The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Richard Harvey argued this point hard, but does anyone have any tricks for making flying in heavy scenery and yet not be plagued with disk access, which causes fps pauses? The video card shows very little activity in the 128 and 256 bit slot usage, yet the hard drive light keeps lighting. this is what tells me that it's not a render.ini issue, but simply how FLY2 accesses complex scenery that is not cached.tony

Hi folks,Some guys asked me for a template to make repaints for the ROTW-ATR 42 in a somewhat more repainter-friendly way.I did the initial painting of the ATR and I am going to prepare a real "ROTW_ATR42_PAINTKIT".( PSP format )Paint-kits are very common in Fs9 , but we have never seen them for FLYII! airplanes. So, there must always be a " first-time" and I think it`s time now.The "ROTW_ATR42_PAINTKIT" will be available shortly from the ROTW/Simvol website.RegardsLeen "Flybike" de Jager (ROTW-painter)

G'day all,I don't know if anyone remembers Danny Vickers. He was a very productive Fly! (1&2) simmer from a few years ago.Danny is currently a check captain on Lockheed P3 Orions (anti submarine/maritime surveilance) in the Australian Air Force.I have his files for modified Aussie airports/taxiways/nav aids and have received his permission to upload to the Avsim Library so over the comming weekend I'll dig around and get them uploaded.

Hello, would it be possible to increase the speed at which the knobs spin within the sim? I find that at the moment it takes a very long time to make a 180 degree change on any of the radio navigation instruments. I really like the speed that PMDG put into the 777's selectors. Is there a way to do this without a DLL? Maybe a simple PNL file hack or something is possible?ThanksCory Burke

I'm having some technical problems with my Linux server that hosts the Wiki, so it will likely be down at various times over the next week or so. I'll post a followup when things are working properly.Chris WallaceOttawa, Canada

Has anyone created the Stafford Regional Airport in northern Virginia? I have tried several times and have given up. I can get the runway down but never figured out how to get the ground flattened out correctly. I was wondering if anyone has it already done. It's a great airport, flown in and out of their a few times....http://www.airnav.com/airport/KRMN

Beralex and TJ have created Bedarieux, another small french mountain airport but this time, with a grass runway included in the 2D ground textures (no TRI grass runway). We think it's more realistic, and have the project to continue like that for other airports: what do you think of this idea?Have a look to the simvol page linked in the "headlines": : "a new kind of grass runway: Bedarieux (France)" and try it (don't forget to install the ground textures of Montpellier (headlines: "Montpellier area 2D scenery in photo-realistic textures").Remark: in the Montpellier Ground textures pack, there is an error in the "readme file". If you have installed "France_SE_SRTMv1.zip", r…

I can't start it again, only if I change aircraft.I've used auto startup.Does any one face this problem or knows where I got lost? Thanks for any help___ JJLobo ___55 11 37268158

Hi,ROTW continues the codification of the waypoints allowing VFR.We have now created more than 1.300 VFR waypoints, relative to :- the totality of France,- the totality of Denmark,- the totality of Italy and Malta- the main British airportsand a first series of German, Spanish (including Canary Islands), Sloven and Swiss airports !As you can see, we have followed up Wayne's creations for 3D airports, since Denmark and Canary Islands are located in our last release.I also strongly recommand a new visit to English sceneries, particularly Manchester-Liverpool and the London area: flying there is a real pleasure with VFR maps and waypoints. For instance, you can do heli-VFR f…

Hello All!!!Hope one of you who visits the forum on a regular basis can help me with a problem which has been bugging me since first getting our PC a couple of years ago now.Shortly after getting our new PC, like all good flight simmers, I installed "Fly!" Not long after that, I purchased and downloaded the Wilco Publishing 737 for "Fly!" (PC version, by the way.)I was a complete "newbie" at the time with installing add-ons, so I had some trouble with getting the aircraft to appear in the selection menu. Once I did it was worth the effort, as it was a nice aircraft to fly. Unfortunately, though this is about where I hit problems.Did'nt realise until after the Wilco 73…

Nice plane with nice handling characteristic, especially during takeoff. In landing, however, the flaps extension appears to have too great(and too sudden) of a lift relative to the yoke's ability to counter that force. Also, with full flaps, the plane simply does not want to descend unless the yoke is pushed all the way forward. The trim alone will not do the trick of keeping the nose down. I am interested to hear from others on this.In order to counter a very sensitive yaw and elevator, I've reduced the sensitivity settings of the joystick, in the joystick calibration options. These are preliminary tests and not conclusive. tony

The new ATR42-500 has a wonderful photorealistic panel with all the buttons and switches and nav equipment to delight the most avid flightsimmer. But lacking any specifications or manuals or instructions or suggested links where to find information about the GPS, EFIS etc., what's a new pilot going to do ? I don't have any idea who manufctures the GPS, or the name of the model pictured. The aircraft is a tad quirky as regards throttle changes, landing with flaps is a challenge but I am intrigued. Any suggestions where I can get information about how to fly this lovely aircraft, which I envision as an Twin Otter on steroids. Thanks.
