deken. Version 3 is simply a cockpit modification and a few model tweaks. Enjoy.tony

G'day all,The deed is done! The Jabiru is now uploaded and will be available for downloading once processed by the library managers. This is the result of a lot of hard work by all the developers for Fly! II. Without their efforts we wouldn't have a hobby.Enjoy,Roger @YSSY

I was flying on-line tonight and caught a lot of grief from the controllers. I was using the DC-9 and was cleared to FL340 which is what the altimeter in the plane read. Well VATSIM didn't think so, they said I was at FL350. So I look at the map and click on the plane and sure enough I was at FL350.It would appear the altimeter registers 1,000 ft. less than the altitude the plane is at. I was cleared down to FL330 and had to set the altimeter at 31,970 to get to that altitude. So, what am I getting at here. Is there anyway to change a file for the DC-9 to correct this problem? Perhaps I should not fly the DC-9 on-line and pick another plane. If there is not an easy fix I w…

Many apologies to those who may have spent fruitless time searching to download the Jabiru.Shortly after uploading I discovered a few errors so I had it removed. The good news is that once again I have uploaded the file and it will shortly be available to download. Does anyone know how to get rid of pink ground tiles? I am importing a satellite image of Bountiful Skypark (BTF) in Utah and get a red or pink shift in color from a natural looking image. Initially the image is exported from a USGS photo viewer program as a JPEG (*.JPG) file and I use PaintShop Pro (trial) to save it as Targa (*.TGA) to import. I have tried importing directly via the 'fly2slice.exe' program and a modified output text file borrowed from TerraScene 2.1, as well as thru the Scenery Editor (Ctrl+E) from within Fly! II. I have resized the image, but still can't get rid of the reddish/pink hue. The globe tile is 176,159 (x,z). The sub-tile withing this g…

G'day all, Just a few pre release pics of the Jabiru. It's time to give a huge thanks to all the developers and forum members who have given assistance to the production of this aircraft.Jean Sabatier - for his excellent tutorials on making aircraft.Elrond Elvish (flygraphics) and Matthew Horridge (PBX maker) - for their graphic file conversion programs. All the people on the Fly! forums for answering my cries for help. There are too many to name but you know who you are. Finally none of this would be possible if it wasn't for the great s3d converter for Truespace 3.2 by Chris Wallace. To all above I thank you for making my hobby so enjoyable and I hope you derive some degre…

If you have downloaded the CYXS airport I need to know if you have had a problem with the way the airport scenery appears.I recently upgraded my system, which I do not believe is causing the problem, but I find that the parking lot and trees appear on the taxiway.Has anyone had that problem? If there is a problem I can re-do the airport.

Hello, everyone,I just installed Fly! II again, after several years. When I bought Fly2 in 2001 (European version) I was also a member of this forum and AVSIM. I remember that someone had created a program that created little houses and trees that you could watch while flying, in particular while landing. I can't remember the exact program, can someone please help me? Also I have a problem with Fly! II. When I start the program and quit when viewing the configuration window I get an error. Is this normal? Thanks for your help.Regards,Marc

Hi All, I would like to know how a person tunes in a TACAN, as according to all the approach plates I have with TACAN approaches on they seem to have Chanel numbers instead of Frequencies. Also they don't show up on the map in FLY!! although they are in the Navaid Pod with a type number 4. I can pick them up if I get the freq. from the navaid pod.Any explanation of these would be aprieciated. Thanks Desmond

With the help of Daniele Tona, I've finished creating MAP files for the set of US Terminal Area Chart images uploaded by Matt Fox. Matt's upload contained JPG chart images for use with FSMovingMap. All I've done is to convert these into ECW format, then Daniele and I created the MAP files so that they can be seen in the Fly! II map viewer.I am uploading the ECW images separately from the MAP files, since there may still be a few refinements or fixes that can be made to the MAP files and it will be easy to provide a new download for them alone. The ECW images are about 59 MB in total, the MAP files only about 15 KB.Have a look for them in the Fly! II Navigation section …

I suspect it's the infometar that causing my puter to CTD after 30 mins of using Fly2. I tried using the other sim with no problem at all. Has anyone experience Directx error (see my previous post)when downloaded metar is used? or is it the M$ bug when your not using their game? Any clue?chris_CA

Hi all, this very early developing stage is now available on the FLY! wikihttp://flylegacy.dyndns.org/twiki/bin/view/Fly/FlyTweakerIt is only a very small download. There is no manual yet (and only some functions which could be described) but I think the program is easy to use. I give some hints on the FLY wiki.If you test it, please give me some feedback. It works great on my PC, but that means nothing - the program got through a very rapid development phase as I could use code snipplets from my landsat7 program. Please report bugs!RegardsGeorg HeliFLYer EDDWYOU ALL WHO ANSWERED ME - I hope you are NOT disappointed! You may have thought of a DLL TASKmanager, but this is be…

Hi all,I had to stay at home for 2 days due to bad health. So I used the time to do some programming work.It is not only for the ROTW installation that I am switching *.DLLs off to get better performance but it was the trigger to realize something I was thinking about for a longer period. It works fine on my PC but as I did it within that short time it is some sort of a BETA. And I will put in some more features in the next time. Therefore I will not upload it to the AVSIM server but to the FLY wiki - it will be there until Saturday as I am off to work for a longer period.I hope that some people are intested in those little helper and give some feedback.http://forums.avsim…

Due to the overwhelming response on the US TACs (4 downloads so far! woo-hoo!), I've uploaded ECW and MAP files for the two lonely Alaska TACs, Anchorage and Fairbanks. Hurry and get them before the other Fly!ers consume all of AVSIM's bandwidth budget for the month! :+Chris WallaceOttawa, Canada
